Harvard University Department of Music, Tenure-Track or Tenured Professor (Full-time) or Professor of the Practice (Part-time)
The Department of Music seeks to appoint a distinguished musician of international reputation, with a professional career in performance and strong scholarly interests. We seek an open and diverse pool of candidates in terms of musical genre and tradition. The ideal candidate will have multiple—even hybrid—areas of expertise. A full-time appointment will either be at the tenure-track level or with tenure, and a part-time appointment is possible as Professor of the Practice. Courses will include undergraduate performance and seminars, graduate seminars, and courses within Harvard’s General Education program (for students with varied backgrounds). Candidates should be sympathetic to the particular demands of teaching performance within a liberal-arts curriculum. An extensive concert and recording background is preferable. While a publication record is also desirable, qualifications are measured by demonstrated expertise and achievement in musical performance, whether in Western classical music, world music, contemporary music, historically informed performance, or other spheres. The chosen candidate will teach and advise at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A full teaching load includes 4 courses each year.
Qualified candidates should submit through the ARIeS portal (http://academicpositions.harvard.edu/postings/6463).
Applications will be considered beginning November 2, 2015.
