Have you ever wondered what happens to your simulated resolutions?
Ever thought you could be doing something concrete?
Interested in attending real international UN or affiliated conferences?
Then the THIMUN YouthAssembly is just for you!
The THIMUN YouthAssembly (TYA) is a forum for young people aged 16 to 25 from all around the world. Organised by the THIMUN
Youth
Network (TYN), this conference allows young people to discuss world
problems and decide on innovative solutions as an international youth 'think-tank'.
This year there are eight committees that focus on a specific issue for
5 days - a detailed list of the committees and conference logistics is
available at the website:
http://www.youthassembly.org.
However, the work does not only take place in January; instead, you get
to meet your committee and your two coordinators online beforehand, and
actually discuss, cooperate, and prepare in great detail for the
conference. Online forums, mailing groups, and personal contact
information are all at your disposal so as to make the absolute best of
your time once you meet for a very productive week in The Netherlands.
The results of each committee are extremely concrete. Some committees
prepare participants for real UN or affiliated Conferences (we recently
sent groups to the World Water Forum in Mexico City, as well as the
2006 HIV/AIDS Conference in Toronto). Other committees prepare
or further develop active campaigns that directly seek to combat
the issue in question (for example the committee on Millennium Development Goals).
There is a committee or an issue that appeals to everyone - be your
interest history, international relations, communication, even
statistics.
It is difficult to squeeze a very broad and intricate conference into a
few lines, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact
gurel.g@youthassembly.org for further inquiries. This includes requests for an extension of the deadline, which is presently November 2nd.
