Hornsby Heights Public School is a public primary school in Sydney’s North. Our school band program operates as a shared program between the P&C and school. We welcome students in years 3 to 6 to our 3 bands; Training, Concert (intermediate) and Stage Band. We have enjoyed years of success both in competitions and Eisteddfods and in encouraging a love of band and performance within our students. Most of our students continue music into their High School years.
We seek an enthusiastic, inspiring and caring musician who enjoys rehearsing, conducting and working with ensembles to develop a love of music. There is also the possibility of daytime instrumental tutoring of band members at school (Subject to the availability of rooms and the tuition needs of the program).
Commencing in Term 1 2018, we have a vacancy for a conductor for our Training band.
Under the guidance of Mr Mark Strykowsi, Band Program Director, the successful applicant will be responsible for:
- leading weekly rehearsals for Training band.
- developing students’ ensemble skills
- choice of repertoire
- conducting the band during performances, assisting with our annual Training Band recruitment process, attending twice yearly after-school band workshops and our a 2 day Band Camp in Term 2.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Music qualifications in education, performance or similar
- Experience teaching instrumental music to children
- Demonstrated ability to engage, motivate and encourage students in their musical learning
- Ability to conduct bands of beginning students
- Communication and liaison skills
- Availability for rehearsals from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm weekly on Tuesday
