Below is a letter from Matthew Stafford, SEIU
Dear friends,
Thanks so much for all your interest in what we're working on for our upcoming, pre-Presidential Debate action we've scheduled for Monday, October 6th at Legislative Plaza. Our Leadership Committee as well as our Messaging Team and Logistics Team have been meeting and have some recommendations for our rally.
The Leadership Team voted that our rally would be focused on health care for all. Though we realize that many groups around the table might not be focused on working on health care as an issue, it is an issue that is vitally important to all of us.
If health care is not your main issue, we encourage you to connect the dots between your issue and health care. For instance, if you are working to end the war in Iraq, you can emphasize the connection between military spending and domestic spending. In your signage and leaflets, you might want to talk about how much money the war is draining from the domestic economy and how this money could be redirected towards providing health care for all. Since all of our issues are interconnected, it is possible to provide links to health care from all of them. We encourage you to participate in this rally because we are anticipating a large media turnout. We want to show the world that there is a strong progressive presence in Tennessee.
I hope you will be able to attend our next big meeting this Thursday, August 28th from 11:30 – 1pm at SEIU Local 205. Like the last meeting, there will be water and coffee available, but people may wish to bring their own lunch.
This week, we are going to unveil our message and talk about our committees and what each committee will be responsible for doing in order to make our big rally successful. And we need for each of you to commit to helping out on one of these committees.
Currently, we have had members of the following groups and organizations around the table. Please look at the list and think about any other groups that might be interested in being involved and feel free to invite them to our meeting this Thursday:
GROUPS
AARP
Center for Community Change
Homeless Power Project
Jobs with Justice
SEIU
Steelworkers
TN AFL-CIO
Tennessee Health Care Campaign
Tennesseans for Fair Taxation
The Nashville Movement
Tennessee Alliance for Progress

Also, please RSVP your attendance to Matthew Stafford at msta...@seiu205.org so that we can make sure we have plenty of seating available.

Sincerely,
Matthew Stafford
