It's been a while since I've posted here, hope you guys will forgive
the slightly off topic posting (it is about making music simpler
though :)
About three years ago a WholeTone Revolution came up on Ebay for
£500.00 (plus shipping from Japan). It is one of the old red ones (not
the newer white one). It's got a Korg N1 sound module on it. It's
basically a modern day janko Keyboard.
So I've got one and ..... got to say it's ace but I've never really
gotten comfy with it (I find that my hands become too cramped when I'm
playing it). I've decided to sell it and try chromatic accordions
(saving up for a midi one).
I've painted the keys so that I knew what was where (I couldn't get
the hang of doing it spatially when they were all the same colour). So
it's looks a bit bizarre, but it's 100% working (I got the adapter
converted to UK A.C current when I received it).
I've added a wee picture to Photo Bucket
http://s988.photobucket.com/albums/af5/theboyblunder/
I would set the reserve price at £200.00 once I got over that I would
let it go.
Apologies if no one interested, wanted to sound out before bunged it
on Ebay (oh yeah, would ship worldwide (I'm in Glasgow, Scotland, UK)
All the best
Mark
According to the specs, it has velocity and aftertouch sensitivity,
which is good, but they don't say whether each of those is per-key
(best) or just one value for the entire keyboard. I assume the velocity
would be per-key, anyway.
It has MIDI out, so you're not limited to the built-in sounds. Are the
duplicated keys sent on distinct MIDI channels, so that you could (for
example) play a tremolo on two keys of the same pitch without having a
note-off from one key terminate the sound of the other?
Doug
No you cant play tremelo on the same key the three rows of keys are
all connected i.e. you play a c on the first row and the third and
fith rows are all depressed, it's all on the same channel.
Hope that answer is of some use to you.
Cheers
Mark
Oh, so it has physically connected keys, just like on the original Janko
pianos. Seems a bit quaint in this century. I'm not sure what
advantage that approach has. Anyway, it's great that someone actually
brought a Janko-like keyboard to market.
You did the right thing by painting the keys! I don't know what that
company was thinking when they decided on all-white keys. "Let's make as
disorienting an interface as possible, and see who buys it"? Maybe they
figured if people can learn their way around a violin fingerboard,
there's no need to patronize them by showing them which key is which...
http://www.chromatic-keyboard.com/english/ says "The Best Seller
Synthesizer in Japan," which seems a bit too good to be true.
The company, in its various manifestations, is briefly discussed, along
with a lot of other historical info and photos of Janko-style keyboards,
