Happy New Year, Music City for Change members--

   1] Several of our members and other Obama volunteers are now working hard to defeat the english-only ballot coming up. Please check out
http://shifts.nashvilleforallofus.org/ -- everything you need to know is there. We  need as many volunteers as possible. Spread the word, please! This is our next step for progressive movement in Nashville.

   2] Please see the enclosed note below from Dave Robinson, and if you want to help his research reply to him directly.

  thanks,

Susan

Subject: FW: Postgraduate Research: Country Music and Politics

Please Help:-
I understand the Music City for Change google group is now inactive, but I’d really like to get some feedback from group members and Obamarama participants for my postgraduate research topic.  If you would be good enough to forward on the attached, I’d be very grateful.

Subject: Postgraduate Research: Country Music and Politics

A Nation of Children: Through War and Recession to the Promised Land?
(An examination of patriotism and protest in country and Americana music during the George W. Bush presidency)

Above is the working title for my postgraduate thesis, which I’m undertaking at Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK. Although I visited Nashville (and Austin) in October, unfortunately I wasn’t in Nashville at the time of either Obamarama 1 or 2.

I attach a copy of my outline research proposal and would be very grateful for any input that you can provide me.  In particular:-

           How Music City for Change got started (and what happened to Music Row Democrats?);
           Any observations Democrats in Nashville may have about the music business during the George W Bush presidency;
           To what extent is it true that Music Row’s is predominantly Republican in affiliation, and is this changing?;
           What difference did Music City for Change make, and how much support was garnered amongst the Nashville music community?
           Anything else?

Please feel free to forward this email to other group members for their comments, and, if possible, to those musicians who performed at Obamarama.

My thanks and kind regards,

Dave Robinson
