Hi Charlie et al,

I am really begining to make headway now. Images are now sorted, many
thanks. I know I spoke of board about historical data but I'd like
some further discussion around it.

I like how IMA has created the 2007 and 2008 badges and I am wondering
how exactly you handle these? I'm creating a series of topics and
departments. As I add historical data for the prototype I am using
various series such as FY 2008-2009 Admissions to mark them as legacy
but I don't think this is how you are doing it. I see in the url
(http://dashboard.imamuseum.org/year/2008) that it appears you have
created a folder but I am probably wrong.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi,

I'd chime in that my problem is slightly different. I may not want
"historic" data separated out, but would like to represent data from
multiple institutions. I admit not having poked around behind the
scenes still - but something I'm thinking about. I'd also be
interested to hear how you handled your historic data and whether a
similar approach would work for creating multiple "sub-
dashboards." You might also imagine individual departments within
a really large institution wanting to do something similar for just
their areas.

All the dashboards groupings are driving from a single
taxonomy/category. Our site specifically has 5 top-level terms right
now: Highlights, Departments, Topics, 2007 & 2008. We tag nodes with
Highlights to control what's on the front page. 2007/8 controls the
yearly views. The last two are how we control what is seen from the
drop-down tabs. Departments and Topics have children terms that we
assign to nodes as well. For example, Finance is simply a term that
has Department as a parent. We then create CCK views to drive all the
pages you see. Most of these are views are there for you when you
install the software. Keep in mind that many nodes have several terms
assigned. (e.g. "Total Size of the IMA's Endowment" has 3 terms:
Highlights, Departments->Finance and Topics->Financial).

I think this could be accomplished in the same way as we do
departments. See my e-mail I just sent for the nitty gritty. We
chose to highlight a set of statistics for our front page, but you
could very well have a front page that lists the institutions you are
collecting stats for. Each institution could then have its own set of
highlights and departments. Your taxonomy would just be one level
deeper than our dashboard.

That would be possible by specifying a URL of "year" for the view, and then you have to add an option to the "Argument" section.  It should be a taxonomy term from the Dashboard category.  This would then give you "year/2007", "year/2008", etc.

Ok here is a potentially humbling question...

I was under the assumption that the year/2008  url (so in my case http://dashboard.glenbow.org/year/2008 - still private right now ) would be dynamically generated like topics or departments are. Is this not the case? And I have to manually add this?

Cheers,

Chris

I'll attempt to outline the setting for our 2008 view.

http://dashboard.imamuseum.org/year/2008

Basic Information
    Name: dashboard_2008
Description: A dashboard of 2008 specific dashboard entries

Page

    Provide Page View: checked

    URL: year/2008

View Type: "Panels: Teasers, 2 columns"

    Nodes per Page: 6

    Header: "The following is a......"

Filters

Taxonomy Terms for Dashboard: Is All Of -> 2008

    Node Published: Equals -> Yes

Dashboard Next Update: Is Equal To -> 0

Sort Criteria

Node Updated Time: Descending -> Normal

If you are seeing a 404, I would suggest making sure your URL is correct.  Also check the views permission for "access all views".

Dashboard.imamuseum.org is running the Drupal 5 version that can be found on the Google Code project site. It simply has more content and customizations to show more recent years. The year listings are created through Drupal Views that are very similar to the taxonomy Views that come installed with the software.

Charlie,

The dashboard I downloaded is V1.0, Copyright @ 2007. It doesn't have 5 top-level terms but 3 terms, no 2007 and 2008.
I found your web site version is 2010, so could you share your new version with us?
Thanks!
