Sasha,

Minion is a client for people who run a linux server at home. By running special software (MPD) on the Linux server, you can control the server with Minion.

It's extremely cool. The first steps would be to get Linux up and running on a machine on your network, then get MPD installed and working. Finally try to access MPD with the Minion client.

Sasha, as you have linux, what the name of your distribution. Knowing this, it will help us to give you the right command to install MPD.
Then, once MPD is properly setup, you'll be able to install and use Minion properly.

Cheers

Well, so if it's an ubuntu, to install MPD simply do the following

1 - open a terminal
2 - type : sudo apt-get install mpd

Then, you'll need to edit /etc/mpd.conf and set : music_directory to the place were your music library is stored.
Then, restart the mpd service : sudo /etc/init.d/mpd restart

Well, are you sure of that ? What the precise error message you had ?
You can try as well the following command to check the list of available packages : apt-cache search mpd
This will return a list of packages that matches "mpd". In that list you should see "mpd - Music Player Daemon"
