شهر رمضان أوله رحمة وأوسطه مغفرة وآخـــره عـــتق من النــــار

The first (ten days) of the month of Ramadan is mercy, the second (ten days) is forgiveness and the last (ten days) is salvation from the Fire. (Bayhaqi)

To make it easy for us, Prophet (ﷺ) made seclusion easier: because we are weak servants he dropped it to ten days, the `itikaaf in Ramadan, whereas before in Ghari Hira he did seclusion for forty days. So do `itikaaf in Ramadan, not forty days seclusion, because Prophet (ﷺ) knows we are weak. You can observe the last ten days in your home: after work read Holy Qur’an, Dalaa’il al-Khayraat, istighfaar, your awraad or Qasidah Burdah, or Salat al-Mudariyya and anything you want. `Itikaaf is in the last ten days of Ramadan, the days that are security from Hellfire. Those who are coming here, it is considered seclusion for them.

`Akafa is to do something constantly, non-stop. So for that ten days the intention of `itikāf is “I decide to turn towards my Lord in these ten days and be away from any disturbance or any connection with other than this Divine Presence.” So the Sahaba used to stay in the mosque, but if there was something important to attend to, they woild go to their houses and do what was needed. In other words, it is not full-time seclusion.

`Itikāf in the time of the Prophet (ﷺ) was in the last 10 days. The most important aspect of` itikāf  is that there are no marital relations between husband and wife. They can eat anything in `itikāf, that is not restricted, whereas in khalwah you eat only one thing – lentils. The person in `itikāf must busy himself or herself in these last 10 days in excessive worship, day and night. They must be very knowing in ways to protect themselves from all negative whispering of Shaytaan in the ears. Therefore they used to go to the mosque as there is no other place to do that in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ). People today like to do `itikāf, and can do it in their home even, where the wife and husband stay in separate rooms: that is also considered `itikāf.

The Night of Power

Many hadiths indicating Lailatu 'l-Qadr falls on one of the odd nights in the last ten days. Following our beloved Prophet's example (s), many observe I'tikaf in the last 10 days. Those who are unable to make i'tikaf, try to observe the odd nights by making extra worship.

May Allah grant you to witness the Night of Power, and grant you and your loved ones the rewards of a thousand months.

Hazrat A`isha reported: I said, "O Prophet of Allah, I see that you know which night is the Lailatu 'l-Qadr. What should I say during it?" The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Say: O Allah, you are pardoning and generous. You love to forgive, so forgive me." (al-Tirmidhī, sahih)

Hazrat A`isha (ra) reported: The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would seek seclusion (al-i'tikāf ) in the mosque during the last ten nights of Ramadan and he would say, "Seek the Night of Power during the last ten nights of Ramadan." (Bukhari)

In another narration, the Prophet said, "Seek the Night of Power in the odd nights among the last ten nights of Ramadan." (Bukhari)

The Greatness of the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr)Dr. Nour Kabbani

What's important? It's not that your stock goes up 1 dollar, or it goes down 2 dollars, and then you do this and that, it doesn't matter.

One of the important commerce is Laylat al-Qadr. And I recited a hadith from Awliyaullah, and what Awliyaullah said was true. As taught by our teachers, that Awliyaullah, they can see the light of a hadith and that is enough to show the validity of the hadith. If Awliyaullah hear or read or see a hadith and they see the light emanating from the hadith, our teacher says that it means that the hadith is authentic, even though people say that it is da`if (weak), or a false hadith, but as long as Awliyaullah have seen the light from then it is a valid hadith.

And Awliyaullah have said that the Messenger of Allah (p) said, "Whoever recites innā anzalnāhu fī lailatil-qadr, Allah (swt) will give thawaab, the reward of fasting Ramadan and qiyam, praying Laylat al-Qadr." One of the prayers recommended by Awliyaullah is to pray at least two rak`ats on Laylat al-Qadr, which of course (the time) is hidden, therefore we perform nafila prayers (sunnah prayers) throughout the month of Ramadan, but two rak`ats with Surat al-Qadr and three time Surat al-Ikhlas. and this is one of the hidden secrets given by Awliyaullah to Ummatul-Habib, so that they are happy, because so many people do not know when Laylat al-Qadr will occur.

They said, “Read Surat al-Qadr, read innā anzalnāhu fī lailatil-qadr from beginning to end, which consists of 30 words, equivalent to the number of days in the month of Ramadan, and salāmun hiya, hiya here means peace, and that is the word for peace. The 27th word in Surat al-Qadr [is 'peace']
