Dear Music Notation Project (MNP) members,

Only a small portion of people—estimated between 5% and 15% worldwide—can read Western music notation, mainly because it is quite complex. Learners must first understand how to read notes on staff lines, memorize multiple clefs (each with different note names), and learn various note heads, stems, and rest symbols.

My 3JCN Music Notation system simplifies many of these challenges, making it much easier for beginners to learn, play, and write music.

Here are some key advantages of 3JCN over traditional Western notation:

  • Direct note names: Uses A, B, C, D, E, F, and G directly — no staff lines required.

  • Octaves simplified: The superscript indicates the octave, removing the need for clefs (treble, bass, grand, etc.).

  • Duration made simple: The subscript shows the note’s duration as multiples or fractions of a beat, replacing note heads, stems, and tuplets.

  • Rests made clear: Rests are simply real numbers representing multiples or fractions of silent beats, eliminating all the complex rest symbols.

I invite you to try out 3JCN Score at:

I’d really appreciate it if you could help share 3JCN with the world and provide your feedback to help me continue improving this system.

Best regards,
