In the 16th century, Sikandar Lodhi seized power in Delhi and asserted his beliefs on the population. To counter his tyranny and mass conversions, legendary devotee of Krishna, Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya the founder of ‘pushtimarg’ and his son, Gosain Vitthalnath embarked on the world’s first successful brand repositioning exercise... They created the concept of Yugal Sarkar (the divine couple and true lords of the world), and sang legends of Radha and Krishna         to successfully counter Mughal Sarkar. They chose 8 extremely talented poets to compose and      sing Krishna Bhajans and popularize them. They were called AshtChhap

Inner Courtyard presents the works of these AshtChhap poets in a unique program,            INSPIRED POEMS OF ASHTCHHAP, curated and conducted by renowned litterateur                 Dr Ramji Tiwari.   The poems/bhajans will be presented by a fantastic array of India’s popular vocal artistes Sanjeev and Neha Chimmalgi, Hemang Mehta and Suruchi Mohta.

Inner Courtyard, in association with Y. B. Chavan Pratishthan endeavors to present unique programs to make Indian performing arts and literature more accessible and enjoyable to a contemporary audience.   This, we believe will help preserve and nurture our great heritage and culture.

While Abhinavagupta came from the particular tradition of Shaivism that flourished in Kashmir even since his ancestors were brought from Central India and given agraharas to establish a line of scholarship and spiritual practice, he was honoured and respected even in his life time as virtually the greatest acharya of Saiva darsana by the whole country.
