I don't want to update to the pro version of smart defrag and I don't want to have the smart defrag update message nagging me to update it each time windows starts. I am content with the defrag contained in ASCU. So, how do I disable this update message?
May I know why you don't want to update Smart Defrag to the latest version to enjoy better features, please? If you don't want to get the update message, you can click the button "Remind me later" at the left bottom of the update message screen.
Well it's like this... my C: drive is a SSD and as far as I know ASCU takes care of the trim and there is no need for more defrag functions there. Then I have a 1.5TB storage drive (D:) that doesn't get fragmented enough to justify any defragmentation software at all, or at least the ASCU defrag takes care of this well enough for my needs. On another note I think it is far to expensive for MY needs. And as a small parenthesis I have (when I needed it several years ago) found a freeware that was totally awesome at defragging, did it so completely and at such speed it totally blew the competition out of the drives. I won't name it here, but I could give it to you in a personal message if you'd like.
Yeah, I want to know this as well. It seems like the app is updated, what seems like, twice a week. And then we are harassed into updating the app. I paid for all of these apps, but I am still harassed constently!
Smart Defrag can trim your SSD to improve your disk performance. Althought Advanced SystemCare can care your disk, Smart Defrag can provide more comprehensive optimization of all your disks. That is, Smart Defrag can improve the disk more professionally. Please send me a PM about name of the program you got and the better features you valued.
That's nice, Cicely, but how do I keep it from running at all? It's not on the startup list where every single other company puts their update checkers. How do I stop Smart Defrag from running anything on startup? At what point did IObit decide that I shouldn't be allowed to keep it from running anything unless I wanted to? What else is it doing that I'm not allowed to have any control over?
Hi! I seen an old post here and its look like that there is no option to disable the auto-update . I am looking for a chance if we can disable the update through the firewall settings. but i think this is how their system works.
May I know why you don't want to update Smart Defrag to the latest version, please? It won't pop up after you update. If you are a Smart Defrag Pro user, it is recommended to enable Auto Update in Settings.
found a way that works --right click the shortcut (in this case driver booster because i don't have smart defrag installed) open file location find AutoUpdate.exe. use the program IObit Unlocker (it's free) and rename the file to something like AutoUpdate.exe.bak so it will never run. but you can still use the check for updates manually to update all iobit programs
I'd never boot up Windows 11 if Adobe products worked on Linux. I get 500Mb download speed in Linux (the fastest speed my connection is capable of) and in Win 11 I get 100Mb despite inhaling every update and updating the WiFi driver. Even tried TCPOptimiser. No dice. I may have to get an M1 Mac just for Adobe stuff :/
I guess that Windows Built in defragmenter will conflict with Smart Defrag, and perhaps what Smart Defrag have achieved in a week will be undo when Windows Defragmenter is exectuded by the weekly scheduled task.
To turn off the built-in Windows defragmenter, go to the Start menu and type "defrag" into the search box, and open Disk Defragmenter. Inside Disk Dragmenter, click on "Configure Schedule" and uncheck "Run on a Schedule."
As the Windows built-in defrag run regurlarly, Smart Defrag may not defrag automatically when the fragmentation rate didn't reach the condition. Thus, it seems that Smart Defrag doesn't run properly. However, there is no conflict and nothing wrong.
I guess that Windows defrag works with a totally different approach than SmartDefrag, hence when Windows built in defragmenter weekly defrag is scheduled, ALL what was achieved with SmartDefrag will be undone and so Windows defrag and SmartDefrag will contnue to fight against each other on a weekly basis:
The above statement is the escence of this thread, windows built in defrag has a different approach than iobit's smart defrag and so even that windows defrag may show that the HDD or EHDD are fragmented, acording to iobit's smart defrag THEY ARE NO!
The difference of the results of Windows Disk Defragmenter and Smart Defrag is caused by different algorithms. Due to the different algorithms, the optimization by Windows Disk Defragmenter and Smart Defrag will be different. So they may undo each other changes.
Of course, it is your decision whether you disable Windows Defragmenter. Different programs may undo other's changes because of different algorithms. Generally, it is not recommended to install more than one software with the same feature.
As I can see from the settings registry defrag is a function of smart defrag indeed but it's now a pro function, where (I guess because it was set initially on an old version) this used to be a free function.
When I try to download the update Smart Defrag 8.1.0.159 a new page pops up saying this site can't be reached. This is a message I posted on Major Geeks website after the 1st time I tried to install the update and was redirected to their website. The next time I tried running from IObit it directed me back to Major Geeks and it quarantined a virus called url:blacklist. I let Major Geeks know but as of right now there's no way to download this update. I know the software is free and thank you very much for this service you guys offer!!!
It downloads (but there's nothing in my downloads folder) and immediately says failed so I guess the download doesn't complete. When I read the other comments on MajorGeeks it looks like other people have had problems w/ the IObit Smart Defrag as well.
I just tried downloading again and did everything you suggested, except the Controlled Folder Access b/c it said I'm limited to some areas of this app, before downloading and I get the same thing. I even checked to see if there were any system updates and restarted my pc to see if that would help... it didn't.
The download link at majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirror/iobit_smartdefrag,1.html doesn't work for me at all, the other one, with a "2", and -defrag-setup.exe manage to download a file. Actually, two files, both called "smart-defrag-setup.exe", both weighing 0 bytes. The first one has the standard iobit setup icon, and when I click on it it says "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher." - and after I close this window this file self-destructs for some reason. The other file has no icon, when I click it I get: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item." I go to delete it - I get "File Access Denied. You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this file." (I am already the administrator.) I click "Continue" with the admin icon: "You require permission from [my own PC account] to make changes to this file." I managed to delete it after rebooting the PC, tried all of the above again and got the same disappointing result.
Needless to say that this is the first time I've run into a problem like this. Which makes me think the problem is not on my side since I haven't made any major changes in my software in a long while. I would try the "downloading in Safe Mode with Networking" method but frankly I don't know how, perhaps you could direct me to a guide? Or just share the working setup file directly?
Hi hoping you can help me. I have had a laptop power failure which has disabled my keyboard. Unfortunately I am stuck in a never ending loop during startup. The IObit Smart Defrag for Boot Time is automatically running and after it completes three tasks (MFT defrag, Pagefile defrag & System file defrag) it requires "press ESC to exit". With no laptop keyboard, I am using a USB keyboard to navigate through the start up. The ESC key is not being recognised by the defrag program and sits there idle waiting for a response.
