Hi all,
Notes from Thursday's Zoom meeting ~
+++Membership meeting (online)
02/26/26 7:00PM
Participants: Jemmy B., Jim M., Joel P., Oyang T.
Joel disappeared then reappeared.
Rumors of Jeremy overseas.
Chris Cambell, local water law enthusiast, may join along with Heather next Thurs. (3/5) for a walkabout onsite.
(Jem is sort of on the hook to figure out issues related to a possible lake on the property, seems it's Edison Co. jurisdiction so CA state not too helpful?)
To a question about whether we'd want irrigation for planting:
A water system is a really interesting and desirable project (though maybe more for an orchard and not necessarily for reforestation, also some natives don't take summer water well as they are prone to root rot in warm soil).
Would be nice to have some water tanks up in a few places though.
Also possibly a nursery, otherwise where are the trees coming from that are needed all over, not just at Musick?
Unfortunately, NRCS has a proscription against funding for nurseries.
In any case we got a few thousand more conifers for March/April plantings.
And a few thousand Edison understory goodies funded by the most recent grant; includes Elderberry, Hazelnet, Thimbleberries, all kinds of flowering and fruiting types.
5-6k total plantings in the next few months.
We want to start thinning areas where we intend to plant.
And before deciduous trees leaf out and conceal, now while the leaves are down we can find trees that need rescuing and prep for planting.
The upper part of the property is textbook thinned thanks to a Mexican crew from Oregon.
And of course we seem about ready to build some kind of structure.
Big ol' Tent pole platform and maybe sweat lodge too.
Meanwhile Hipcamp is still going, more or less keeping tidy but still camping too close to the creek; it's an ongoing effort to maintain the relationship but so far there's mutual aid to keep the property in shape.
There are probate proceedings for the adjacent parcel ongoing. Probably a good time to make contact w/ HOA.
On the admin side of the house, thinking it would be good to relieve Matthew T of any remaining bookkeeping duties while maybe Heather or maybe Julie takes over.
Since nothing pressing in flight, no rush on final decisions.
Come Oct, and contingent on the existence of a functioning NRCS, another $30k incoming (P.S. more than our current annual operating budget).
