A guru focuses on creating not only a good shishya but a joyful lovely human being. .This was obvious at Mulam, a National Seminar and Dance Festival held at Mysore on 30th and 31 July. Each one of them coming out with their best. It was pleasant to watch the Guru Shishya duo, dancing together sharing a beautiful bond , I am sure the pictures will speak for themselves. The only festival where the shishy gets to share the stage with the Guru in a duet. Organizing this event has given meet so much satisfaction, I feel inspired and energized to do more .

Sri Ravikiran left the audience spellbound after an enchanting, enthralling and exhilarating evening of music on the Chitravina. Shri Ravi is a genius in the true sense, possessing the rare ability to leave the rasika with a feeling of completeness, and his spectacular concert at Unnati yesterday delivered just that. He commenced the evening with a beautiful rendition of the Natakurunji Pada varanam "Chalamela". The artist's brilliance shone from the outset, as he delved effortlessly into the subtle nuances of the ragam. Be it Shyama Shastri's grand masterpiece "Marivere Gati" in anandabhairavi, or Oothukadu Venkatakavi's magnificent composition in Karaharapriya, Shri Ravi brought out the essence of both the songs and ragams in a delightful fashion. His kalpanaswara patterns in Anandabhairavi, Latangi and Karaharapiya were awe-inspiring and highlighted his innate creativity. The evening concluded with a charming thillana in Reetigoulai composed by himself.
The percussion support was none other than the legendary Shrimushnam Shri Raja Rao on the mridangam. A wonderful singer himself, Shri Raja Rao's incredible knowledge of the compositions elevated the concert to another level. Smt Akkarrai Subbulakshmi provided mellifluous support on the violin and the senstivity she exhibited was commendable. Able support was also provided by Shri SN Narayanamurthy on the ghatam and Shri Ravi's student Vishal Sapooram on the chitravina. Despite multiple power cuts pin drop silence was maintained by the audience, who remained transfixed throughout.

Yet another gem from the illustrious Sikkil family, Sri. Sikkil Gurucharan is undoubtedly an undisputed musician par excellence. He is one of the torch bearers of carnatic music from this generation. Whether it is the rich patantharam or his style of presentation, all bear the mark of deep classicism. The detailed sketch of the Kedaragaula Alapana kept the audience swaying to the combination of melodious phrases clubbed with brisk brikas. The kriti Abhayambikaya is rarely featured in concerts and it was a delight to hear this Dikshithar kriti. After a brisk rendering of Kamalacharane a composition of GNB in the raga Amritha Behag Gurucharan painted the Raga Sahana in colourful hues bringing out the melody of this beautiful Raga. The masterpiece Giripai was presented in all its grandeur. The RTP in Raga Desh came as a request from the audience on account of being Independence Day. Sikkil Gurucharan brought out an extempore RTP par excellence.
The violinist for the day Sri Sanjeev proved himself a worthy disciple of Smt. Kanyakumari and played exceedingly well in his parts. Sri Arjun Kumar embellished the entire concert with his energetic playing and supported the artists with great anticipation. Guru Prasanna on the Kanjira ably supported and made his presence felt with some crisp following.

Smt. Nithyasree is one amazing musician who through her vast repertoire and chaste music that runs in her blood, is able to give us a concert that can only be described in one word-Sensational! There is no one like her. Smt. Nitya's crystal clear diction and flamboyant and full throttle style of singing leaves nothing more to explore. Yesterday she was in her elements and like a river in spate, which could not be contained by any dam. The beneficiaries were of course the audience, who had gathered in large numbers. Smt. Vishaka Hari just stole the show and the hearts of all present with her electrifying presence, flawless eloquence and unabated flow of chaste carnatic music. She has the gift of the gab and is able to kindle the bhakti bhava in everyone. At times she is like a child, bubbling with energy and dramatising the entire story for us to get a vivid picture of what would have happened and then follows it up with the essence of the underlying message that the Lord gives through the happenings--thus bringing out all the nuances of the live of the great Bhaktha Narayana Theerthar, beautifully eliciting them with songs that were composed on all those occasions. Yesterday’s topic was 'Sree Krishna Bhaktha Vaibhavam' and the Bhaktha whose story was taken up was Narayana Theerthar. Smt. Vishaka Hari was accompanied on the violin by Smt. Charulatha Ramanujam, who played very well and gave good support. Sri. Arjun Ganesh on the mridangam and Smt. Sukanya Ramgopal on the Ghatam gave excellent percussion support, lifting the Harikathai throughout.

When Sri. OS Arun performs at the Unnati Centre, the atmosphere is rife with expectation of a divine experience. The audience come there not just to hear music, but to participate in the journey that Sri. OS Arun so beautifully takes them always. What one got in yesterday's concert was an experience difficult to describe in words. Music that starts as an experience for the artiste and becomes an experiential experience for the rasika, when sounds become waves and transport one to a divine realm-in complete oneness with the divine -- This is how yesterday's concert can be described.
Sri. Arun's "Hold No Bars",
full throttle singing, exploring the lower and higher octaves of the ragas with
absolute ease in his rich and unique voice, is pure pleasure for the listener.
In his own words, he was not there to prove his mettle as a musician, he was
just there to pass on his experience with the ragas and help the audience to
experience the raga and what it was trying to convey along with the beautiful
lyrics. It was a pleasure watching the entire hall come to life and take active
part. Among all the beautiful pieces that were sung to perfection, we had an
outstanding and different exposition of the raga Vasantha. The amazing team of
Sri. Raghavendra Rao on the violin, Poongulam Sri. Subramaniam on the
mridangam, Sri. Sumit Naik on the tabla, Sri. Krishnan on the harmonium

Sri Sandeep Narayan performs with a sense of abandon and energy that is infectious. His flamboyant and energetic style of singing livens the ambience. Listening to this young talented musician, one can easily notice the extent to which he idolises his Guru Sri Sanjay Subramaniam. The great violin maestro late Lalgudi Sri Jayaraman left behind two of his very own gems for the propagation of music - Lalgudi Sri GJR Krishnan and Lalgudi Smt Vijayalakshmi. They are two complete musicians whose music is so seeped in tradition and melody that it always touches the core of each Rasika in such a special manner literally playing on their heart strings. The smooth bowing style, absolute ease and perfect understanding of both artistes was as if it was not two individuals but one person and one thought flow. Virtuosity and versatility combined with utmost humility is what one gets from the Lalgudi duo - a class apart truly! Gliding from one raga to another, they gifted the audience with a delightful bouquet of chased Carnatic music. The second day of Utsav 2016 came alive this evening with the captivating performance by Priya Sisters. Dressed in beautiful yellow and royal blue kanjeevarams, they were all set to woo the audience after taking centre stage. As always, they sang with total involvement and dedication.
