Sorry for posting off topic, but my impression was that somebody from the list could perhaps help me.

I'm looking for an ontology which could be described as an "equivalent" to the Music Ontology in the field of arts, esp. visual arts. I searched Google but came up with nothing useful.

So any hints are welcome.
Also, where do you all start searching if you look for any 'special interest' ontology?

Background is that I built my own knowledge base on music, art, science and politics during the past 10 years, and I'd like make id Open Data compatible, with conversion to RDF (in shared terms) as a first step.

TIA and best regards,
Christoph

Hi

It’s not an ontology, but the standards Arts vocabulary is  http://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/aat/index.html

This might be a starting point.

Hi Christoph,

you may also have a look at

- Linked Open Vocabularies (LOV) :
http://lov.okfn.org/dataset/lov/index.html

which is a rather good overview of existing Semantic Web ontologies.

Cheers,

Bo

Hi Chris

In addition to this, you may want to have a look at CIDOC-CRM: it's mainly concerned with the cultural heritage sector but it's about anything which could be in a museum or gallery.  I do a lot of the modelling against this ontology and have to model things like paintings and other digital assets.

Cheers
Josh
