to Musick Creek announcements
The water was a good bit lower than our June gathering last year. You could step across the creek in many places. This was partly due to Father’s Day coming later in June and mostly due to a drier year. There were still many flowers about.
There were more folks (espec. on Sunday) than expected. I think we didn’t send a note to our wider groups of Sweet’s Mill pals telling them the event was intended only for the planning discussion group with social distancing. Thinking that this email list was enough outreach (?), we also didn’t bother with the usual signals like logs/signs blocking confusing wrong turns.
It was perfect weather, good people, some music, some meeting, inventorying flowers, time alone, good food, minor misfortune that was potentially entertaining involving a helicopter rescue, and a couple important decisions made.
Yeah, I know the important decisions part of that list didn’t even register with you! That one about the helicopter rescue will occupy your mind until I explain. One person who had never been to Musick before took a wrong turn upon departure. They drove into a remote section of the national forest and got stuck in mud. They somehow alerted the sheriff, got taken (sans car) by helicopter to town, and made whatever arrangements to retrieve the car.
Maybe the sheriffs didn’t have anything better to do; I hope they just found it entertaining. Haven’t heard the whole story myself. Thus, the part I tell is now 3rd hand and short on detail. Some recipients of this email know more than me—but no need to share if you want to stay private.
When we were sitting eating supper and heard the helicopter, we joked that it was cops looking for the hash-eaters. Little did we know, it was in fact cops looking for one of us! (The hash ref was to something off-hand the sheriff had actually said to one of our members a few weeks ago.)
More reports from the annual meeting and gathering soon.
