The “Pannonische Forschungsstelle” (PFS) / International Center for Wind Music Research at the Institute 12 Oberschützen of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria) is a unique institution for wind music research in Europe. The main focus is on collecting historical material and sheet music archives as well as on expanding the specialist literature and sheet music collections. The collections offer ample opportunity for further research. Together with the International Society for Research and Promotion of Wind Music (IGEB), the research center forms a network and is thus in exchange with wind music researchers all over the world.

The Pannonian Research Center encourages research and scholarly work on wind music of all kinds and invites submissions of master's theses for the PFS Research Award 2023. Nominations are open in the field of wind music research in Europe and especially in the German-speaking countries (community band, military wind music, instrumental topics, composers, repertoire etc.).

Scientific research on wind music in German-speaking countries should be particularly encouraged, but Master's theses in English, French, Spanish and Italian can also be submitted. They must have been written in the period from 01 January 2019 to 01 June 2023.

The award winner will receive a research prize of € 1,000 and will be invited to give a presentation at the next IGEB Virtual Conference. The award-winning paper will also be published as a PDF file on the PFS website, with an abstract in the Yearbook of International Center for Wind Music Research and in The Wind Music Research Quarterly (newsletter) of IGEB.
