Disable automatic meaning?

Hello

We are working with a new OMR system which produces XML scores with music21. The system is able to recognize beams from the input image, and the output score should reproduce this beaming without any adjustment.

It seems that music21 automatically produce beams in makeNotation(). The only way we found to prevent that (when a voice is completely beam-free ) is to artificially create a pseudo-beam in a stream for the first note. This is rather ugly :-( and there is probably an option somewhere to disable auto-beaming. Would someone tell us where it is hidden? many thanks !
