YESIt's working with the new LTS version of Ubuntu, 18.04, and out of the box! It appears that it gives you the option to use different printers (in reference to the drives and such), so select the appropriate one, in this case being the hp laserjet pro m130fw. Although it is using the hp laserjet m129 as its driver, you still have to point to the printer, being the m130. It'll work. Does that make sense?
(obviously change the [DOWNLOADED_VERSION] to the one you've downloaded).The setup takes some time but is pretty straight forward, just remember to overwrite the existing version of the program as ubuntu 14 already has it (but not in the latest version it seems).
After that I could easily add the printer via the installed HP Device Manager. It prints fine. Didn't test the scanning option yet but I got it working on another machine (with ubuntu 18.04 however) and I suppose it can be done as well.
I have been having an issue with my printer for about 2-3 weeks now. My printer keeps saying "driver is unavailable" and nothing im doing is correcting the issue. it is a wireless connection and the problem only seems to be when i try to connect through my pc. My pc is wired in and they are both on the same network. I have no problem printing off of my iphone, but i cannot off my pc. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling printer in "printers and scanners" from the devices tab. I have tried going into device manager to uninstall from the "print queues" tab, but it does not show up there. when i go to printers in device manager, there is a printer that says "unknown device" and i have tried uninstalling that. I have checked the printer settings for updates and i dont have one on there. I printed out a network summary and there doesnt appear to be any issues with the network or connection from printer to my wireless router. I have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, however none of those have resolved the issue. The printers only about 2 years old and was working perfectly fine up until now. I have gone through a couple HP support articles, but none of them i have come across mentions what to do if im still experiencing the issue.
Hello, I got the same problem: I can't print on a M130fw from a Win Server 2012R2 on the lan. I followed all the procedure without luck. I updated firmware too. I can ping the printer, I can access its web admin page, but I can't print to it.
No error displayed: print work correctly appears on work list window and then disappears from it, like it has been sent to the printer, but none comes out.

I got the printer to function on server 2012 however the scanner capability was not available. I have given up on the M130fw and are in the process of replacing it with an M148fsn which according to HPs technical support people will actually install on windows server 2012 2016 and 2019. Many of the very low end printers have no PCL interpreter built in and rely on the driver. These devices were never designed to be operated in a server environment and will cause headaches and heartaches. In my experience the minimum printer series that you should even consider in an enterprise environment is the 400 series.
I'm sorry but I can't accept the easy way of buying another MFP: drivers for the M130fw are available for Win2012 too so why I can't print? I print a sheet/day, the printer is like new (mounted the first spare toner few months ago) and now I have to change it? No. I can't accept it. I need to find a solution. I have just looked at the logs you have uploaded and it looks the dlpdaemon daemon is crashing repeatedly. I believe this daemon is associated with Microsoft Defender. Could you please remove it and reboot the machine before trying to add a printer again?
We have the same issue as well here, academic staff start complaining theirs printer disappearing after recently installed macOS Sonoma update 14.4.0 . Everything was working fine up until few days ago before installing the update. The last version installed was 14.3.1. So far we have approximately 40 devices affected. We have 60 Macbooks which we manage via Jamf Pro. Since MacOS 14.4, all printing functionality on the Macs is broken. There are no printing drivers on the Mac and any printer related activity comes up with the error message "cupsctl: Unable to connect to server: Bad file descriptor".
Welp, I've been banging my head on this wall also. I'm not running Defender, etc., nothing's showing up broken, and running 14.4.1. I just decided to jump into this thread for additional insights as well as hop over to HP to check in for new drivers. For my MFP M234dw, a firmware update was released exactly two days ago. I ran it, it did its thing, and now I can install my printer and print with impunity.
I see that you already tried resetting the Mac's print system, but have you tried simply removing, and then, re-adding this printer while logged onto your Mac with an Administrator account? Doing so will reset the device drivers and printer queue. Have you tried resetting the printer to its factory default configuration?
FWIW ... Although Apple does provide printer drivers for the most popular printer models, they get them from the manufacturers. New installations of macOS only include Apple and generic print drivers; whereas; upgrade installations also install drivers for printers already in use by the Mac. We are still dependent on the printer manufacturers for print drivers that "full featured" for theis specific printers.
I am sorry you are having printer problems. If you will bear with me, I will offer some things to consider. Whenever we install an operating system upgrade or some OS updates, printers and scanners will often stop working. Then, a new OS compliant printer software must be installed. What you can do is to thoroughly check the printer web site for an updated driver that works with the newly installed operating system. If one is not available, then you should ask when one will be released. If that doesn't work, if the Printer has the Air Print feature, that can be used and no driver will be needed. If not, then you can check the respected web site below where volunteers write free drivers for older printers which are no longer supported, but which work with newer operating systems. It is worth checking out. Good luck.
What you have encountered is not unusual. Apple does not develop its operating systems to conform to every printer's requirements. What Apple does is to provide OS requirements to all the various vendors who have equipment they wish to connect to and work with Macs, etc. Then the vendors must provide updated printer drivers (in this case) to meet those published requirements. This is how it has always been.
