with Uwe Schmidt/ATOM TM (Raster 2023), the pioneer cult band Esplendor
Geométrico offers us their new album, Strepitus Rhythmicus, of machine-like
and futuristic post-industrial music. Electric pulse of mechanical rhythms,
hidden voices, and factory noises. E.G. reinvent themselves again and again
without losing their unique essence. Based now in Islamabad and Rome, Arturo
Lanz & Saverio Evangelista have not stopped their live performances all
over the world in the last years with great success.

¡MATANGO!
fue grabado en diferentes lugares durante el período 2018-19: una casa
antigua en las colinas de Perth, porches traseros en Fremantle, un
apartamento en Praga, una villa de campo francesa en el sofocante verano, y
un piano solitario en pandemia...
Una
bestia extraña y vigorosa de álbum, es una vuelta de tuerca del trabajo
anterior de KDH: Mínimo, mirando lascivamente con momentos de batería que
fallan, oleadas de sintetizador, espacios vacíos y una sopa de grasa, con un
bajo que hace todo flote…
La
grabación comenzó unas dos semanas antes del cierre en Australia, y así ocurrió.
En ese momento de hibernación, el álbum estaba en gran parte terminado y
finalmente se reanudó el trabajo, descubriendo lo que había allí, remodelando
y regrabando algunas pistas, y comenzando una posibilidad de apertura hacia
la experimentación (Survivor Guilt) que está en gran medida libre de
instrumentos convencionales, y es más bien un montaje de samplers y texturas,
compuesto en un piano y luego deconstruido en un silbido y gemido
espectral...
Algunos
de los miembros de la banda también (¡un poco imprudentemente!) decidimos
convertirnos en padres en ese momento, así que, vaya, ha sido un viaje
bastante complejo, entretejido con todo ese profundo e intenso aprendizaje
humano (y falta de sueño).
El
título del álbum se refiere indirectamente a la película japonesa de terror
psicológico de 1963 del mismo nombre (dirigida por el maestro de
Godzilla/kaiju Ishiro Honda).
Letras
entrelazadas, hay inferencias de malestar global y desplazamiento, escenarios
de futuro cercano, catástrofe climática, vórtices pandémicos, Los Simpson, la
gracia de las mujeres, la paranoia de la Guerra Fría, el proceso creativo en
sí y, por supuesto, Australia y su peculiaridad. Cosas alegres.
Desde
los zumbidos iniciales de la radio fantasmal de ‘Survivor Guil’t, hasta los
fascinantes susurros finales del violín en ‘Weigh of a Woman’, este álbum
emprende un viaje bastante extraño y serpenteante. Disfruta la escucha, tanto
como nosotros lo hemos disfrutado haciéndolo.

Davis' 'Fedding Bells' 45 - first issued on the Ke Ke label out of Detroit in
1964, was an early Dave Hamilton project that he collaborated with Melvin
for. Both sides are noteworthy, "It's No News" has particularly
amusing lyrics over a dance-friendly rhythm. Melvin is a legendary singer and
sometime drummer who has suffered ill health in recent years: this release is
our tribute to him. Known as Detroit's soul ambassador, all those who have
met him will testify as to how great a guy he is.

reissue adds two further songs from the 'Model Workmanship' demo from 1980,
making it a classic four track EP. Model Workers deal in angular pop with a
clear punk edge, with lead track 'My Winter of Discontent' being a pure DIY
gem that is tight and jangly, and has the same feel as an early Television
Personalties or The Times 7" or even a home recorded demo by the Jam.
Had it been a Whaam! label release back in the day, Model Workers would have
been a household name. But as it turned out Model Workers lifespan was short,
burying the band into obscurity and turning the record into a DIY want list
staple for 40 years. This reissue comes in an 8 page booklet sleeve including
paper clips, band pictures and other band's ephemera.

"Wear
Your Natural, Baby" was a good seller when issued on Kent Harris' Romark
label in the late 60s - judging by the, at least, three pressings of it.
Understandably so, as it is a captivating rhythm for a then very current
political and fashionable message. Towana was in fact Ty Karim, singing under
her young daughter's name. On this flip, Ty recorded as herself on a cover of
the CB Overton's hit "If I Can't Stop You". However, Kent Harris
decided to not go with this recording at the time and re-cut it with new
lyrics as eep On Doin' Whatcha' Doin'' as a duet with George Griffin issued
in 1980 on Sheridan House. That record has become a modern soul classic over
time and this alternate solo version, with the different lyrics, by Ty is
sure to excite lovers of that genre.

was recorded at Smuckers Cabaret Club in Brooklyn in May 1977 and as well as
a fast prowl through 'Expansions' includes extensive meditations on
"Visions Of A New World (Phase One) and 'Visions Of A New World (Phase
Two) from the 1975 LP of the same name. The atmospheric 'Prelude' sounds a
precursor to Vangelis's soundtrack for the seminal science fiction film Blade
Runner from 1982. Throw in new songs like 'Sorceress' and 'Watercolours' an
enthusiastic appreciative audience and you have a live classic. This was
Smith's final album for Flying Dutchman and a perfect farewell.
