It seems it is a twin of Klavarskribo. Or at least a slight modification of it. Klavarskribo is almost 100 years old, so this concept is not new.

But Klavarskribo was actually a modification towards standard notation of the punch-roll (piano roll) from the end of 19-th century.

Actually we could say those were the predecessor of MIDI-piano roll (mid '80s).

I have a Finale template for Trigram from 2007. Paste any music into it then hide legerlines and you have it translated.

Thanks for sharing!  This looks like a great project.  Glad to see you are working on this kind of research. 

It's good to get a message from someone who was involved in the MNMA days and who has designed several of the systems that we document on the MNP website.
