Richard, thank you for your reply. Let me be more specific about the problem. I was trying to use Mupen64plus-QT to edit the controller input, but despite trying numerous times, the settings always reset whether or not mupen64plus was open or closed during the configuration.
My experience was that the mupen64 config file would always be overwritten no matter what settings I chose in Mupen64plus-QT, whether they be fully automatic, or manual with SDL, or fully manual. It was very frustrating to try to get this to work, and I read countless complaints online about people having the same experience that I did. When I started trying to edit the same file manually, i got the same results; everytime I launched Mupen64plus my config would be overwritten.
Also there is some confusion about which file is actually supposed to be edited, whether it is supposed to be the mupen64 config file or the other config file - InputAutoCfg.ini This was a mystery while I was trying to configure this, and depending on which forum you landed on the opinion would vary as to which file was the one to edit.
I found that whatever settings I manually put into the InputAutoCfg.ini file was what actually stayed, and did not get overwritten when I launched Mupen64plus, so that's the workaround I found to work. It's unfortunate though, because all the entries have to be inputted manually via text, so the full functionality of the Mupen64plus-QT controller editor is completely useless because the config file just gets overwritten.
Hopefully the mupen QT folks figure out how to make the settings from their GUI stick, because manually inputting numbers to configure a controller can be very very frustrating.
