DJ Rashad Found Dead At Age 35
DJ Godfather was the first to announce Rashad’s death on Twitter. Godfather was scheduled to perform in Detroit later on that night along with Rashad and DJ Spinn.
Police have not released an official cause of death yet but preliminary reports suggest that Rashad died from a drug overdose, reports the BBC.
Chance The Rapper, who is often seen collaborating on stage with Justin Bieber, also spoke out on Twitter saying: “music lost a legend today.”
Hardest hit by the loss will be the Chicago dance community. Rashad was the number one authority for “footwork”, a frenzied and hypnotic style of dance music that’s extremely popular in Chi-Town!
This is the second hip-hop/DJ death in as many months for the city. Chicago is still coming to terms with the loss of rapper Frankie Knuckles who passed away on March 31st.
