mupen64plus stuttering and unplayable

Hi guys. I tried too run 2 different games on my linux mint machine (surface 2 pro):

007 and mario kart. Both are stuttering as hell while my cpu barely has something to do.

How can I investigate the bottleneck?

You could always try running it with no audio plugin and no speed limiter to
see how fast that it can run with your system and config: use the "--audio
dummy --nospeedlimit" flags.
