Can I open zip files?

I have a zipped nintendo64 rom and I would use it directly with mupen64plus by command line.
By command line
mupen64plus <path>/<rom>.zip
I get this error
UI-Console Error: core failed to open ROM image file '.....zip'
How can I use it on a zip file?

Sorry, but the command line front-end application doesn't support zipped ROM
files. You will have to unzip it first.
