J & J Lubrano Music Antiquarians LLC, established in 1977, are internationally recognized dealers in rare printed & manuscript music, rare books on music, autograph letters of composers, & music-related iconography, 15th - 21st centuries.
We pay special attention to the interests of our clientele & have helped to develop some of the most important antiquarian music collections, both institutional & private, in the U.S. & abroad, over the past 46 years. We aim to provide highly accurate & informed descriptions of material offered to best enable our customers to make the wisest decisions regarding their acquisitions.
We operate from private premises in the township of Syosset, on the north shore of Long Island. The area is known for its attractive parks, pleasant villages, & proximity to the Long Island Sound, as well as very good schools, hospitals, & high-level healthcare. Syosset is approximately one hour by train from New York City.
This is a full-time, on-site position, with compensation commensurate with qualifications & experience but in the range of $45,000-$60,000.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create original cataloguing for rare music-related material utilizing an in-house music reference library of approximately 5,000 volumes together with online resources
- Enhance social media presence & work on miscellaneous projects relating to the antiquarian music business
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2 years’ experience creating original cataloguing of rare music-related material
- Comprehensive knowledge of the history, theory, & literature of music
- Familiarity with relevant music reference & research tools, both printed & online
- Ability to follow in-house cataloging practices as regards format, collation, & descriptive bibliography
- Knowledge of music printing history & illustration techniques desirable
- Foreign language facility including bibliographical knowledge of German, French, & Italian
- Proficiency with social media platforms
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to work both independently & collaboratively & to accomplish tasks in a timely manner
- Excellent written communication skills, including careful attention to detail & accuracy
