Hello all,
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, as I've had this working before, I
think with the same version of Mupen. Anyways, I'm running 1.99.4
using CuteMupen and playing Zelda: OOT. It plays beautifully, in
1920x1080, and I can load the saved games (not save states, but
profiles from the Zelda game) that I created on my last computer. I
can also 'save' on this computer, but nothing happens. The game
continues as if I had saved, but when I restart Mupen the changes have
not been saved. Looking at the save files, I see that the small (~32
kb) .sra file has been modified, but two larger files (~1 mb),
with .st0 and .st1 extensions, have not been. Any ideas? The log from
CuteMupen shows nothing that I can see, and I'm not sure where else to
look. Thanks!

st0 and st1 are states.

Also, keep in mind if you load from a save state, it is likely that it
will load the saves from that state, so if you like to do that a lot,
just use the states instead of the official saves.

One more note to this. I just tried Super Mario, and that saves just
fine. Something with Zelda in particular then?

I still think I picked the right issue, and if so, it's technically not a bug, per se. Here's a bigger picture.

Mario Kart: One set of save data, storing everything.

Zelda OOT: 3 Saves storing identical data, but stored to the save slot.

Save state in mario kart. Complete 3 races. Load save state and save normally (meaning automatically) and you lose those three races.

Zelda: Start at least two saves. Play in one, save state and quit to main menu by save + no "Continue Playing". Then, start the other, and save and quit. Load the save state from the first game, and save normally. You lose all the progress in the second game. Save states contain the save information within them, for all three games.

Short answer: Just use Save states for everything in OOT, especially if you use more than one of the game slots.

And it's not just zelda. It's true for any game with multiple slots, excluding (I think) ones that use the mempaks. For instance, it would also apply to mario 64 and Rayman 2, but not to Gauntlet.

Multiple save slots worked fine in Mupen64plus 1.5. This is regression if it is as described. However, Trygve, are you trying to use 1.5 saves with 1.99? That may not work. Try backing your saves up somewhere, deleting them from the mupen folder, and making new saves. If *those* don't work, it's the save system broken. If those do work, you simply can't use 1.5 saves in 1.99.

Also, check if your save files are read-only, or in a directory where
you do not have permissions to write to them.

Ok. Foolish me. It does work, for me at least, using saves from 1.5. I
had thought I was saving, but since my shift and control keys aren't
blue and green, I had gotten confused as to which saved and which
canceled. I tried again, and it saves just fine, without loading
states. Thanks for the responses - sorry to bother with a non-problem.

@Willrands: I've only tried saving one game, so I can't confirm your
issue here.

Oh, never mind. I guess it was a different problem from what I was
thinking :P. It sounded a lot like the one I was thinking of, but Im
glad you got it working!
