e-Commerce (electronic commerce or online shopping) means the sale of goods, services and information within computer networks, including the Internet.

e-Commerce is not limited only to Internet. In the context of inter-company trade, there are networks that are used long time ago. Electronic transactions also carried on mobile phone networks. We talk about m-commerce (mobile commerce) in this case.

In a context of strong environmental constraints, the development of distance selling tends to transform the problems of logistics.

History

The advent of the Internet has initially induces a différent business model.

The European Parliament and the European Council adopted on 8 June 2000, a European Directive on electronic commerce (Directive 2000/31/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on certain legal aspects of information society, including the electronic commerce, in the Internal Market).

The arrival of mobile telephony has introduced a new rupture with the quantitative pricing data.
