Considered one of the most
innovative groups on the Colombian musical circuit in 1973, Columna de Fuego
forged its sound by creatively and organically mixing elements of hard rock
with rhythms rooted in the music of the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. The band
featured members of Los Young Beats, Los Speakers and Siglo Cero. Their only
LP, recorded in Spain and released in Colombia only in 1974, was a turning
point in the history of Colombian rock, an album full of funk, soul, cumbia
and currulao that maintains a fast pace from start to finish. Unavailable for
five decades, we are proud to now present the first-time reissue of this
obscure gem.

album from 1973, full to the brim with unrelentingly hard and heavy salsa
bangers that never let up (hence the title, "The Violent One"). The
record is a pleasing mix of originals and covers and contains the anthems
'Tronco seco', sung by Wilson Saoko, and adando', a hit for Joe Arroyo. But
there's a whole lot more, including hot holiday tunes and the stomping
descarga alsa Na' Ma'. This album is "all killer and no

FRUKO - A LA MEMORIA DEL MUERTO
Repress 2021!!First ever reissue
of "A la memoria del muerto" (1972), Fruko y sus Tesos' second
album, featuring the soaring and soulful vocals of Cali native Edulfamid
Molina Díaz, aka "Píper Pimienta". Produced by Fruko's uncle Mario
"Pachanga" Rincón, the LP has an uncompromisingly stark, hard sound
that is appealing to today's collectors of 'salsa brava' just as it was
impactful on the Colombian scene when it was made. Unlike the first Tesos
album, with a two-trumpet line-up and fairly simple arrangements, this more
mature recording added another trumpet and two trombones for a more robust
brass attack. Additionally, instead of basic salsa, there are many different
rhythms - guaguancó, bomba, plena, oriza, bolero, cha-cha-chá, descarga and
Latin soul. Includes the bonus track 'Tihuanaco' (a cover of Peruvian pianist
Alfredito Linares), which appeared on the US edition of the LP. Presented in
facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl.

band Esplendor Geométrico. Recorded and originally published in 1988 and

with a different exclusive artwork on the back cover. After a start in which
the line of acute distortions and buzzy basses of their previous albums
continues, it follows a surprising rhythmic viscerality, reaching its peak in

'Hope For Love' turned up on a one-off
master tape which arrived at Ace HQ courtesy of Grapevine Records, who knew
we were working with Darrow. Darrow thought the tape was one he and his
stepfather Johnnie Haygood made to interest Ray Charles. Ray eventually
signed Darrow to his Crossover label. Darrow remembered cutting it in the
early 70s, a period when he was relatively inactive recording wise. It has
proved to be very popular with the two-step crowd and a vinyl single version
will be very welcome. 'No Limit' was also recorded and released by both Jean
Terrell and Breakwater in 1979.

The recent find of four Joe Graham
recordings in the GRC/Aware tapes has shown there was much more to Joe's
talents than the southern soul of his 60s Chant recordings and the
synthesiser, electro pop he recorded for various Atlanta labels in the 80s.
'Higher Than High' is a soulful disco number featuring a relentless beat.
We've taken the opportunity of including another excellent, unreleased at the
time, recording from the revered John Edwards. 'It's Got To Be The Real Thing
For Me This Time' is an uptempo Sam Dees song, unheard until the 1990s
release of the first batch of GRC/Aware tapes

Clydene Jackson's 1975 debut LP for Ray
Charles Crossover imprint failed to make much noise on its release. It is
largely a smooth jazz/based album, half the tracks of which were written by
Clydene. One track, in particular, broke the sophisticated music mould and
was picked up by UK DJs on the Modern Soul scene. 'I Need Your Love' became
popular in the UK and eventually Europe, leading to the track's release on a
single-sided 45 in 2001 That pressing did not satisfy demand however and the
song's popularity has continued to grow and grow. Kent are making it
available with the excellent 'we're In Love', another self-penned track from
the same LP, on the flip.

MISSFITS - MEET THE MISSFITS
It was standard practice in the 1960s
for British beat groups to pepper their repertoires with American R&B
songs. Formed by five music-loving schools from Blackpool, the Missfits were
no exception. Although they group released no records during their time
together, for two brief years they were the toast of Blackpool clubland. They
played at the same veues as local bands such as the Rockin' Vickers,
including some gigs at the famous Oasis Club in Manchester and at the
short-lived Blackpool branch of the Twisted Wheel. In February 1964, they won
a recording test in a talent competition and travelled to London that summer
to commit some of their favourite songs to tape. The tape reel was soon
forgotten and thought lost but Janet had thankfully kept it safe, enabling
the appearance of the four tracks on this 60s-style vinyl EP. Drummer Janet
Baily provides lead vocals on their version of John Lee Hooker's 'Dimples',
and bass player Pauline Moran sang lead on Bo Diddley's 'You Can't Judge A
Book By The Cover', Chuck Berry's 'I'm Talking About You' and Ray Charles'
'What'd I Say', with guitarists Andrea Hine, Carola Daish and Liz Hall
joining in on backing vocals.

The discography of trumpeter Don Cherry
is one of the most fascinating in music. Although famously associated with
the ground-breaking free explorations of Ornette Coleman as his career
progressed, Cherry delved into all manner of waters from cosmic mediative
wig-outs to mainstream funk. He also pioneered what is now branded as world
music, At the other end of the spectrum is this delicious collaboration with
Jon Appleton called "Human Music". Jon Appleton was an early
pioneer of electronic music in America. He established his first primitive
studio whilst studying at the University of Oregon in the mid-60s. Assisted
by a financial grant this was greatly expanded at Dartmouth College in New
Hampshire in the late 60s where Appleton began to record his sonic
explorations at his bespoke electronic music studio. It seemed only natural
that Appleton would come to the attention of the questing ears of Flying
Dutchman label supremo Bob Thiele. This led to the album "Appleton
Syntonic Menagerie" released on Flying Dutchman in 1969. Recorded at the
Dartmouth studio it's a fascinating album rich in ideas, proto synthesiser
sounds and sonic exploration. Listening today, it's as if Steve Stapleton
from Nurse With Wound went back in time to record a secret album.

The John Carter and Bobby Bradford
Quartet/Quintet were critical to the progressive jazz movement around Los
Angeles in the late 60s alongside the likes of Horace Tapscott. Both hailed
from the Watts area and trumpeter, Bradford played with a woodshedding
Ornette Coleman for two years in the early 60s when the legendary free
movement leader decided not to record for a while but wanted to hone his
trademark sound on the saxophone. Multi-reed player, Carter also worked with
Coleman who brought them together to lead their own band. * This is the
second album they recorded where Carter and Bradford were supported by Tom
Williamson (bass), Buzz Freeman (drums) and another uncredited bass player on
four extended improvisations 'The Sunday Afternoon Jazz Blues Society', 'The
Eye Of The Storm', 'Loneliness' and 'Encounter'. The album has been out of
print on vinyl since 1971 and now are delighted to release it with audio
taken from hi-res digital transfers from the original masters.

This is an unusual album in the
catalogue of Ornette Coleman, and one that passes by most critics. It is
however a unique insight into the 'free jazz' pioneer's way of working in the
early 70s. Recorded at his large loft space in downtown New York which inspired
a whole scene of experimental musicians who were locked out of playing
established venues. The music is a romp showing Ornette playing trumpet as
well as saxophone. His quartet which featured second saxophonist Dewey Redman
alongside long term cohorts Ed Blackwell and Charlie Haden prove to be the
perfect foil for this legendary set. This is the first vinyl reissue in
nearly 20 years and utilises a fresh 24/96 transfer from the original
production master.

FOO FIGHTERS - DOWN IN THE PARK - THE NYC BROADCAST
In October of 1994, shortly after the
death of Kurt Cobain, Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl re-entered Robert Lang's
Seattle studio, where Nirvana had conducted their final recording sessions.
Intending to create demos of his own material, over the course of a week
Grohl would commit his ideas to tape. Except for some guitar assistance from
Greg Dulli (of Afghan Wigs) on one track, Grohl would literally become a
one-man band during these sessions, writing all the songs, playing all the
instruments and singing all the vocals himself. Recorded at Tramps in New
York City, these musicians served as both an opening act and as backing band
for Mike Watt *on his tour promoting Ball-Hog or Tugboat?). Experience the

Heavy Rain was a "heavy progressive blues" band who shared stage
with big names like Hawkwind, Pink Fairies or Caravan. In 1973, now reduced
to a power-trio, hey went to London and registered an album which was never
released at the time but a few metal acetates were made. Only one copy is
actually known of this monster rarity. Music is 100% underground psychedelic

Recorded in New York in 1957 (though not
released until 1962), 'Tijuana Moods' was, according to Mingus himself, 'the
best album i ever made'.The music is a vigorous stew of Mexican rhythms and
sophisticated post-Ellington arrangements, further invigorated by the soloing
of trumpeter Clarence Shaw, trombonist Jimmy Knepper, and, particularly,
saxophonist Shafi Hadi. Mingus's vision of Tijuana was clearly sensual, the
music evoking strippers, frenetic street scenes, and heart-broken lovers.
Making use of suite like thematic material and various forms of counterpoint,
the group sounds much larger than it is, and points toward Mingus-s later
experiments with form. the bristling sound and spirit of the music, however,
are its primary attractions - a remarkable place where Mexican fantasy and

Back in stock! 'Interstellar Overdrive'
is an instrumental composition written in 1966 and is on PINK FLOYD' 1967
debut album, 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn', clocking in at almost ten
minutes in length. 'Interstellar Overdrive' was one of the first psychedelic
instrumental improvisations ever recorded by a rock band. It was seen as Pink
Floyd's first foray into space rock. It has also been described as an
experimental and psychedelic as well as an example of proto-prog. Waters once
called the song 'an abstract piece'. Not connected to pop music, a long
improvisatory quality. The stereo version of the song has an organ moving
from speaker to speaker, the effect is not on the mono version of the song,
where it gains extra organ and guitar sounds, in fact the organ is very
prominent during the first minute of the mono version-along with some special
effects-but inaudible in the stereo mix. You will find both mono and stereo
versions off the LP plus a rare edit (French only releaed at the time) and a
long freak out version that clocks in at 16.49.

and latest in our series of 12-inch vinyl albums spotlighting the US girl
group sound of the 1960s. The collection opens with 'Street Dance' by Bonnie
Jean, a little-known must-have for collectors of the genre, with Darlene Love
and the Blossoms clearly audible on background vocals. Issued on Lew Bedell's
Doré label, this exciting faux-live deck in the style of Shirley Ellis' 'The
Nitty Gritty' was written by Guy Hemric and Jerry Styner, a hip team known
for supplying songs for the soundtracks of B movies such as Muscle Beach
Party and Thunder Alley. Other highlights include the Sweethearts'
Supremes-influenced 'No More Tears', the sophisticated slowie 'Lonely Girl'
by the Lovettes (that's them on the front sleeve), 'My Heart Tells Me So' by
the Del-Phis (an early incarnation of Martha & the Vandellas) and the

Latin Freestyle was a dizzying,
passionate, ultra-modern music. It was the aural equivalent of a can of
thirst-quenching Quatro or a Spanish Harlem dance-off, and it became the
electronically constructed bridge between disco and house. Freestyle grew out
of the electro sound of the early 80s, combined clean staccato rhythms with
morse code synth hooks, and topped them off with emotive, usually female,
frequently Latina vocals. There was plenty more going on besides: proto-house
piano lines, Cuban percussion, high emotion and synth hooks to die for.
Today, Freestyle is a scene with a solid collector's market, and rarities
like Janelle's 'Don't Be Shy' sell for hundreds of dollars. It's a classic
