Sharing playlists

Hello,

I'm wondering how to have playlists created in MPM also be usable in
Winamp on my local machine.

save_absolute_paths_in_playlists is set to "yes."

looking at the .m3u file saved by MPM, i see that the file paths are
\shared\music\songname.mp3.

the files saved by winamp are \\SERVER\shared\music\songname.mp3.

any suggestions on how to make these work together?

If you are trying to use the playlists from a remote machine, one thing you can try is to set your music_directory option to point to \\SERVER\shared\music.  I would think this would result in the full network path being saved to the playlists.  It would probably also make the database updates slower, since all of your music will route through the file sharing service instead of being used as local files.  This is just a guess...

Thanks for the suggestion, though I'm not sure it'll work with my
setup.

Winamp accesses all the music files stored on the Ubuntu server. MPD
is of course on the server. I'm networked using Samba.

So changing the music_folder on the server to \\SERVER\shared\music
would just break MPD I think, because it can't read that path, right?

I dunno. Maybe it just won't work at all with Windows networking and
the music files on the server.

I am pretty sure that mpd can use samba shares, it doesn't hurt to try.  One thing that could still be a problem is that windows uses a backslash instead of a forward slash for directories, but I have seen a lot of windows programs automatically convert this for network paths.

The other option is to write a script to make copies of all m3u files with the paths converted for a remote windows machine.  I am sure this could be done quickly with a sed/awk command or a batch file to run it from the windows side.
