                                Shakespeare and Rock 'n' Roll collide in the Bay 
                                Area premiere of the jukebox musical, Return to the 
                                Forbidden Planet.  
                                    Based 
                                on Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and the 1950's 
                                sci fi film "Forbidden Planet", this musical 
                                features classic rock and roll hits from the 
                                1950s and 1960s to tell the story of Captain 
                                Tempest and his crew, who are drawn to the 
                                planet D'Illyria during a routine 
                                flight. 
 
 They 
                                meet mad scientist Dr. Prospero and his daughter 
                                Miranda, who has never seen a human being other 
                                than her father. The ship's cook falls in love 
                                with Miranda, Miranda falls in love with the 
                                captain, a robot speaks of a mysterious 
                                mind-altering formula and thus is laid the 
                                groundwork for romance and spurned advances.   The 
                                onstage four-piece band rocks out more than 25 
                                of the best rock and roll numbers accompanied by 
                                the cast and crew, including Gary Puckett's 
                                "Young Girl", the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations", 
                                Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls of Fire and The 
                                Byrds' "Mr. Spaceman."     The 
                                set is the bridge of the starship, and the use 
                                of video projections in the new 
                                20,000-square-foot multi-use Dan Caldwell 
                                Theatre complete this Sci Fi experience.
