I see that Drupal is required to run the Dashboard but does Drupal
need to be our CMS for our main web site? Is the Dashboard its own
mini web site?

Other then Drupal is there anything else I need to load? Drupal plug-
ins and things I need to look-out for?

Thank you;
Raymond

Drupal doesn't have to run your main site; this dashboard can run independently of the rest of your site. However, it's built on Drupal 5, which is a few years old and no longer supported. If there are any plans to do a D7 port, I'm glad to pitch in!

We are currently in the planning process for re-envisioning the Dashboard. This will entail more than just an upgrade to Drupal 7. After living with the software for 4 years now we have identified many opportunities for enhancement. More to come.

Are you considering the rewrite as its own distribution? Seems like it would be a good fit and there are a lot more opportunities to leverage contrib nowadays.

Do you have an ETA for this upgrade? Should I not waist time
installing this? My web host uses Fantastico with Drupal v7 which is
how I was planning on installing the Drupal program I don't have root
access which is what I think I would need to install Drupal. How
difficult is a Drupal install?

I hesitate to use the word upgrade, because we are planning a more generalized framework for creating tools like the Dashboard. Hence, there won't be a release that is a flat upgrade of the existing software. It certainly would not be a waste of time to use the current software.

Do you know if Drupal requires root access to install?

That's really a question for your hosting provider. You can install Drupal without root access if they are configured to allow you to do so.

Thank you for answering my questions, you have been a big help!

One last question: Is there some type of email notification that goes
out to inform users of new release and software?

Thank you;
Raymond

I can install v7 but I don't know how backward compatible the host is.

Thanks again.

It shouldn't; as long as you have SSH or FTP access, and MySQL access you can install it. You'll need to run this install profile manually, not through Fantastico. I recommend the Drupal forums for questions about the platform itself, as the focus of this group is on the Dashboard install profile.

Hi Raymond,

You can get earlier releases of Drupal here: http://drupal.org/node/3060/release?api_version%5B%5D=78

I've run it on both Dreamhost and LaughingSquid without trouble.

Which version of Drupal 5 works best? V5.23 or should I download an
earlier version?
