Hi,
That Magic Pudding of punishment, the Northern Territory government, is once again legislating to reinforce their election winning tough on crime image.
As I’ve often said, if the medicine don’t work, increase the dosage.

Took my body to the doctor,
he said man you won’t live through the night.
Took my body back to mama,
She said Jesus gonna make it alright
In the NT, if you’re found guilty of murder, you receive a mandatory life sentence with a minimum 20 year non-parole period.
The new legislation will increase the non-parole period to 25 years in the case of domestic violence related murder.
Picture it:
In a misogynistic jealousy rage, someone is about to kill their partner. As the knife is raised and about to be plunged into the victim, the scene freezes. “What happened just then?” the perpetrator is asked. “I suddenly remembered that should I be found guilty of murder, under the new legislation I would have to serve an additional five year non-parole period.”
A likely story.
