MUSIC CITY FOR CHANGE
Four years ago, there were several activities sponsored by a group known as Music Row Democrats. Now in the current hotly charged season, some of the people previously involved in that organization have created a new organization called Music City for Change and are presenting a series of events under the banner of Obamarama.

They are presenting three events beginning Wednesday and continuing through Friday with several top Nashville singers and songwriters participating.

“These are music events first, so we do want people to know that,” said Ed Pettersen, one the event organizers. “We’re hoping to take over for Music Row Democrats, at least during this season and hopefully continue through other election cycles. We understand that this seems to be one of those states that’s not in play, but we still want to encourage people who are Obama supporters to come out and participate, and also encourage everyone to vote.”

Congressman Jim Cooper will speak at the Oct. 1 show at 12th and Porter (8 p.m., 1114 12th Ave. N., 254-7250, $8) and Oct. 2 concerts (7:30 p.m., 1201 Villa Place, 301-8539, $8), and the Bluebird Café (9:30 p.m., 4104 Hillsboro Road, 383-1461, $20) is the site of the third concert. The Oct. 3 finale will feature two shows at The Basement (7 and 9 p.m., 1604 Eighth Ave. S., 245-8006, $8).

Gary Burr, Victoria Shaw, Billy Kirsch, Jim Photoglo, Rissi Palmer, Angela Kaset and Georgia Middleman are headliners for the Oct. 1 leadoff show. The duo of Doyle and Debbie appear following the Vice Presidential Debate Viewing Party Oct. 2. J.D. Souther, Radney Foster, Gary Nicholson and Beth Nielsen Chapman will be at the Bluebird concert. Marcus Hummon, Mary Gauthier, and Don Henry appear on the first Basement program, with TeaM iLLuMiNaTi, Nick Jaina and Rae Hering slated for the second show.

“These shows are certainly open to McCain supporters as well,” Pettersen said. “I’ve gotten some interesting responses from people on that side when I sent out the e-mails, including comments from some people I didn’t know were Republicans. My feeling is that I totally respect your views, and we’d welcome you at this event. We’re certainly on the other side, and want to see Senator Obama win, but it’s about encouraging participation and response.”

Best,
Karen

Hi All,

I’ve manually filed the individual listings online at metromix but I have no idea if that’s the rage, the tennesean or both. Left messages for the Tennessean calendar person and Tennessean music events person, but who knows if they will call me back. Did the email blast. I’m not sure what else I can do to make sure the 10/1-3 events are in the Tennessean calendar. Karen, if you do get Peter Cooper on the line and can find out a way to confirm that we’re in the calendar I’d appreciate it.
