O LEVEL - EAST SHEEN
Reissue of this absolute classic of the late 70s UK underground. 'O' Level was
created in 1976 by London
guitarist Ed Ball along with two friends from school, the Benett brothers
(John on drums and Gerard on bass), who would leave the band in March 1978.
That same line-up plus Dan Treacy (another school friend of Ball's) recorded
the first Television Personalities single in 1977, titled '14th Floor'. 'O'
Level self-released that same year their first single, which included three
tracks strongly influenced by punk's energy (Buzzcocks and Undertones guitars
and melody on 'East Sheen') and attitude (with ironic comments about fake
punks on 'Pseudo Punk'), but as if seen from a distance, outside a decadent
scene which had already been absorbed by the establishment. The single also
features a sort of homonymous anthem called `O' Levels'. Ed Ball's music
career would go on over the following decades as he continued developing his
own strand of wonderful pop music through the 80s and 90s with bands such as
Teenage Filmstars, Television Personalities, The Times and many more, plus
several records as a solo artist. TRACKLIST Side A EAST SHEEN Side B PSEUDO PUNK

SALA DEL SILENCIO, LA - LA SALA DEL SILENCIO
After the break-up of Décima Víctima, one of the leading Spanish post-punk
bands, brothers Lars and Per Mertanen formed La Sala del Silencio with Aurea
Cuní in Barcelona.
This rehearsal recorded on cassette in 1984 follows a similar path to Décima
Víctima and is the only material left behind by this short-lived band, never
heard until now. TRACKLIST Side A LA TEMPESTAD NUNCA HABLES CON

TELL-TALE HEARTS, THE - 517 FOURTH AVENUE
When I think of the Tell-Tale Hearts, I like to think of them first of all as
friends, and secondly as a band that surfaced in the early 1980s who were not
only a force to be reckoned with, but also stood out miles above and beyond
the plethora of pseudo-retro-garage bands that followed the initial emergence
of what we now look back on in retrospect as 'The Happening 60s Garage Scene'
that took place from the late 70s through the late 80s. The band took form
when bassist Mike Stax left The Crawdaddys in 1983 and met up with singer Ray
Brandes and organist Bill Calhoun. With the addition of Eric Bacher on guitar
and Dave Klowden on drums, they became The Tell-Tale Hearts, recorded a slew
of powerful records, blew people's minds when they did live shows, and
eventually disbanded in 1987. I would naturally bond with Mike Stax as soon
as he hit the scene with the Hearts. We shared a number of friends, ideals
and musical values, corresponded as pen pals, and eventually met for the
first time in 1985 when my former band The Chesterfield Kings shared the bill
with the Hearts, as well as the stage in Los Angeles and San Diego (ever see
ten guys on a stage cover Bo Diddley's 'I'm A Man'?). What I found refreshing
was the fact that there were no territorial attitudes among our bands as I
had experienced many times in that period, just good vibes; we immediately
became blood brothers, and crossed paths a number of times over the years. I
will never forget the edge and power the Hearts had on stage - which leads me
to this EP that you have here. It contains four of the fiercest and first
Tell-Tale Hearts numbers ever recorded; their raw takes on The Topsy Turbys'
'Hey Tiger', The Wig's 'Crackin' Up', The Malibus' 'Cry' and the Calhoun-Stax
original ('You're A) Dirty Liar' basically sum up what you would encounter at
one of their live appearances. The tracks herein were recorded directly to a
1/4" mono tape recorder, live-in-the-studio by practice studio
owner/sound engineer Steve Epeniter and were all done in one or two takes
(with no overdubs). Recorded March 7, 1984 at Studio 517 (located in downtown
San Diego), they have the same vibe as the 'needle-in-the-red' earthy Chess
recordings of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and the early Stones, and, in my
book, define the concept of what is now coined as 'Garage-Rock'. I know you
will agree. Greg Stackhouse Prevost TRACKLIST Side A HEY TIGER (YOU'RE A)

DAY OF PHOENIX - WIDE OPEN N-WAY
1970 debut album by Denmark's Day Of Phoenix, produced by Tony Reeves
(Colosseum). An epic collection of melancholic songs with extended

and, as a whole, form a captivating work of loose psychedelic and progressive
rock. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl. TRACKLIST

ETANT DONNES WITH MICHAEL GIRA - OFFENBARUNG
UND UNTERGANG
Reissue of this 1999 collaboration between Etant Donnés (Eric & Marc
Hurtado) and Michael Gira (Swans), featuring Mark Cunningham (Mars) and Saba Komossa
(Delkom). The album is based upon the text "Offenbarung Und
Untergang" ("Revelation and Demise"), written by the Austrian
expressionist poet Georg Trakl in 1914. The Hurtado brothers create a
fittingly eerie, somber and desolate soundscape as backdrop to Gira's reading
and singing (in German) of Trakl's equally somber poetic text. TRACKLIST 1.

JEAN PAUL "EL TROGLODITA" - VUDU
Nicknamed "El Troglodita" (The Caveman) due to his wild antics,
Enrique Tellería aka Jean Paul was one of the most popular Peruvian singers
during the late 60s and early 70s. "Vudú", recorded in 1972 for
Discos MAG, is his second album and features the amazing band Laghonia as
backing musicians. Their performance, the seamless brass arrangements and
Jean Paul's impressive delivery make this LP a spectacular combination of
hard psych and Latin soul/funk. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on

VARIOUS - ROOTS OF SALSA VOL.2 (+CD)
Pablo Yglesias -aka DJ Bongohead- compiles to Grosso Recordings an amazing
serie with classics tunes from Caribbean music that became great successes of
"Salsa". Bonus CD included. Some tracks have been remastered and
restored and some are presented on vinyl after many years. Nice graphic
design. 300gr cardboard. Insert with Spanish/English liner notes by Pablo "Bongohead"
Yglesias Format and selection designed for DJs, collectors and general
public. "This is the second volume in our series on the roots of
salsa...The main criterion was to pick tracks that sounded adequate for
today's DJs to play at a gig, or were sufficiently interesting (or enough of
a surprise to fans of the later version) to merit inclusion. The other
measuring stick was that they needed to come from the old-school, before the
more modern era (from 1962 on) and all of its recording innovations and
marketing strategies...for now, listen to these dozen gems and then go back
to their more familiar cousins from recent times and compare and contrast,
and we're sure you'll be enlightened and entertained." Pablo E.

CHILDISH, BILLY & CTMF - WHAT ABOUT
BRIAN/THE FIELDS IN MIST
The A/side is an alternate version of a track from the band-s recent Brand
New Cage LP. The B/side is exclusive to this release. @There-s a plaque to
Mick and Keith at Dartford station saying -here they formed the Rolling
Stones.- To his great credit Bill Wyman is pretty pissed, you can see him
complaining on YouTube about it, saying it-s nonsense and that Brian formed
the group... he-s like the conscience and the talisman of The Rolling Stones.
Apparently quite a difficult character in a lot of ways. His idiosyncratic
take on things meant his demise was like the end of the validity of rock
music.@ Billy Childish / July 2017

SLENDER - WALLED GARDEN
Debut 6 Track EP from NYC's Slender after two Demos in 2014 and 2015. Slender
is the runt of the litter yet seem to be having more fun than anyone making
music for themselves. The EP starts with Suddenly I See which sounds like The
Snipers on Crass Records mixed with Warsaw / all tense, basic and rigid.
Anxiety follows and has that home recorded Swell Maps feel. There She Goes
barely gets to end with a a 4 track recorded quality. It Exists To Make The
World Feel Nice has a crazed theremin through the whole song whilst Magic is
driven by a Peter Hook style bass line and a sinister vocal. Last track Not
Afraid completes the EP with a woozy guitar, theremin and recording quality that
just adds to this 2017 outsider music. In twenty years time people will
discover this record and still think it's out there. Limited
to 300 copies.

AD NAUSEAM - ONCE UPON A TIME...1982/1984
Ad /Nauseam were originally formed from the joining of 2 local punk bands.
These were... Birth Trauma ^ The Annihalates. When they first played live
there were 2 vocalists, Barry from birth trauma ^ ally of the Annihalates.
Ally would do the first part of the live set then Barry would complete the
second half. They gigged extensively in the early 80s. After recording The
Brainstorm ep ^ gigging some more the band split. Barry carried on with ad
nauseam ^ recruited new members. This was a good thing as the hard/core scene
was gaining momentum around that time with the likes of Discharge Chaos Uk
Disorder Amebix taking the scene by the scruff of the neck ^ giving it a
fucking good shake. Ad Nauseam fitted in well with Barry being an angry
fucker it gave him the chance to let off steam __ we ended up supporting ^
playing alongside the bands we loved, made some good friends ^ met some great
people. We recorded a ltd pressing of 500 copies of The Greatest Show On
Earth 12@ which is still being sought after now. A Italian company Noise not
Music copied ^ released the album without any permission from the band.
However Victor asked permission to print this album of demos ^ I personally gave
him permission for this as he was decent enough to ask. Not sure how the
sound quality of our demos will stand up these days. Especially the early
stuff. But it-s loud it-s raw it-s fucking hard/core. _

ALL PIGS MUST DIE - HOSTAGE ANIMAL
Four years since the release of their last full/length All Pigs Must Die have
returned with Hostage Animal, a 10/song album that distills aggressive music
to its purest tenets. The band, now a 5/piece with the addition of Brian Izzi
*Trap Them( on guitar, is comprised of some of the most well/seasoned
musicians on the eastern seaboard -Kevin Baker *The Hope Conspiracy(, Ben
Koller *Converge(, Matt Woods, and Adam Wentworth *both of Bloodhorse(.
Hostage Animal is their most dynamic collection of work thus far and the
album's first single, "A Caustic Vision," is an aural representation
of the record as a whole< concise, intense, aggressive and carrying a
bleak world view.

ALMANAC - KINGSLAYER (2LP)
ALMANAC, the band featuring former RAGE guitarist Victor Smolski, will
release its sophomore album, @Kingslayer@, on November 3 via Nuclear Blast.
The disc was recorded at HeyDay Studios in Wuppertal, Germany and once again
features cover artwork by Hungarian artist Gyula Havancsák *ACCEPT,
DESTRUCTION(. ALMANAC stands for a new dimension of symphonic power metal,
featuring three singers Jeannette Marchewka *LINGUA MORTIS ORCHESTRA(, Andy
B. Franck *BRAINSTORM( and David Readman *PINK CREAM 69(. In March 2016,
ALMANAC unleashed its acclaimed debut album, @Tsar@, followed by a European
tour along with ORDEN OGAN, as well as a European headlining tour earlier
this year. @Our second strike is complete,@ says Smolski. @-Kingslayer- is
the logical follow/up to -Tsar-, just more compact, heavier and faster. The
experience now under our belts gained from our many live experiences,
including the two tours and festivals, has been fully implemented in the
studio. The band have grown closer and stronger, you can feel this unified
energy within the new tracks. We took a lot of time and gave our very best.
-Kingslayer- is a crafted metal album with a lively power sound!@.

ANDY, HORACE - WHO SAY
Repress!!!* Horace Andy has always commanded a place high on the list of
Reggae singers from Jamaica. His distinctive haunting vocal style stands
strong on any rhythm, song or style he chooses to cover. Of the singers on
that long list, he has managed more so than any other, to crossover to a new
generation of listeners due to his individual style, helped also by his
collaborations with the likes of Massive Attack. Horace Andy (b. Horace
Hinds,1951,Kingston Jamaica) like many otherJamaican singers began his
musical career at Coxsonne Dodds Studio One. So impressed with the youth,
Coxsonne decided on a name change for theyoung artist and called him after
his top songwriter of the time Bob Andy. So Horace Hinds became Horace Andy.
His first tune for Coxsonne Something On My Mind was a slow burner in
Jamaica, but his belief in his young protg paid off when followed later by
Skylarking a tune that burst the singer all overthe radio and sound systems
of Jamaica. After numerous singles and two albums worth of material, Horace
moved on to work with many of the topflight Jamaican producers, among them
Keith Hudson, Augustus Pablo and Niney the Observer, but it was his work with
producer Bunny Lee in the 70s that he cut most of his hits for and from this
stable of work, that we have compiled this set. Some of his late 60s classics
were recut in the popular1970s style, working with the rhythm kings
themselves, Sly Dunbar andRobbie Shakespeare. They have added some shine to
the tracks, SomethingOn My Mind and Skylarking and made them hits all over
again. Such wasHoraces delivery to the covers he sang like Delroy Wilsons
version of theTams Riding For A Fall, the Heptones My Guiding Star, John
HoltsMan Next Door and Bill Withers Aint No Sunshine, that these finetunes
were made his own. The roots end of his musical style was covered by Andy
originals such as You Are My Angel, Zion Gate,Money Moneyand the cut which we
have taken our edited title, the timeless Just SayWho.A bass heavy cut to Bob
Marleys Natural Mystic works so well inthis style also. Another nickname
Horace acquired was the affectionate title of Sleepy, as he was always
hanging around the yards and studios of Jamaica waiting his turn, sometimes
so long he would fall asleep. His enthusiasm to get back in the studio to
work some more of his magic, to a catalogue of material that has developed
into one of the finest in Jamaica. I hope you will agree, this fine set of
1970s classics will sit alongside.

AUTOBAHN - THE MORAL CROSSING
sliver of strings, a squeal of feed/back, pulsing drums, sheets of steely
guitar and sonorous bass, and a rough, declamatory voice / from these primary
components, the Leeds quintet unfurl their second album, The Moral Crossing,
which adds more finesse, dynamic and colour to the commitment and energy
shown on their debut. To capture the new sonic details of the band, lead
singer and principal songwriter Craig Johnson, guitarists Michael Pedel and
Gavin Cobb, bassist Daniel Sleight and drummer Liam Hilton decided to build
their own studio space. The album was mixed in New York by Ben Greenberg
*Sacred Bones label(. "We've had the chance to create the sound we want,
at times it's more melancholic, and romantic." Part of the shift comes
from Johnson's newly honed melodies such as essel' and ¶orment', part from a
greater use of electronics, such as the synthesiser underpinning a haunting
uture', evoking neon/lit rainy/nocturnal rides through a cityscape, likewise
the album's title track, which is one song to benefit from the judicious addition
of vio/lin and cello. The words and song titles suggest more torture than
glory - for example, "A selfless crucifixion & You've nailed in the
hard sell" in the manic bituary'> "Pain out of control" in
¶orment'> "With your withered hand & Drag me deeper into the
fallen ground" in the escalating drama of allen' / a word, alongside
"fall", that crops up in several songs. And though Johnson admits
to sudden negative episodes *documented by 'Low&High', another
slowburner that eventually bursts into flames(, "they don't last long.
Actually, as a band, we're more optimists. I don't find talking about this
stuff as ark', but it's stuff people don't usually want to talk about /
execution, rising from the dead, depression, feeling utterly lost and unsure
where to go."

BAEZ, JOAN - DEBUT ALBUM
Joan Baez is one of the most prominent figures of the 60s folk scene and a
legendary musician, and activist. Growing up Mexican/American and in the
Quaker faith in the 1950s created in Baez a strong belief in pacifism and a
deep dedication to racial justice. After high school Baez moved to Boston and
immediately fell in with burgeoning folk scene there, meeting the influential
Odetta, and performing with Bob Gibson. It was her performance with Gibson at
the 1959 Newport Folk Festival that led to her signing and this debut album,
a truly fantastic piece of 1960s folk and the intro to one of the most
important voices of the 20th century American left. Track list> Side A>

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE - THANK GOD FOR
MENTAL ILLNESS
REPRESS!!!!This the first time this title has been available on vinyl . At
the risk of further labouring a rather obvious point, with Thank God for
Mental Illness, their third collection of absolutely stunning music in 1996,
the Brian Jonestown Massacre parallels the prolific and effortless brilliance
of the Rolling Stones at their fevered late-1960s peak; the sheer scope of
their achievements is stunning - rarely are bands quite so productive, or
quite so consistently amazing. Thank God is the BJM's down-and-dirty
country-blues outing, all 12-odd tracks supposedly recorded on a single July
day at a cost of just $17.36 . Originally Newcombe was heavily influenced by
The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase - the name comes from Stones guitarist
Brian Jones combined with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones, but his work
in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK
Shoegazing genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music,
especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music

CACCIAPAGLIA, ROBERTO - SEI NOTE IN LOGICA
(+CD)
Repress!!!Impossible to find album, reissued for the first time ever on
vinyl!!! 1979s Sei Note In Logica is Italian experimental composer Roberto
Cacciapaglias second LP, a minimalist album that features one continual
composition "for four voices, computer, and orchestral ensemble",
in the same vein as Fred Rzewski, Steve Reich and Terry Riley. Unlike
anything else coming out of Italy at the time, Cacciapaglia (who worked for
Italys national Department of Phonology) is also quite advanced in his use of
computer-based technology. A major influence on the likes of Jim ORourke and
others of his ilk.

coincide with the 50th anniversary of Carr's best/known and best/loved 45

14 selections include all of Carr's US R^B and Pop hits from ou've Got My

pair of fan favourites from his original UK albums and several great tracks
that have never been released on vinyl in the UK before. As popular
with his fans now as he ever was, this collection will keep long/time

CAUSA SUI - VIBRACIONES DORADAS
Each of these four epic tracks is a testament to the fact that Causa Sui have
carved out a singular niche for themselves, where vintage Sabbath/isms are
filtered through a distinctively post/modern ethos. Causa Sui-s brand of rock
conveys everything that-s so great about fuzzed/out heaviness, yet there-s something
about it that makes the listening experience far from trivial. In stark
contrast to the standards of the stoner&doom scenes Causa Sui manage to
be weighty and peaceful at the same - forceful, yet vulnerable, ecstatic yet
thoughtful. On opener "The Drop" the band drives a thick John
Bonham groove into Can/esque freeform ecstasy before liquefying the groove
into a warm ocean of shoegazy guitars and wistful synths. On 11/minute
centerpiece, "El Fuego", they create a sonic river that seems be
channelling Popol Vuh as much as Palm Desert stoner rock. And the closing
title track can best be described as sounding like that Sonic Youth
sludge/metal record that never was.

CHILDISH, BILLY & CTMF - BRAND NEW CAGE
Wild Billy Childish ^ CTMF are back with their fifth album in five years.
Brand New Cage follows the critically acclaimed SQ1 album from 2016. It
features 10 new Billy Childish songs along with two written and sung by the
band-s bassist Nurse Julie. Subjects include lost landmarks of -70s Chatham,
the true revolution of punk, spirituality, lost loves and the sidelining of
Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones. The sleeve art features a photo of an
18/year old Billy taken in a King-s Cross photo booth in September 1978. As
Billy remembers> @I used to cut these tribal marks into my cheeks every
few weeks with a razor blade. I was really interested in African tribal
scars, and I knew they had ash in there so I would rub cigarette ash in /
very painful! I-m actually dressed there the most dangerous way you could be,
as a punk rock teddy boy. The teds didn-t like you wearing any ted gear.I-ve
got a leopardskin waistcoat, bootlace tie and my hair flat. You had 40 year
old men that would glass you. We-d go see Bo Diddley in -70s and we-d dress a
little bit ted. I was on a few death lists locally with teddy boys.@ @We-re
like a cherry tree in the garden that nobody can be bothered to scrump cos it
has slightly undersized fruit which has not been standardised for a
supermarket. But we-re the real thing and the jays and the crows like us.@ /

COIL - TIME MACHINES (2LP)
The reissued double vinyl LP will feature deluxe double pocket gatefold,
matte with gloss overlay with printed eurosleeves inserts. Each of the four
pieces on Time Machines is named after the chemical compound of the
hallucinogenic drug that they were composed for, and the album was
meticulously crafted to enable what John Balance referred to as @temporal
slips@ in time and space, allowing both the artist and audience to
figuratively @dissolve time@. Inspired by long form ceremonial music of Tibet
and other religions, where the intent is to lose oneself in the music - to
meditate or achieve a trance state - Time Machines became Drew McDowall, John
Balance, and Peter Christopherson's "electronic punk/primitive"
answer to this tribal concept. Starting as a rough demo tape recorded solely
by Coil member Drew McDowall, Time Machines started to take full form when
McDowall enthusiastically delivered these demo recordings to Balance and Christopherson
as sketches for a new Coil project with the primary goal of shifting Coil's
sound further into a more conceptually abstract direction. Largely recorded
in 1997 using single takes with minimal post production, these four drones
contain every intended fluctuation and tone, along with every glitch of the
original - "Artifacts generated by your listening environment are an
intrinsic part of the experience."

DAMNED - I'M ALRIGHT JACK AND THE BEAN STALK
Five years after the Damned seemingly called it quits for good, and five
years before Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible decided to give the band
another go on 2001-s Grave Disorder, Vanian and Rat Scabies found themselves
working together on a recording project with Kris Dollimore *ex/Godfathers(,
Alan Lee Shaw *ex/Rings&Brains&Maniacs(, and Moose *ex/New Model
Army(. Stuck for a name, someone figured, @Why not just call it the Damned_@
and I-m Alright Jack and the Beanstalk became the first Damned studio album
since Anything in 1986. One could honestly say with this release that Vanian
picked up where the band left off in 1986, but given the low creative ebb of
Anything, that-s something short of a compliment. In the liner notes Scabies
said, @I wanted to make a record that wasn-t like a punk album,@ and this
soggy mishmash of hard rock, goth, and art rock @succeeds@ in that approach,
lacking any of the fire, fervor, or snotty wit that made the Damned great.
Even the dark pop smarts of the group-s later/day singles such as @Under the
Floor Again@ or @Grimly Fiendish@ escape the reconstituted Damned this time
out, and the fact this album passed under the radar of many Damned fans is
more a favor to them than anything else.

rock beat that has been used by everyone from The Who, to Bruce Springsteen,

the fact that, oh yeah, he wrote and recorded some of the most important rock

which is prominently featured on the cover of this classic 1962 LP. This is
the first LP to feature his popular female rhythm guitarist sidekick, The
Duchess, and while not featuring the chart/toppers of other release is a
stunner of classic R^B influenced rock and roll that-s essential for any

ESCAPE-ISM - INTRODUCTION TO ESCAPE-ISM
Introduction to Escape/ism by Escape/ism isn-t a typical record. Oh, sure, it
looks like one, with a label in the center and mysterious grooves etched on a
sleek, black disc that glints in the light with a perverse air of knowing
treachery. But this disc is different. Why_ Because it-s the first @solo@
record by Ian Svenonius / of groups The Make/Up, Chain ^ the Gang, XYZ, Weird
War, etc. / and as such, it-s profound, prophetic, perverse, and poetic...
It-s introverted glitter, violence against the state, obsessive desire< it
stomps on convention, shreds constitutions, clobbers pre/conceived notions of
what a record can be. A drum box, a guitar, a cassette player, and a single
slobbering, sinful voice singing out... for a way out. Live, it-s a new
paradigm of performance> raw, gestural, idiotic, sublime, revolutionary,
poetic, faux naA?f, unknowing, a drainage pipe that leads to who knows where.
Escape/ism-s Introduction to Escape/ism isn-t ju st the soundtrack for a
late/night drive on a lonely interstate, or a platter played to incite abandon
at a pajama party with one-s pals. It-s also a tunnel to tomorrow. It-s a
mineshaft to the motherlode.

FELA KUTI & HIS KOOLA LOBITOS - FELA KUTI
& HIS KOOLA LOBITOS
THIS IS THE VERY FIRST FULL LENGTH ALBUM BY FELA RECORDED IN 1965 In early 1965, just
as the West African High-life scene was starting to get boring, the
revolutionary sound of Fela Ransome Kuti & His Koola Lobitos burst upon
us. A strikingly original musician, Fela Kuti was trained at the Trinity
College of Music in London. From the very first, he was influenced by those
"greats" of the jazz world - Thad Jones and Miles Davis. He gained
much practical experience gigging in his spare time with London-based jazz
men. A very talented musician - Felas primary instrument is the trumpet, but
he is also a swinging pianist and rave vocalist, as well as a composer and
arranger. A musicians musician. To maintain his reputation as West Africas
leading musician, Fela continuously experimented with varying forms of
High-life and other exotic rythmic patterns. The results of these experiments
are evident on all the numbers on this LP. Even the old familiar tunes have
that new and original High-life tempo that Fela has made his own. Many
so-called original bands have found fleeting success on the West African
scene - only to fade quickly into obscurity, but Fela's extreme talent has
made him one of its perennial stars.

GALILEO 7 - TEAR YOUR MINDS WIDE OPEN! (+CD)
This Kentish quartet have now been kicking out keen psych/pop nuggets since
2010, over the course of four albums and several 45s, but
vocalist&guitarist&songwriter Allan Crockford-s illustrious past and
parallel present, as bassist with a roll call of the greatest British bands
of the past 30] years / The Prisoners, The James Taylor Quartet, The Prime
Movers, The Solarflares, Graham Day ^ The Forefathers / seems to have,
weirdly, done -em no favours. And in an age when peeps of a certain age are
going goo/goo googly/eyed over the XTC back catalogue, rediscovering all
manner of 60s psych/pop and garage treats, and lionising such moderne combos
as Thee Oh Sees and Tame Impala, that the Galileo 7 haven-t reaped comparable
plaudits seems just plain stoopid. This, their fifth album *counting the
scorching @Live/o/Graphic@ set(, sounds like the work of a quartet of
twenty/somethings / it-s high/energy, psychedelic garage rock-n-roll, replete
with catchy, memorable tunes, seriously gnarly guitar, darkly humourous
lyrics, four/part harmonies, Viv-s searing organ, Paul-s pin/point bass work
and gloriously crash, bang, wallop drums, in a Keith Moon meets Thom Mooney
*The Nazz( vein. The latter comes courtesy of longtime Galileo 7 bassist Mole
*Embrooks & Higher State & State Records(, whose shift to the drum
seat has really kicked everything up a notch / his dynamite sticksmanship and
stellar backing vox really bring out the best in the band / from the kinetic
opener, @Cold Hearted Stowaway@, to the vinyl album-s elegiac closing track,
@Nobody Knows Anything@, they-re firing on all cylinders.

GUNASH - GREAT EXPECTATIONS
"Great Expectations" is the 3rd album of the alternative rock band
GUNASH and it's a kind of movie about society. Like every movie, it uses
different frames> panoramic shots on the very troubled world in which we
live, the ironically self/absolutory "Stone Garden" and on our own
place of birth seen by the Shakespearian line "...what is the city, but
the people_" "Sicktown"< cowboy shots where the protagonist
faces his&her paranoic relationship with the others
"Mirror"< the one of subjection with the media "Need To
Bleed"< the relationship between lovers "Mean", "Stray
Dog", "The Killing Silence". Then there are innermost details
"Great Expectations" full of hope and uncertainty< some
disengagement "Gunash Blues" to act as an outlet valve to the
tension stored little by little< a macabre hymn to life "Death
Comes". While the end credits are running, we understand the message
that the film director wanted to communicate through his disillusioned
look> we must nurse "Great Expectations" towards us, first of
all. This album was born during latest American tour at the end of 2015. The
band recorded 3 singles featuring Rami Jaffee *Foo Fighters(, at the
Fonogenic Studios in Los Angeles. In 2016 the band finished the recordings at
Go Down Studio in Italy, featuring Rami Jaffee on keyboards and as artistic
producer. The official videoclip of the single "Death Comes" took
months of work, involving more than 60 people and has been produced by the
video productions label Babylon Film.

GUTHRIE, WOODY - DUST BOWL BALLADS
This is the first record that -The Oklahoma Cowboy- made in NYC for Alan
Lomax, after his arrival in 1940, as part of his work for the Library of
Congress, taped on 26th April and 3rd May. Originally released as three
separate 78 rpm records, these are Guthrie-s tales about one of the most dire
periods in rural America, the Dust Bowl era. This quintessential work proves
that Guthrie was a true minstrel of the other face of America, the one that
you can-t find in history books> tales of poverty, migration, storms,
illness, hunger and harsh criticism of the American government. This record
kills fascists. Track list> Side A> 1. The Great Dust Storm *Dust Storm

Stoner Metal & Riff Rock Haddock from Sweden play Fuzzy Heavy Stoner Rock
claiming to be strongly influenced by the sounds of Kyuss, High On Fire,
Uncle Acid ^ The Deadbeats and Pentagram. So please get ready for some heavy
riffs, deep melodic bass lines and mesmerizing drum beats that will take you
on a trip through awesome rock. The singer-s superbly controlled voice keeps
it all together, and occasionally kicks you in the face with banshee/like
screams that somehow would put angels to shame. The band-s blend of fuzzed
out stoner rock reeks of ingredients from Spiritual Beggars, Dozer and
Lowrider. Hints of doom, heavy psych and desert rock can also be heard.

HAZYTONES - THE HAZYTONES
FFO> Black Sabbath, Uncle Acid ^ The Deadbeats, Kadavar, Witchfynde File
Under> Occult Heavy Psych The Hazytones, a three piece band from Montreal
have, since their 2015 inception, been kicking some serious ass around the
live circuits of their Canadian home turf. The Hazytones jam a groove of hard
and stoner rock blended with touches of bluesy psych that has a distinct but
not overpowering retro feel, a feel perfect for an underground scene
dominated by bands looking backwards towards the hard rock of the 70-s.
Scorching guitar solo-s and fuzz drenched crunching power chords, vocals,
clean, clear and powerful, big burly bass lines, a dazzling display of power
and finesse ... the three musicians combining to create grooves that can be
heavy and face melting one minute and laid back and lysergic the next. @The
Hazytones@ is an album that could as easily find its way onto the playlist of
an avid 70-s hard rock collector as it could that of the most discerning
stoner&psych&doom fan. From the Sabbath/esque opener @Light Of The
Day@ ,with it-s familiar vocal melody *Sabbath-s @Hole In The Sky@( and catchy
guitar riff, through to the Swedish retro/like grooves of final track
@Moonstruck@ there is a feeling of the past and the present coming together
to create something totally new yet oddly recognizable. *reviewed

INFA-RIOT - KIDS OF THE 80S-THE SINGLES &
MORE
Blasting out of the north of London in 1980, Infa/Riot *short for the term
@in for a riot@( perfectly encapsulated the youthful working class angst of
the nascent OI! scene and were peers with early groups like The Angelic
Upstarts, 4 Skins, and The Business / two of which were their label mates at
the legendary Secret Records. After releasing a few compilation tracks their
very first stand/alone single @Kids of The 80s@ shot all the way to number 2
on the UK charts. Infa/Riot were a big part of the UK sound of 1981/1982 and
this collection compiles their classic singles and ripping compilation tracks
and is an essential addition to any true UK OI! and punk collection.

KINGSNAKE - RESONANCE
FFO> Clutch, Orange Goblin File Under> Heavy/Rock, Stoner/Rock Since
their formation in 2006 this US band is cranking out a mix of 70-s hard rock
and 90-s stoner rock with a healthy dose of blues. What you get here is heavy
fuzzed out riffery very much in the vein of Clutch and Orange Goblin, but
leaning heavier towards the late 60-s early 70-s electric blues grooves of
Cream and early Led Zeppelin. This album bleeds of heavy stoner blues and
thick, tight rhythms that will grab a hold of you.

ska, and reggae to the table and made some of the most memorable European
punk records of the late 80s and 90s. Ci Incontreremo Ancora Un Giorno! is
their second album, originally released in 1990, and reissued here in all its

MIGHTY BABY - MIGHTY BABY
Repress!!! Formed out of the ashes of the legendary UK mod-pop group, The
Action, Mighty Baby kept much of that group's soul-inflected pop-psych sound
but upped the psych ante quite considerably. Mighty Baby stands as one of the
most cohesive and coveted of 1960s UK psych. It is the complete package,
blistering guitar work from Martin Stone, studio trickery, amazing
songwriting, great vocals, this record is the real deal and fully deserving
of its reputation. The band would go on to record with legends like Keith
Christmas, Sandy Denny, and more, as well as record a second album in 1971,
but nothing can surpass the pure psych perfection of their debut.

NEBULA - DOS EP'S
Nebula is one of those bands that would have fit perfectly on a concert bill
with Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, or the Stooges circa 1973. The power trio of
Eddie Glass *vocals, guitars(, Ruben Romano *drums(, and Mark Abshire *bass(
has quietly fused a somewhat modernized but highly distinctive -70s hard rock
sound all its own. Releasing Dos Eps is a smart move, combining the very
limited Sun Creature EP and the Meteor City split with three additional songs
that groove on raunchy guitar hooks, opaque slacker vocals, and bleed/heavy
drumming. Of the unreleased material, @Long Day@ pegs an infectious hard/luck
guitar swagger against a catchy slippery rhythm, while @Rocket@ and @Bardo
Airways@ scream in a straightforward attack that would make any old/school
AC&DC or Judas Priest fan proud. Also sounding retro/fresh are previously
released rockers @Full Throttle,@ @Fall of Icarus,@ and @Rollin- My Way to
Freedom,@ which all intertwine nicely together. @Smokin- Woman@ is truly a
signature piece that blisters in a fog of heavy fuzzed/out midsong riffage.
Despite the presence of occasional lyrical fluff, it-s the shredding musical
jams that should satisfy desert rock listeners, making Dos EPs essential for
Nebula collections. Dos Eps was released in 2002 on Meteor City. The songs
were engineered by Jack Endino and Joe Hogan.

NEBULA - LET IT BURN
Eddie Glass and Ruben Romano *ex Fu Manchu( have put together one of the most
sonically aural music obliterations ever put down on tape. Along with Queens
of the Stone Age and Eternal Elysium, Nebula were one of the most pleasant
surprises in the stoner rock movement. To call them another stoner rock band
is an injustice to their versatility and dynamism. Nebula experiments with
different types of sounds, including the raga piece @Raga in the Bloodshot
Pyramid.@ Arguably one of the best white/played ragas, besides the Northwood
Improvisers- phenomenal Stargarden, the song offers a refreshing change from
the average fuzz/infested rock tune. The guitars are brash, loud, covered in mud,
and loaded with crotch/kickin- feedback. The interplay of the drums and bass
and the extended guitar jam on the aptly titled @Sonic Titan@ is one of
several highlights on Let It Burn. There is no dead weight here. This is
especially true of the bonus tracks, which include the rawest, most brilliant
song on the album, @Devil-s Liquid.@ If you are a fan of the genre, or just
Fu Manchu, then put down your bong and Black Sabbath vinyl long enough to go
out and find yourself this masterpiece. The first six songs were recorded at
Rancho de la Luna, Joshua Tree, CA May 97, engineered by Fred Drake and
mastered by John Golden. The last two were recorded at LoHo Studios, New York,
NY June 1998, engineered by Joe Hogan and mastered by Dave Shirk at Sonorous

NEBULA - TO THE CENTER
Nebula-s first non/EP, full/length release, To the Center is another
retro/psychedelic heavy rock platter, long on stripped/down riff muscle and
surprisingly technically adept guitar jams. The results sometimes meander,
which probably isn-t of much consequence if this brand of metal is your bag,
since this is what you-d expect in this perception/expanding context. What
matters more than tightly structured songs are riffs and atmosphere, and both
of those are present in abundance. To the Center was released in 1999 on Sub
Pop. The album has much more of a progressive&psychedelic sound to it
than most of the band-s other albums. Produced by Jack Endino ^ Nebula.
Engineered by Jack Endino and ercorded at Hanzsek Audio, Seattle, April 1999.
The Heavy Psych Sounds To the Center reissue will be enriched by new

ONSLAUGHT - POWER FROM HELL
Simple truth no. 1: There are classic albums that simply must be available.
Always. On vinyl, of course. That truly accounts for the first full-length
album by legendary U.K.-thrashers Onslaught, whose debut from 1985 is counted
among the most influential cult classics of the nascent thrash metal scene.
Onslaught first started out as a punk outfit, heavily influenced by bands
like Discharge and G.B.H. on the one hand, and more metallic acts such as
Motorhead , Exodus, Slayer and Venom on the other hand. "Power From Hell"
does not betray these roots, being as filthy, mean and aggressive as it gets.
On this early release raw punk riffing meets satanic evilness, while Paul
Mahoney delivers strangled vocals that come straight from the hellish depths
of your local squats manky cellar, totally reflecting the spirit of a time
when music was not labelled but lived. Seen from the perspective of metal
history, "Power From Hell" is all the more important for another
reason: It was here that founding member Nige Rocket coined the term "Death
Metal" for the very first time. Anyone objecting to this shall be
remembered that Possessed recorded "Seven Churches" a month after
the release of "Power from Hell"!

PERMISSION - CONTAGIOUS LIFE
Storming debut by London-s Permission. An LP full of cut corners, but not the
kind that diminish im/pact or relinquish effort to what could of been, but
more the kind of oblique angles and low sharp ceil/ings that cause the head
that does not bang to bang, lesion, swell, and never clot. Forged in the
tat/tered die/cut of the contemporary edges of hardcore but thoroughly
punched clear out of the factory, thanks to the now legendary edge of guitar
player Ralph Simmond's stereo detuning, alongside tight turns and sharp time
changes. Big moves pin this LP far beyond expectation and straight onto a
great punk hit. Somewhere between a hi/fi Rudimentary Peni and if Saccharine

RAZOR - OSAKA SAIKOU
After so many years, @Osaka Saikou@ is the band-s first/ever live release and
Dave Carlo is really happy about the record and Razor-s trip to the land of
the rising sun> @Yes, it-s our first official live release. There are some
bootlegs out there from the past. And yes again, it was our first/ever trip
to Japan as well. These were special festival performances *two days( in
Osaka, Japan. That was the full extent of the trip. The Japanese trip was
great for us as we had the opportunity to not only perform but to see some of
the surrounding area. The culture of metal is very intense in Japan. The
society seemed to place a great emphasis on respect, which is something we
thought was awesome. The Japanese fans were of the highest quality in terms
of intensity and enthusiasm!

SCREAMIN' JAY HAWKINS - AT HOME WITH
By far one of the most outrageous performers of the early years of rock,
prone to emerging from coffins on stage, with a flaming skull named Henry as
his constant companion, Screamin- Jay was an insanely theatrical figure long
before it was even remotely acceptable. His 1958 debut, At Home, featuring
his legendary -I Put A Spell On You,- along with surreal hits like -Hong
Kong,- -Take Me Back To The Boot And Saddle,- or his wild/ass reinventions of
old standards like -I Love Paris- and -Deep Purple- is a carefully arranged
yet gritty, Ray Charles/gone/crazy styled, full band rhythm and blues
masterpiece, filled with enough howls and groans to send chills down your
spine. Track list> Side A> A1 Orange Colored Sky A2 Hong Kong A3

SLEEP - DOPESMOKER (2LP)
BACK IN STOCK!!WIDELY CONSIDERED TO BE THE ULTIMATE AND MOST IMPORTANT ALBUM

WITH ALL NEW EMBOSSED ARTWORK AND UNRELEASED BONUS LIVE TRACK. EXCLUSIVE
DELUXE CLEAR VINYL WITH AN EXCLUSIVE LIVE TRACK (NB DIFFERENT TO THE BONUS
LIVE TRACK ON THE CD)...GET 'EM WHILE YOU CAN!. TIPPED IN EVERY POLL YOU CAN
THINK OF AS ONE OF THE TOP TEN STONER BANDS OF ALL TIME, ALONG WITH THE LIKES
OF KYUSS, FU MANCHU ETC.. Formed as a Bay Area hc/punk rock band called
Asbestosdeath, the band changed their musical direction and name and debuted
as Sleep with their Volume One album in 1991. After Justin Marler left the
band, the core lineup of Al Cisneros, Matt Pike and Chris Hakius went into
the studio to record a demo cassette that they sent to Earache Records. The
recording was released in November of 1992 (exactly as received by the
label!) under the name Sleep's Holy Mountain and went on to forever alter the
musical landscape. Countless current bands cite Sleep's Holy Mountain as a
major inspiration, and the unique sound and style of the record can be heard
in many subsequent releases by bands from all over the world. Sleep's Holy
Mountain created such a humongous buzz that major label London Records signed
the band. Unfortunately, the label lacked the vision necessary to actually
follow through and release the album that Sleep recorded, mostly because it
took the not-radio-friendly form of a Single song - a 63 minute long ode to
weed - called Dopesmoker. Sleep returned to the studio and edited the track
down to 52 minutes and re-titled it Jerusalem, but it was again rejected.
London Records shelved the record and dropped the band, leading to their
dissolution. Dopesmoker was recorded by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Melvins) at
Record Two Studio in Comptche, California. While recording the song, it began
to form differently than the band had originally envisioned. Pike stated that
"The song was getting slower and slower and then it got weird. We
started tripping out and second guessing ourselves." Recording the album
was difficult. Pike recalled that "There was so much to memorize for
that album, and we had to do it in like three different sections because a
reel-to-reel only holds 22 minutes. It was really cool, but it was one of the
hardest things I've ever done in in my life." Sleep were in the studio
for one month then went home to rehearse and returned for another month. Pike
noted that they ended up with two or three different versions of the song. In
the aftermath of the breakup of the band, four versions of the album were
released. In 1999, Jerusalem came out with a running time of 52 minutes and
is a single composition split into six identically-named tracks. There are 3
different versions/releases of Jerusalem: (1) a rare London Records
promotional disc, (2) a bootleg with cover art by Arik Roper, and (3) the
Rise Above/Music Cartel Records release. All three of these versions are
edited and considered unauthorized versions. The version of the album titled
Dopesmoker was released on April 22, 2003 by Tee Pee Records on compact disc
and vinyl with a 63-minute running time. That version is the only version the
band considers to be "authorized" and worthy of release. Dopesmoker
stands as one of the towering achievements in recent metal history... a
mesmerizing, intoxicating, and incredibly complex song that is still
unrivaled in the annals of (stoner) metal. In 2011, Southern Lord was
contacted by Sleeps' Al Cisneros about the possibility of releasing a deluxe
version of this classic recording. The rights to the record had reverted back
to the band and Cisneros wanted to breathe some new life into the old beast.
Southern Lord was overwhelmingly ecstatic about the challenge of taking the
reigns of one of the most important recordings in the history of Heavy Metal!
The Lord version features brand new artwork by long time Sleep - artist, Arik
Roper, who created something specifically special for the albums' rebirth.
The biggest difference between this new version and the old releases is the
phenomenal remastering job by From Ashes Rise guitarist, Brad Boatright
(OFF!, Noothgrush). His vision was to enhance the original recording without
changing it drastically. What he has done makes this epic opus sound
invigorated, more powerful with renewed clarity and all-around unbelievably
mammoth. His work was enthusiastically approved by the band and considering
how focused, vigilant and protective of their masterpiece the band is, that
is nothing short of a miracle! Also exclusive to the reborn version of
Dopesmoker, is a unreleased live track of one of the best songs the band ever
did, Holy Mountain. The booklet features newly penned liner notes by the band
helping shed some new light on this holy grail of a album.

The first/ever official reissue of Slow-s only album! It is almost impossible

in Canada and forerunners of the Seattle grunge scene. Not bad for a band
that recorded only eight songs. Limited vinyl reissue!

STROPPIES - THE STROPPIES
Starting out as a recording project between Angus Lord, Claudia Serfaty and
Stephanie Hughes, the germ of what would eventually become the Stroppies was
formed around a kitchen table in Melbourne in early 2016. The initial idea
was to create open ended music, collaged quickly and haphazardly together on
a Tascam 4 track Portastudio that drew on stream of conscious/ness creativity
and a DIY attitude. The desire to move beyond the pre programmed drum
patterns available on their Casio Keyboard led to the addition of Rory Heane
on drums and a more conven/tional band dynamic. In Late 2016, Alex Macfarlane
recorded the band in their lounge room direct to 4 track, capturing 7 songs
that would become their 2017 self titled cassette tape debut. The songs were
bounced back and forth from tape machine to com/puter to tape machine to
computer again. In keeping with the bands initial aesthetic, dubs were laid
over a 4 month period incre/mentally on different devices. They make modest,
idiosyncratic pop songs that reward with repeated listening.

SURYA - APOCALYPSE A.D.
SURYA *from London, UK( are authors of a huge Instrumental Post Metal tinged
Doom, where music is a mix of heaviness and subtle sonic landscapes, ugliness
and beauty. Earth, Water, Air and Fire/ all in its eternal dance of creation
and destruction, bringing light through understanding the darkness. After
releasing one/track demo in 2015 *self recorded at Overdrive Studios in
Deptford( and playing few shows around London, SURYA went to Bear Bites Horse
studio in May 2015 to record their first full/length album. The band was
formed with the idea of exploring the depths of music rather than staying on
the surface, connecting with themselves and everything around them. For
Surya, music and art in general are powerful tools for conveying ideas, like
human&animal liberation and going back to Nature, and a whole spectrum of
emotions.

SWANN, BETTYE - THE MONEY MASTERS
The talented Bettye Swann scored an R^B hit with 'Don't Wait Too Long', her
catchy, self/penned, debut single for Money records in 1965. She seemed to
have a bright future but the Motownesque ¶he Man That Said No' follow/up did
not chart, nor did the tougher/sounding ¶he Heartache Is Gone'. However
Money's perseverance paid off when yet another self/written number ake Me
Yours', pressed all the right commercial buttons and spent two weeks at the
top of the R^B charts in 1967. The song was covered by Z Z Hill and Spencer
Wiggins and is an established 60s soul classic. Swann wrote nearly all
her own songs at Money, except a cover of the Temptations' 'Don't Look Back'
and an exquisite rendition of Sam Cooke's Change Is Gonna Come' which
was on her "Make Me Yours" LP and is featured here. An LP was
scheduled after the first hit, 'Don't Wait Too Long', but was shelved when
the follow/ups failed. That album contained the previously unheard 'The Dance
Is Over' and a faster version of Think I'm Falling In Love' compared to the
later single< both are deserved inclusions here. The momentum from
Swann's big hit carried over to all In Love With Me' which also charted, but
the next 45 was that cover of 'Don't Look Back' which did not add enough to
the Temptations' version to earn many sales. Far better was the urgent and
unusual 'Don't Take My Mind' which featured mature lyrics but was not far out
enough to join in the black psychedelic success of the time. After Money,
Swann moved to Capitol, Fame and Atlantic but her song/writing on these
releases dwindled and then ceased. This LP is testament to her song/writing
as well as her vocal skills.

HABIBI FUNK

|
VARIOUS - HABIBI FUNK-AN ECLECTIC SELECTION
(2LP)
Habibi Funk is dedicated to re/releasing a style of music that historically
never existed as a musical genre. We use the term to describe a certain sound
that we like from the countries of the Arab world. The songs we chose were
created in places quite far from another and under very different
circumstances. Some were written and recorded during war times, others in
exile. Despite the differences we think there is a musical connection between
them. Essentially, we are interested in the musical endeavors, in which
artists from the Arab world mixed local and regional influences with musical
interests that came from outside of the region. Even though the name suggests
it's all about funk music, our focus is more than just that. Often these
influences might be inspired from Western popular music such as soul, pop and
rock but it's not limited to that either. Some of our favorite records are
best described as Arabic zouk *a genre originating from the Caribbean islands
of Martinique and Guadeloupe( like Mallek Mohamed's music, Algerian coladera
*a popular musical style from the Cape Verdean islands( or Lebanese AOR,
which means the process of musical influences displayed on this compilation
was much more versatile than just taking Western music as a blueprint and
translating it with a local accent. The compilation features 15 different
artists. Some you might already know thru Habibi Funk's releases like Fadoul,
Ahmed Malek, Dalton or Al Massrieen, while others are meant as an
introduction to artists like Kamal Keila, Sharhabeel Ahmed, Attarazat
Addahabia ^ Mallek Mohamed who will all release full length albums on Habibi
Funk in 2018. In
todays world there are still many stereotypical conceptions to be found when
it comes to the Arab world. Contrary to what a lot of Western narratives and
media suggest, the Arab world we got to know through extensive traveling in
several countries of North Africa and the Middle East, is a very versatile
terrain. A place full of different stories, ideas and beliefs. And we hope
that the music we release helps as a tiny, tiny piece of a larger puzzle to
establish a diverse, more nuanced yet adequate idea of how musically vibrant
this very diverse region once has been and also still is. At the same time we
do not want anyone to misunderstand this compilation as a selection of songs
to represent Arabic musical history of the 1970s and 1980s. This compilation
is nothing more than a very personal curation of songs we like and in no way
reflects on what has been popular in a general sense. All tracks on this
compilation are directly licensed from the artist or, in the case of artists
who are sadly no longer alive, from the artist's family. There are three
exceptions> Hamid Al Shaeri's track was licensed from SLAM! and the tracks
from Belbao and Attarazat Addahabia were both licensed from Boussiphone. As a
European label dealing with non/western artists we try to be aware of the
responsibilities that derive within the making, seen from a post/colonial
point of view by demanding ourselves not to reproduce exploitative economic
patterns. We split all of the profits from our releases equally with the
artists without deducting any costs that are not directly related to the
release .Our agreements are license deals with limited terms after which the
rights fall back to the artist or the artist's families. We think it is
important in today-s reissue market, where too many shady business transactions
happen, to be transparent about our licensing policies. The double vinyl will
have a 12 page booklet in 12" size with the same content. 1.Fadoul /

KINGSTON SOUND

VARIOUS - RUDE BOY SCORCHERS
The Rude Boy moniker has its roots firmly set in the downtown districts of
Kingston, Jamaica. Alongside the regular Ska&Rocksteady sounds coming out
of the sound systems, there was an undercurrent theme to some songs that
spoke of the struggles of the youth, of their confrontation, arrests and run
ins with the establishment. Some of these songs praised the Rude Boys for
their stance and style while other songs were more in contempt with the Rude
Boy's attitiudes, comings ,goings and violent behaviour. For this release we
have put together a set of tunes that the Jamaican Rude Boys would have been
listening to at the sound systems on the lawns and street corners. Not only the
more obvious Rude Boy tunes like unmen Coming to Town' , 'Dreader than
Dread', oon Hop' but also some of the tunes that made the sound systems rock
well into the night. Hope you enjoy the set,,,,, Tracklisting Track 1 FAT MAN

FFO> Spaceslug, Kyuss, Brant Bjork, Type O Negative, Crowbar File
Under> Psychedelic Doom Void Cruiser, an interstellar heavy metal vessel
from Helsinki, Finland. Launched in 2011 as old friends united their sonic
powers. The group started with heavy grunge and headed towards heavy stoner
rock. The debut album Overstaying My Welcome was self/released in 2015 and it
received great reviews and stoner rockers really enjoyed the sound. After the
debut album, the band-s sound began to evolve from the heavy desert rock into
its present state. The heaviness reached a whole new level with the colossal
walls of fuzz, earth tremoring, groovy bass and sturdy riffs, but the
essential element and the soul of the band-s rebirth sonic expression was to
be the forceful ^ melancholic soundscapes combined with the smooth, laid back
vocals. @Wayfarer@ is an epic recording about the Void Cruiser crew-s sonic
voyage in the Andromeda galaxy and an unexpected expedition to the new world.
A Psychedelic Doom&Stoner odyssey where the band blends ambient sounds
and ethereal desert&post/rock vibes for a heavy round of psychedelic
weirdness.

VUELVETELOCA - SONORA
Chilean psych/rock outfit who formed over a decade ago in Santiago and since
then have been busy picking up a notori/ous reputation amongst the ranks of
fellow South American noiseniks Follakzoid and The Holydrug Couple for their
incredible live show. In their lengthy career, the project has been comprised
of a number of different members but has always revolved around the vastly
creative minds of its two core members, Tomas Olivos and Marcos De
Iruarrizaga. With four LP's now behind them, Vuelveteloca are team up with
Fuzz Club for the release of their fifth album, Sonora. Nine tracks of
ferocious *8 tracks on vinyl with 9 downloadable tracks(, rhythmic
psy/chedelia that sounds like a relentlessly motorik mix of Black Sabbath's
doomy stoner rock and the kinetic psychedelic rhythms of modern bands like

DIPLOMATS OF SOLID SOUND - HIP DROP
Based in Iowa City this 7-piece band started as an instrumental ensemble that
released two album. For album #3 they added three female singers to the
line-up (The Diplomettes) which was released on italian label Record Kicks.
The same line-up (almost, one singer left, leaving two) recorded What Comes
Around Goes Around), their full-length masterpiece that is being released
simultaneously with the Stag-O-Lee 45. But both these tracks won't be
featured on the new album, as they are exclusives to this 45. Two cover version,
Hip Drop is a funky little thing written by New orleans legend Eddie Bo and
performed by The Explosions. On the flipside there is the great rhythm &
blues dancer I'm Blue (The Gong-Gong Song) that was a hit for The Ikettes and
of course written by Ike Turner.

AUTOMATIC CITY - ONE BATCH OF BLUES
Engines on. "Commit a Crime", percussion kicks in< pulses and
beats issue from various instruments and objects of everyday life cardboard,
cans and bottles echo in the tape machine. Guitar riffs roar, moan and slide,
saturating the old tweed amplifier's small speaker. Singing, always soulful,
swings between highs and lows, changing moods and modes, to the backbeat of
an ever pounding double bass and the raw strums of acoustic guitar. Recorded
in simple live takes with a handful of microphones, Automatic City stays true
to the founding fathers, to the roots of blues, the raw energy of a stripped
down spontaneous sound, occasionally whisking them away on further musical
explorations. An eclecticism which emerges on "God Moves On The
Water" bringing in sounds of theremin, sitar, berimbau and melodica.
There once were giants, by the names of Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters
and Blind Willie Johnson. They sang stories about lost and found loves, all
night balls, cunning escapes and fateful encounters, churches and boozers,
humanity sailing forth on a doomed ship. "People had to run and
pray" though sometimes whiskey and women wouldn-t let the old boys do
so, but all the folks surely want them to play. All
night long.

DIRT DAUBERS - WAKE UP
As a harmonica player, the Kentucky-based Colonel J.D. Wilkes has recorded
his raw, country-blues style for everyone from Merle Haggard to Mike Patton,
Hank Williams III to his own band the Legendary Shack Shakers. Mixing
acoustic rockabilly, blues, jazz and country into a thrilling frankenstein
hybrid, Wilkes and the Dirt Daubers (named after the southern slang term for
a stingless wasp that builds mud-clumps in the corners of old barns) are
proud to debut their new album Wake Up, Sinners, a collection of raw
originals and covers, recorded together in real time... in a big, live, open
room... the Real Man way! This is ornery, full-throated American music sung
from the gut and shot from the hip. WAKE UP SINNERS!

VARIOUS - BEAT FROM BADSVILLE VOL.4
(2X10")
Brought up on the radio shows of the legendary rock 'n' roll DJs, the
moondogging Alan Freed, Mad Daddy and, later, the ghostly Ghoulardi, it was
hardly surprising that The Cramps' Lux Interior and Poison Ivy began trawling
the thrift stores for juvenile delinquent tunes, lip curling bad boy rock 'n'
roll, strange exotica, bizarre novelty 45s, dysfunctional doo wop,
psychedelic weirdness and instrumentals made by madmen. In America in the
1950s and 1960s there seemed to be small town versions of such vinyl madness
everywhere that, by the 1970s were remaindered and to the majority of people
unwanted. To the fledgling Cramps this was nothing short of heaven. The duo
filled their house with novelty memorabilia, schlock horror furniture and a
record collection to die for. Lux eventually gravitated to his own Purple
Knif Radio show and the Cramps delivered their versions of some of the stuff
they'd found. The duo name-checked many a 45 along the way and seeking them
out and sampling their eccentricities is nothing short of mind blowing. This
24-track collection positively effervesces with eccentricity. Again the vinyl
only double-10" is divided into 4 themes: ,The Rock
'Rollers", ,New Dance Trend", ,Instrumentals" and ,The Mad
Daddies". Every track pirouettes dangerously and at times hap hazardly
around the expected. These are songs for strange times by what can definitely
be considered strange people. Gems and nuggets that sparkle even more bright
in today's manufactured music maelstrom. The population of Badsville welcomes
you aboard. Tracklisting: Side 1. * The Rock

VARIOUS - CARIBBEAN AUDIO ODYSSEY VOL. 1
Caribbean Audio Odyssey is a reflection of Stag-O-Lee's love for early
Jamaican music. When one traces back the roots of ska to the early sound
systems and Mento, it doesn't take a genius to discover calypso. Here's 10
little jewels from the '50s -- recorded in Jamaica, Trinidad, Tobago and
Bermuda. If you don't enjoy 'em, consult a doctor! "CALYPSO, the
infectious rhythms and melodies of the Caribbean area originated in Trinidad.
It is really the musical expression of the Afro-West-Indian population. There
are various explanations for the origin of the word 'calypso,' but it is most
likely that it stems from the African word 'Kaiso,' which means 'bravo.' The
lyrics (in a dialectic English) and the melody are usually made up at the
spur of the moment. The words very often have a double meaning. The topic is
sex, but frequently deals with current events of social and political
happenings. The rhythms are enticing and therefore popular for dancing."
--from the liner notes; Calypso in the Caribbean includes a range of genres,
including: the Benna genre of Antiguan and Barbudan music; Mento, a style of
Jamaican folk music that greatly influenced ska and reggae; ska, the
precursor to rocksteady and reggae; Spouge, a style of Barbadian popular
music; Cadence-lypso, which mixed calypso with the cadence rampa of Haiti and
Dominican traditional music; and soca music, a style of Kaiso/calypso, with
influences from Cadence-lypso, soul, funk and Indian musical instruments.

VARIOUS - FEVER - JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE
SONG VOL
Stag/O/Lee presents a new series called Journey to the Centre of the Song,
celebrating one song at a time, and it's many guises and interpretations.
Linernotes> "I-m not sure what the first version of @Fever@ I ever
heard *hopefully Elvis, probably Bon Jovi( but it has become engrained into
my psyche. This song is covered scores of times a year and has become album
filler for tired artists trying to find that last track before the hand in
date. This belies the history of one of the most sultry song ever written. A
burning, intoxicating and poisonous feeling of yearning, lust and passion
that is ageless and endless. Sexy just doesn-t cover it. It smoulders and
breathes hot sweat on the back of your neck. For a crash course in @Fever@
check out the original Little Willie John and Peggy Lee, Elvis and the Cramps
*a track I have played at the end of almost every Stay Sick clubnight since
2008(. Then listen to this... This collection tries to show the many diverse
guises I have discovered lurking in the darkness. These are the versions
overlooked, and often uncompiled till now. I hope this song infects you like
it has me / But what a lovely way to burn..." Chris Sick STAY SICK !!!

VARIOUS - JUKEBOX FEVER VOL.1 1956 (+CD)
Austerity and order were about to be destroyed. The teenager was being
created in proper Frankenstein style. In the spring of 1956, while Doris Day
charted with her biggest song ever; the gorgeously schmaltzy ue Sera Sera',
"Heartbreak Hotel' - an everyday story of death, misfortune and lost
love - was released. By September the biggest TV show in the US - The Ed
Sullivan Show - was begging Elvis Presley not to shake his hips or pucker his
lips on primetime TV. Nothing would ever be the same again. Rock
' roll had been gestating for some years. A collision of R&B, blues and
hillbilly country, it spawned a monster that, in 1956 had many different
heads and came in a variety of flavours. Jukeboxes all over the globe were
being bent out of shape. Three songs could change everything. Forever. On 1956
we are featuring rare and cool 45s that might have made their way onto a

VARIOUS - MUSIC FROM PLANET EARTH VOL. 2
It's a perennial starting point for conspiracy theories, the perfect excuse
for lost homework or any kind of irrational behavior. Alien intervention
solves everything. Things from other planets are a sustainable reason to many
unanswerable questions and, across the music industry in the late 50s and
early 60s, in the wake of a slew of space-based exploitation movies, a series
of 45s and suitably unearthly concept albums emerged to capitalize on this
burgeoning, bizarre and mysterious idea. Everyone was viewing far off planets
with wonder, amazement and the occasional well-directed sound effect. No-one
really knew what aliens could do, so the potential for music to accompany
whatever they did was limitless.Over 50 years after these sides were released
in a fit of futuristic creativity, we're still asking about the potential of
water on Mars, puzzling of the rings of Saturn and wondering if anything
really did happen at Roswell. "Aliens stole my dog" screams the
headline in the National Enquirer. Of course they did. Tracklisting Side One:
01 - Master Control; 02 - Cees & His Skyliners - Rocking To Telstar; 03 -
Kenny Hollywood - Magic Star; 04 - Unknown Enemy; 05 - Danny Wheeler - Teenie

VARIOUS - TABOO- JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF A
SONG VOL. 1
The series 'Journey To The Centre Of The Song' celebrates one song at a time,
and presents it in many guises and interpretations. This first release in the
series is dedicated to the classic tune 'Tabu', written by Margarita Lecuona
(also responsible for 'Babalu', a classic as well), who was a cousin of the
famous Cuban composer and pianist Ernesto Lecuona. The song, recorded as
'Tabou', 'Tabu' and 'Taboo' is a jazz and popular music standard which was
first recorded by Cuarteto Machin in 1934 and later made popular by The
Lecuona Cuban Boys and others. The aforementioned guises and interpretations
span genres from Charles Blackwell's upbeat surfstrumental shaker to the
brassy exotic tones of Tito Rivera, from the Cumbian island sounds of Cyril
Diaz to Sylvie Moras silky smooth popcorn rendition. The record is completed
by Arthur Lyman's crazy voodoo lounge version that evokes visions of palm
trees and sun-drenched white sand. So sit back and enter the intoxicating
world of ... 'TABOO'. TRACKLIST: Side A. 1. Charles Blackwell Orchestra -

ZINGER, EARL & ROGALL, DON - VOL. 1
Deep down from the swamp delta of Berlin, D.C., and straight outta Gin Lane,
Londinium: The feral stepsons of carpet dealers and long forgotten record
sellers, Don Rogall and Earl Zinger, with their long awaited debut on the
probably best label of the western hemisphere (well, now it is). As Alan
Lomax once said: " I wish i could have done that recordings with Earl
and Don". The music? Rockn Blues, dealing with some nasty boogie, jive
and ingredients of exotic origin - a new breed of juke joint anthems. Earl
Zingers biography would fill books: Poet, mountebank, musician, physician,
beast showman, and to some extent diviner and sorcerer, he is also the orator
of the public marketplace, the man adored by the crowd to whom he offers his
songs and couplets. Questions of morals and politics, toothache, pious
legends, scandalous tales about priests, noble ladies, and cavaliers, gossip
of grog shops, and news from the Holy Land are all in his domain. Rogall has
been around, too. Jimmy Castor himself told him once to continue with the
music - and theres even a John Lee Hocker tune, "Messin with Don".
His music straight from the Underground, not quite complete unless you can
visualize the dancers who respond to it: the solo exhibitionists like the
cigar-puffing, rubber-legged man and the woman whose pelvic grinding would
shame any burlesque queen, and this amid a room filled with thrusting,
swaying couples including, invariably, one in which a young man's joyous
movement is gradually breaking down the shy reserve of his partner - shouting
out loud: "Rock'n'Rogall !" All efforts have been made to make this
release possible, it took years to distill these tunes out of live
performances and studio recordings. Already solid hits in the Berlin
underground, these releases on Stag-O-Lee are a document of something that
otherwise would have been left to the "oral culture" -
forever. Take your chance and get your hands on these.

AUTOMATIC CITY - BONGOS & TREMOLOES (+CD)
Following up the band-s first album of raw, uncut blues, -One Batch Of
Blues-, Automatic City takes a bold step towards bongo percussion, voodoo and
Caribbean rhythms, space echoed jumpin- blues, and tremolo and slide guitar
vibrations, while still keeping the sound rough and gritty. A notable fact is
that the band uses unusual /for the genre/ instruments s.a. sanza, odd
percussions, and primitive electronic devices such as the stylophone,
theremin, or Rhythm Ace drum machine.

BIG JOHN BATES - BANGTOWN
3-piece from Vancouver with a wyld live show featuring two burlesque dancers.
Active since 2001 Bangtown is their 5th album. From the very first notes of
"Fill Your Tank," this band lets you know that you are in for a
high-octane musical experience. OK, but what does that really mean, you ask.
Well, you've got Bates, who plays guitar parts that border punkabilly and
blues. Then there is the driving rhythm section of sCare-oline on the
doghouse bass and JT Brander on drums. Add backing vocals by Jenn Chycoski
and Little Miss Risk in a cabaret style. Now blend all those parts in some
very uptempo tunes and what you have is a general overview of Bangtown.

CANDI STATION - WHO'S HURTING NOW?
Her secular comeback in 2006, His Hands, was truly spectacular. Candi Staton,
who had spent the past two decades in the church, had lost none of her
ability to articulate the explosive passions and pains within, on seemingly
autobiographical compositions that sizzled with Southern soul intensity.
Neither had her earthy rasp tarnished with age, instead it burned with the
same desire and ache that defined her work for Fame and Capitol... now three
years on comes the follow-up, and rather wondrously Who's Hurting Now? is
just as vital as its predecessor, filled with more exceptionally written
songs about heartbreak, redemption and regret.

EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN - ENDE NEU
On their 1996 release Ende Neu (ending-new), the quintessential scientists of
the post-avant-garde abstain from focusing on listener disintegration tactics
as they did on prior albums, but opt instead to hone their craftsmanship in
new compositional areas. Some followers of their earlier material might
object to the obvious and comparatively conventional song structure and style
that is displayed on Ende Neu -- picking up a power tool to highlight a piece
rather than centering the entire work around it, or leaving a stage before
setting it ablaze -- but the destruction has already been performed, and now
they are erecting the brave new anti-building of musical art. Exploring
intricate processions of time and toying with melodious harmonies, Blixa
Bargeld and Co. seem to have matured gracefully. The opening cut, "Was
ist ist," is a furious, fast-paced slander on the constant wanting of
mankind while simultaneously serving as a tongue-in-cheek remark on how
absolute, scientific power overrules impossibility. From there, Ende Neu
continues to musically rewrite the band's style, using familiar topics such
as ethereal chaos ("Die Explosion Im Festspielhaus"), cosmic
complacency ("The Garden"), revolt ("Installation No.1"),
and even a Kafka-esque piece, "Der Schacht Von Babel." This is the
first release since the departure of founding band member Mark Chung, and it
is obvious that the remaining members have taken the time to contribute to
the void left by his departure. Ende Neu delivers a precision-fed matrix of
audio-encrypted knowledge in a manner not like the chaotic Neubauten of the
early '80s, but more strategic, and more mature.

Like watching a stalker cleverly follow its prey for miles, only to watch it
shy away just short of lodging a knife into the back of the followed, FAuf
der Nach Oben Offenen Richterskala (Five on the Open-Ended Richter-Scale) is
Einstnde Neubauten at their unsettling, gripping, and tension-ridden best. It
was also the group's most subdued and measured work to that point, organic
dark ambient that rarely utilized the chaos and cacaphony for which they had
become known. You expect the big release during the closer, "Kein

EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN - HALBER MENSCH
Though it's a bit less intentionally noisy than previous Neubaten material,
Mensch is, in a way, the group's masterpiece. The inspired use of such
"traditional" instruments as a grand piano alongside the band's
characteristic blazing percussion make for a record similar more to their
compositional influences like Stockhausen than their nearest contemporaries,
Throbbing Gristle or Cabaret Voltaire. The record that showed Einstnde
Neubaten could rise above the concept of noise for its own sake to reach
another level of noise-oriented post-punk music, Mensch is an excellent feat
of industrial music.

EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN - HAUS DE LUGE
The final Einsturzende album of the 1980s found the group wrapping up that
decade on a high note; while Haus der Luege barely lasts over half an hour,
it's designed for maximum impact, and that it creates. The seasoned
five-person lineup clatters and bangs away with fire, though the focus is
more on straightforward industrial-tinged rock, as opposed to full-on
industrial banging and relentless sonic experimentation. Things fully fire
after an alternating voice/noise "Prolog" with "Feurio!,"
one of the band's strongest singles. With an ominous death-disco rhythm
stop-starting under it all, swirling wails and cries in the mix, and sudden
guitar lines filling out the sound, Bargeld's declamatory vocal approach in
full effect. It's perhaps one of the most "industrial dance" songs
the group's ever done, but it feels like a logical conclusion of their sound
rather than a sudden embrace of Wax Trax! esthetics. Equally impressive is
the title track, starting with a soft chime before turning into a dangerously
funky aggro-crawl. Much of the album's second half is taken up by the lengthy
"Fiat Lux," broken into three separate sections. Low in volume and
astonishingly subtle until its final, overtly rhythmic conclusion, it's a
testament to Einsturzende's abilities at the opposite end of where they are
most often stereotyped as working, ambient instead of full-on noise.
Bargeld's singing and a soft, central keyboard loop provides the main hooks
for the piece, even when an array of random samples and noises starts
surfacing about halfway through the track. Add in some blunt, interesting
cover art and an appreciative essay from writer Biba Kopf, and Haus der Luege
is another Einsturzende success.

EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN - ZEICHNUNGEN DES
PATIENTEN O.T.
Einstnde Neubauten's second album, 1983's Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T.
(Drawings of Patient O.T.), is less extreme than their 1981 debut, but it's
still a challenging listen. The title comes from the drawings of Oswald
Tschirtner, a Swiss mental patient whose work is prized by collectors of
"outsider artists," and the comparison is apt. Einstnde Neubauten's
music has the same bizarre leaps of logic and random connections that one
finds in that sort of visual or verbal art, although starting with this
album, the music is just controlled and sculpted enough to reveal that yes,
the group does know exactly what they're doing. Many of the pieces are more
songlike than the group's earlier work, with actual melodies encoded in the
banging and howling, and a couple tracks that could even be called almost
pretty. "Armenia" is the highlight, based on an Eastern European
folk song form and featuring some long, droning, sustained notes that are
similar to what some European post-minimalist composers (Gavin Bryars,
Michael Nyman, etc.) were doing around the same time. Zeichnungen des
Patienten O.T. is the best balance between Einstnde Neubauten's chaotic early
work and the more refined albums to come, and is possibly their best work.

Typica&y based on centuries-old rhythms, with the traditional sabar drums
and tamas (talking drums) at its core, it is d'ply r!ted in Senegambia's
ancient griot culture while being open to modern influences like electrified
guitars and ba) and marimba synths. There is no distance betw'n the
traditional and the modern. Jeri-Jeri in its local context is the name of
master percu)ionist Bakane Seck's own clan of dru(ers; here it designates a
p!l of distinguished Mbalax musicians a)embled by Mark Ernestus with Seck's
help and guidance. The musicians and singers featured in the project
represent this music at its very best, a& bringing their own unique
styles, yet with the discipline to play as part of one entity without the n'd
to stick out. The music could be described as a intricate mesh of interacting
yet diverse elements, or a ma)ive wa& of rhythm that has not one dominating
gr!ve but is soaked through with micro gr!ves, that has not one obvious focal
point yet through its interwoven layers o,ers many points of focus. Advanced
and complex polyrhythms, mercile)ly beaten out on drums playing synchronously
or against each other with extreme precision, yet wild and at times s'mingly
l!se or even on the brink of chaos. The stringent repetitivene) combined with
the rhythmic complexity and interwove%e) is what a"racted Mark Ernestus
to Mbalax, eventua&y culminating in this project. Mark may be known and
we&-regarded for his work in the realms of techno and dub but this should
not obscure the fact that the over-riding sensibility of his work, whether it
be with Basic Cha%el, Rhythm & Sound or his recent remixes, is one of repetition
and reduction. In his role as producer, a-anger and mixer in this project,
rather than pre"ifying the music for non-local audiences, his a+roach is
to sharpen the focus on the raw e)entials of the musical form, in order to
let it shine through in its most undiluted form.

EXCELLOS - RISE UP
The Excellos deliver a solid brand of rockin- blues that-d be rough, tough
and hard to bluff for any other band raised this side of the pond! Gaining
their name from the famous 1950s American blues record label, these guys play
with the authority and gusto of a blues band that grew straight out of the
Mississippi mud! Hailing from good ol- London, they have wowed the crowds at
many joints all over the world.

FALCO, TAV & PANTHER BURNS - SUGAR DITCH
REVISITED/THE SHAKE RAG (2LP)
The Tav Falco Panther Burns reissue/remaster-series, part II! This one
contains the Sugar Ditch Revisited EP (1985) and The Shake Rag EP (1986).
Plus a previously unreleased 11-song/45 minute live show from the Messepalast
Vienna from 1989. Pristine recording by the ORF. Limited edition 2x180 gram
heavyweight vinyl. Foldout-cover featuring the original 12"-sleeves.
Full colour printed innersleeves featuring extensive liner notes by Tav Falco
himself. Stickered mentioning its contents. The master of a raw and shambolic
fusion of rockabilly, blues, and fractured noise, Falco was, along with the
Cramps, one of the earliest purveyors of what would come to be known as
psychobilly (though his version of the sound lacked the campy horror movie
ambience others brought to it), and he anticipated the fractured but
hard-hitting blues wailing of the Gories and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion by
close to a decade.

HACKE, ALEXANDER & PICCIOTTO, DANIELLE DE
- PERSEVERANTIA (+CD)
An interesting release featuring the couple of Danielle de Picciotto *Love
Parade( and Alexander Hacke *a.o. Einstürzende Neubauten(, who both are
members of Crime And The City Solution. The album was recorded in the
Californian Mojave desert and is mostly instrumental, with a few spoken word
sections from Danielle and some throat/singing by Alexander. These vocal
parts, the purring and squeaking of the hurdy/gurdy, an ether/plucking harp,
melancholic violin melodies and the hum and growl of bass and guitar, all
place the listener in an acoustic world of mysteries. This
LP includes a free CD/version.

JAH BATTA - ARGUMENT
Tony O'Meally aka Jah Batta is the Bullwackies acolyte featured recently with
Rhythm & Sound on the Burial Mix single Music Hit You. On this album from
1983 his buoyant deejaying follows Lone Ranger's massive revival of U-Roy's
legacy. Upful dancehall vibes address topics such as vegetarianism, skin
colour, school, good old-fashioned rocking the mic. One toast laments Batta's
girlfriend running off with Sugar Minott. And the album is a must even for
its rhythms alone: basically top-notch Youth Promotion material from Channel
One in JA, overdubbed and remixed at White Plains Road in the Bronx, with
contributions from Sly & Robbie, and Bagga and Jackie Mittoo from
Brentford Road, alongside Wackies regulars. Version excursions include Sugar
originals like Informer and Jezzreel's Stop Playing Tricks, Bob Marley's Too
Much Trouble, and deadly do-overs of Studio One cornerstones like Throw Me
Corn and Real Rock. Do it, Jah! Flash it!

JOHNSTON, RICHARD - FOOT HILL STOMP
Richard Johnston comes from the hill country of Northern Mississippi and
usually performs on Beale Street in Memphis as a one-man band. After the
death of Junior Kimbrough Richard (a white guy!) filled the gap and continued
to play Junior's Juke Joint on Saturdays with Junior's various sons and nephews
(The Soul Blues Boys) providing the backing. This is a reissue of the ten
year old debut, self-released at the time. It since has vanished and still
kicks ass big time. Hypnotic, rowdy and rockin' Trance-Blues at it's best!
Vintage Fat Possum sound! Featuring Jesse Mae Hemphill, Cedric Burnside and

LEGENDARY SHACK SHAKERS - AGRI DUSTRIAL
Right in time for their reunion Stag-O-Lee releases 'Agri.Dustrial' on vinyl
for the first time. The album features a new track, a new running order and a
proper vinyl remastering. A roots rock juggernaut from Nashville, TN, the
Legendary Shack Shakers are a hot-rodded foursome combining blues,
rockabilly, country, and rock & roll into one manic assemblage boasting
all the gloriously explosive instability of an M-80. Fronted by the manic JD
Wilkes, who when not busy with music (he also leads the Dirt Daubers) is also
known as a visual artist, publishing comic books and creating elaborate "carnival
art" murals on discarded roll-up projection screens.

OSWALD, MORTIZ VON TRIO - FETCH (2LP)
Recorded in August 2011, Fetch finds von Oswald, Loderbauer and Ripatti in a
darker and more driving mood than on previous albums. Joined by ECM's Marc
Muellbauer on bass (from second album Horizontal Structures) and Tobias
Freund (for the first time since debut Vertical Ascent), to add live effects
in real time, they laid down the foundations swiftly, with the entire
recording completed in around four hours. Later, instrumental overdubs were
added by Jonas Schoen (flute, bass clarinet, saxophone) and trumpeter
Sebastian Studnitzky.

PERKINS, CHUCK - A LOVE SONG FOR NOLA (2LP)
Nola is a short form for New Orleans, LA. And the guy who sings a hymn for
the city in Louisiana is Chuck Perkins. Hes the Poet Laureate of the
Mississippi metropolis and combines his spoken word art with an angry
introspective and a sometimes breathtaking speed. On this album Perkins is
accompanied by his band Voices Of The Big Easy, that fuses his poetry with
different musical genres. The baldheaded jazz poet is a magnet to the musical
talents of the city and unites what makes New Orleans special: local jazz
musicians, African drummers, Latin dancers, poets, Mardi Gras Indians,
singers as well as renowned musicians like Trombone Shorty, Wayne Shorter and
Umar Bin Hassan.

Originally released in 1980, this album is the final work to emerge from the
Black Ark studio, before its permanent destruction. It concludes a series of
such LP masterworks as Super Ape, War In A Babylon, Police And Thieves, and
The Return Of The Super Ape. Enthrallingly, it crosses the soundworld of
Roast Fish Collie Weed And Cornbread with new hybrids - like the irresistible
elevenminute opener, rolling and delirious, a kind of reggae prophesy of
Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing, but musically richer, and more glazed, randy
and visionary.

PINCH & SHAKLETON - PINCH & SHAKLETON
(2XLP)
The two dubstep pioneers at the top of their game. The deadly concision, the
rhythmic punch and dramatic timing, the spry, side-to- side detailing of a
cavernous stage, the crisp-biscuit vocal sampling and Middle Eastern
percussion - their sound signatures are not so much totalled as squared.
Truly an album, the music is multi-levelled - dark as anything at times, but
engrossingly varied and emotionally shaded, always on the move. For The Wire
this month, in a full-page review - 'a labyrinthine collaboration that
rebuilds the dialectics of dubstep... a beguilingly well-delivered statement
in a dialect that was sidelined in favour of the cult of bass or the
fluorescent synths. A powerful retort to the comparatively crude
hyperactivity of the post-dubstep landscape and a well-timed lesson in
sophistication.'

THOMPSON, ROY & THE MELLOW KINGS - 20 DAYS
Roy Thompson & The Mellow Kings is a Rockin' Rhythm & Blues band from
France. The six musicians are all experienced veterans from the Rockin' Scene
and well versed in roots, blues and rock'n'roll . After several years in
Canada, where in 2003 Roy Thompson set up a band called Roy Thompson &
His Royal Acadians and some tours in Canada, USA and Europe Roy (known as
Olivier Laporte to his mom) decided to go back to Europe in 2005 and founded
The Mellow Kings in 2010. Their influences range from Blues to Rhythm &
Blues, from Swing to Rockin' 50's/early 60's sounds. Songs by artists such as
Ike Turner, Ray Charles, T-Bone Walker, Larry Williams, Little Richard, Young
Jessie, Junior Watson, Bobby Blue Bland and the Memphis sound, Freddie King,
Johnny Otis, Guitar Junior and the Louisiana Style are in the Mellow Kings'
live repertoire as well as many self-penned tunes. In 2012 they released
their first album Back On Tracks which was released by Sleazy Records out of
Spain. Promoting that album they played all the big festivals such as the
Rockin' Race in Spain, Rhythm Riot in England, Live & Jive Festival in
Sweden, Cahors Blues Festival in France, Rock n Roll Festival in Disneyland
Paris, Tremblay Blues in Paris, American Festival in Tours, the Rockin' Horse
Festival in Limoges, Blues en Loire in France, the Moondogs Festival and the
Summer Jamboree in Italy, Let's Get Wild Festival in Germany and The
Firebirds Festival in Leipzig and gigs in Switzerland, Italy, Belgium,
Holland, Germany, England, Sweden and Spain... a huge tour in Europe backing
up Gizzelle, the California Soul Diva from Los Angeles, in November 2013,
July 2014 and August 2015 + Turnhout Festival in Belgium, Vintage Roots
Festival in Milano, Festi Jump Blues in France, and Get Rhythm Go Wild in
Germany. You get the idea... In the meantime new recordings were made which
are being released on the German based Stag-O-Lee label in January 2016. The
title of the album is 20 Days and it features tunes by Mike Pedicin, Little
Richard, Bobby Bland, Aaron Neville, Otis Blackwell as well as a number of
band compositions. In general the sound of the new album could be filed under
New Breed -a kinda new genre that defines the music made between the late 50s
and early 60s when Rhythm & Blues slowly morphed into Soul.It is a
rockin' record with lots of sizzlin' guitars, great piano work and a powerful
sax! The band's masterpiece so far. Go check it out!

VARIOUS - DIRTY LAUNDRY (2XLP)
This anthology is a collection of black approaches to Country music. It not
only wants to reveal long forgotten treasures of music history, and shed light
on the often neglected Country roots of Soul stars, but put Afro-American
Country musicians into a context beyond their genre. The main aim is to
question implicit truths. Is there something like white and black music?
Aren't Country and Soul music much closer than their categorization by media,
video channels and record companies would suggest? And who would maintain
that the songs on this album didn't have Soul? Tracklist 1. WASHINGTON,ELLA:

The album you now hold in your hands is nothing short of the greatest tribute
album ever recorded. Nowhere in history have as many legendary performers
appeared on one record, for the purpose of saluting another artist. In this
case, the artist is the band that instigated the 80s Garage revival that
continues to today - The Fuzztones. Preaching the Garage (and Psych) gospel
since their inception in 1980, The Fuzztones influenced countless bands
worldwide with their enigmatic image, high velocity performance and
personalized interpretations. Fact is, even if The Fuzztones had never written
a song in their long and illustrious career, they succeeded in accomplishing
something much more important, even profound - the resurrected a music style
that had only existed from (roughly) 1966 to 1967, and through relentless
touring and recording, kept it alive for over 33 years. Initially, the bands
mission was to introduce this long-lost music to the world, and did so by
covering obscure classics, many by artists who appear on this album.
"When the Beatles and Stones started out, they covered a lot of Motown
and blues stuff, in an attempt to turn people on to it," points out head
Fuzztone, Rudi Potrudi, "and thats what we wanted to do as well."
The music they chose to cover was so obscure that most of their audience
assumed they were originals, and the band could easily have kept it that way.
Instead, Rudi joined forces with Germanys Music Maniac label and released the
album, 'Songs We Taught The Fuzztones', a collection of original versions of
songs made famous by The Fuzztones. This record, released in 1993, turned
Fuzztones fans on to the original artists, hence beginning the 'purist'
movement that eventually spawned the emergence of reunited 60s Garage and
Psych legends, as well as events such as Cavestomp, which brought them and
their newfound fan base together. But The Fuzztones are much more than a
cover band. Their original material bears their own distinctive sound - which
owes as much to Chuck Berry, Bo Didley, the Stooges and the Doors, as to the
60s Garage and Psych they obviously adore. When you hear The Fuzztones,
theres no mistaking them for someone else. This album is the last of a
three-part trilogy of Fuzztones tribute albums that began with
"Fuzztones Illegitimate Spawn1" and its successor "2".
Collections featured bands from all around the world, paying homage to the
band that inspired them. Now we come full circle with a collection of
Fuzztones classics, covered by the legendary bands that inspired The
Fuzztones in the first place.Ladies and Gents, The Holy Grail: In Fuzz We

VARIOUS - LAGOS CHOP UP (2XLP)
Fela's success in the West has hidden from view the diversity of modern Nigerian
music. Like Lagos All Routes, whilst Chop Up sets out to put things in
perspective - ranging across styles from the mid-sixties to the early
eighties - musically it is mind-boggling. Here, there is juju, apala,
afrofunk, highlife. Some breathtaking classic fuji - raw Muslim street music
- for twenty-five years now the real soundtrack of Lagos youth. And the
Afrobeat tracks include one of the best you'll ever hear - thirteen minutes
of Shina WIlliams And His African Percussions.

VARIOUS - NEVER THE SAME 2XLP
Never The Same celebrates the lost years of British folk: the 1970s. As far
as mass popularity goes, the folk scene peaked in the 1960s - with Bert
Jansch, Anne Briggs, Martin Carthy, Davy Graham and all. By the end of the
sixties, according to conventional wisdom, it had morphed into folk rock
(Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span) or singer-songwriting (Nick Drake and
John Martyn), prior to disappearing into a netherworld of beards and real
ale. But what the pop histories don't tell you is that the seventies were the
real golden years for British folk music. The scene had gone underground,
disappeared into the now totally unfashionable world of the folk clubs, but
the musicians who'd come up in the heady years of the sixties hadn't gone
away - they were just getting better and better. The trouble was the major
record labels weren't interested, not even the more folk-friendly indies like
Island and Transatlantic. There was one exception, a man called Bill Leader. Leader
was the man who had been behind the mixing desk on almost every major British
folk record of the sixties, from Anne Briggs' first EP to Davy Graham's Anji
to Bert Jansch's bedroom debut. In 1969, seeing a yawning gap in the market,
he finally started his own label. Some of the names he signed up were already
familiar on the folk scene - like Lal and Mike Waterson from the legendary
singing family The Watersons. Most, however, were new names, emerging stars
from the folk club scene. There was Dick Gaughan, a shy Scotsman who had to
be talked into making records; and Nic Jones from Essex, who was close to
giving up the unequal struggle to make a living from music when Leader signed
him up. Over the next ten years Leader put out a series of albums at a standard
unmatched by any other major folk label. Not all of it was straight
traditional folk. Leader was always open to experimentation and released
albums as varied as the psych folk of Dave and Toni Arthur, the
singer-songwriting of Rosie Hardman, and the elaborate arrangements of John
Tams' Muckram Wakes. He also released the song suite Bright Phoebus by Lal
and Mike Waterson; and two of the songs here represent this lost classic. But
at the heart of the label's output were very simple virtues: great singers
and great instrumentalists playing and singing the traditional music of
Britain. So here, for the first time, is a compilation of the lost wonders of
the Leader label, repository of the hidden history of British folk music.

VARIOUS - PLEASE DON'T FREEZE! (2LP)
"Long before Elvis rolled his pelvis, the Rolling Stones coopted the
Mississippi-Blues and legions of white bands made their electrified guitars
roar, black Blues-, Gospel- and Jazz-artists had laid the cornerstone for the
musical revolution, that would profoundly shatter the western world: Rock'n
Roll. Much less known than their white imitators, nonetheless they produced
the grittier originals: As performers, who combined the archaic drive of the
Blues with Country-melodies and the feverish beat of black Gospel services,
and pepped up African-sounding rhythms with electric amplification in order
to please their audience and its steady hunger for new thrills and sound

VARIOUS - REGGAE GOODIES VOL.2
Both volumes of Reggae Goodies came out around 1977 on Bullwackies' City Line
imprint (which celebrated the NY subway track ending at White Plains Road,
and Wackies' headquarters). They are based on a compilation of 7"
A-sides which had appeared over the previous few years also on labels like
Versatile, Rawse and Senrab. Volume 2 derives more from Wackies' Sounds
Unlimited Studios in New York, and aims rather for the Lovers in the dance.
Ad hoc lineups like Wanachi (with Jah Jah's Call also appearing on Creation
Dub) and the Chosen Brothers - here it may be Lloyd Barnes with Wayne Jarrett
on one track, and Leroy Sibbles on another - appear alongside regulars like
'Jah Junior' Delahaye, K.C. White, and those 'three attractive young
beauties' The Love Joys - with a different mix of their version of The
Abyssinians' Sweet Feelings than turns up on their debut album. 'REGGAE
GOODIES, it's more than just an album. It's an experience which can only be
shared by you. Get your copy now... There'll never be another of its kind.'

VARIOUS - SLOW GRIND FEVER VOL. 3
"Being a part time DJ whose fave musical period is the decade between
1953 and 1963 one can dig forever in a bottomless pit of great danceable
uptempo tunes. Even after years and years of bringing new and exciting tunes
to light there still are new finds every day who fill the dancefloors around
the world for fans young and old. We're talking rhythm & blues and the
phase in the early 60s when it morphed into soul (now called new nreed), as
well as the genre that nowadays is labeled Popcorn - a mid-tempo style with a
high groove-factor that was created in Belgium (of all places). The 'Slow
Grind Fever' series was created after stumbling over a clubnight in Australia
via the internet: Melbourne's only slow dance party, where they play the
slowest, spookiest, sweetest records they can find, and folks dance real slow
in a haze of smoke and dim red light. Well, what a concept! The
Soundcloud-mixes the three DJs posted pretty quickly convinced the Stag-O-Lee
chief that this is very exciting and after a few mails with the guys who run
the Melbourne night the 'Slow Grind Fever 'series was born. TRACK LISTING

WHITE, SIMONE - SILVER SILVER
Silver Silver is LA-based singer-songwriter Simone White's most affecting and
ambitious album yet. In contrast to her folk/country-tinged 2007 debut, I Am
The Man, and 2009's quiet offering, Yakiimo, Silver Silver has White's soft
voice framed by complex arrangements: there are pulsing, speaker-rattling
bass tones, delicately layered vocal harmonies, and exquisitely lush washes
of sound. It is also the singer's most personal record to date: lot of
stuff happened during the production. Two deaths, a breakup. fell in love.
'Fans of White's work may already be aware of her unusual life story. Born in
Hawaii to a light-sculptor dad and folk-singer mum, burlesque grandmother and
pop-song-writing aunt, White grew up moving across the US, her parents
following the demands of a cult leader. Leaving home in her teens, White
travelled, acted, took photos and made films, living in Seattle, Paris and
Londonfinally finding her voice as a musician in New York City.
