AFROINS, LOS - A GOZAR SALSOMANOS

Repress! By 1974, salsa was taking Colombia by storm and so the directors of the INS label decided to create a band that would appeal to salsa fanatics and be able to compete with labels such as Discos Fuentes and Codiscos. Thus was born Los Afroins, an obscure, short-lived combo that would release two LPs and six 45s. Their first album, "A gozar salsomanos", is a sought-after collector's item and contains ten brassy, heavy-duty salsa gems: covers of salsa hits by Ismael Rivera, Los Ahijados, Roberto De La Barrera, Cheo Marquetti and even the smash pop hit by the French modern classical and electronic music composer Saint-Preux (a great instrumental descarga version of 'Concierto para una sola voz'). In addition, there are two originals that are equally hot. INS artistic director Alfredo Linares, the famed Peruvian keyboardist and composer, oversaw the project and guested on piano for several tracks, doing some arranging as well. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl. Part of a new Vampisoul reissue series of classic LPs from Colombia's INS label.

TRACKLIST Side 1 1. EL NAZARENO 2. AFROINSPIRACION 3. VIRGEN DE LA CUEVA 4. CONGA "E" 5. CUIDATE Side 2 1. ORGULLOSA 2. SABROSON 3. APRIÉTALA 4. GUAYO, PELLIZCO Y PATA 5. CONCIERTO PARA UNA SOLA VOZ

AFROINS, LOS - GOZA LA SALSA

Repress! Los Afroins was the flagship salsa band of the obscure but beloved INS label from Colombia. Their 1975 LP "Goza La Salsa" is just as hard to find as their first record, and contains 10 bright and sassy salsa dura treasures that light up the dance floor with their incessant rhythms, syncopated trumpets and trombone and buoyant melodies. There are smoking covers of hits by Panama's Bush y sus Magníficos ('Salsa Al Pindin') and Bronx timbalero Orlando Marín and His Orchestra ('Está De Bala') as well as updated renditions of old Cuban chestnuts 'La Masacre' (written by Joseíto Fernández of 'Guantanamera' fame) and 'Matusa' (originally titled 'Macusa', composed by Francisco Repilado aka Compay Segundo). The entire record makes for a very tasty and satisfying party platter filled with guaguancó, mozambique, pachanga, descarga and bolero that deserves to be more accessible and better known by today's fans of Colombian salsa who may have heard of The Latin Brothers or Sonora Carruseles, but have yet to discover the short/lived but highly sought after Los Afroins. "Goza La Salsa" is presented here in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

TRACKLIST Side 1 1. LA MASACRE (Joseíto Fernández) 2. SALSA AL PINDIN (Francisco Buckley "Bush") 3. EL BOMBON (Benjamín, Roy) 4. PUERTO RICO POWER (Luis E Mosquera) 5. ANA Y JAIME - DIRE A MI GENTE

"Diré a mi gente" is a 1969 Colombian pop classic with one foot in protest song and the other in acid rock, harsh sounding but also current and sincere. The rawness of the lyrics, the simple and dynamic electrified instrumentation and the contrast with the sweetness and innocence of the adolescent vocals make it reminiscent of Nadaism via Pablus Gallinazo, the bittersweet tenderness of Elia y Elizabeth and the post Los Yetis duet of Norman y Darío. First time vinyl reissue. Liner notes by Mexican DJ and collector Carlos Icaza aka Tropicaza (Dublab / Worldwide FM).

BEN VAUGHN COMBO - THE MANY MOODS OF BEN VAUGHN COMBO

Ben Vaughn's unstylized singing and guitar is filtered through his quirky sense of humor, resulting a collection of clever lyrics and catchy tunes scented with vintage aroma. When "The Many Moods Of Ben Vaughn Combo" appeared in 1986, the Combo literally had the world at its feet. Many of the hits you hear when you see him (and the Quintet) today are on this platter. It sounds just as fresh today as it did back then and sees now its first reissue in 35 years

BILLY BAO - LAGOS SESSIONS

"Basque-based group Billy Bao travelled to the former Nigerian capital to record a four part ode to the city... These are sound collages, taking snippets of work from local sound artist Emeka Ogboh, former Fela sidesman Duro Ikujenyo and Afro jazz saxophonist Orlando Julius, and melding them coarsely with ambient backing... Billy Bao and co manage to capture the love, affection and unavoidable (unmistakeable) frustration that Lagos evokes." Lanre Bakare, The Wire "Lagos Sessions" featuring: Billy Bao, Ambido, Diana Bada, Duro Ikujenyo, Mark Ido, Oduyomi Isaiah Oluseye, Joel Isioma Okoh, Orlando Julius, Mendo, Emeka Ogboh. BLAKE, TIM - CRYSTAL MACHINE (2LP)

Hold your body and mind belts, and immerse yourself into a cornerstone of cosmic music in a double remastered vinyl - one them filled with rarities - called "Crystal Machine" by the visionary Tim Blake, English composer and synthesizer master. Recorded in 1976/7, it remains echoing as a timeless effort, pretty much still alive. This is a deadly serious art piece, accordingly trippy in all its aspects, full of strangeness and sheer beauty.

CEVASCO, ADALBERTO - PAJAROS ELECTRICOS

Former member of Rodolfo Alchourrón and Gato Barbieri's bands, Cevasco's first solo effort is a combination of fusion jazz with a pinch of unexpected Brazilian flavours and electronic sounds that now, more than 30 years after the original release of the album, still evoke a refreshing feel of modernity in the same vein as many other experimental Argentine and Uruguayan artists from the same era. Includes guest appearances from artists such as Litto Nebbia or Ruben Rada. Reissued on vinyl for the first time, including insert with liner notes and previously unseen photos.

COMBO LOS YOGAS - CAÑABRAVA

Repress! Combo Los Yogas was a short-lived early Colombian salsa band from Medellín directed and arranged by Aníbal José Angel Echeverri, the famous antioqueño keyboardist known as Aníbal Angel or simply Anán. Employing Barranquilla native Johnny Moré as his lead vocalist and a full combo with trumpet, trombone, congas and timbales, Los Yogas recorded a fantastic collection of cover tunes in the guaguancó, son, guajira, descarga, and cha-cha-chá rhythms. The sound is very raw and hard, something that makes this obscure 1968 Discos Fuentes record a sought-after collector's item. Thanks to the inherent quality and execution of its repertoire, "Cañabrava" provides a wonderful snapshot of the influences and early development of the genre of salsa in 1960s Colombia. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl. Over the past few years we have been fortunate to work with Discos Fuentes on several projects compiled from their rich catalogue, and we are continuing our collaboration with the legendary Colombian label with a series of facsimile reissues of classic Fuentes LPs. Starting with "Cañabrava" by Combo Los Yogas, the upcoming months will bring new pressings of albums by Fruko y sus Tesos, Lisandro Meza y su Conjunto, Peregoyo y su Combo Vacaná, Pedro Laza y sus Pelayeros and many more...

CORRALEROS DE MAJAGUAL, LOS - ESTA SI ES SALSA!

"Ésta sí es salsa!" is one of the most sought-after records in the impressive catalog of the Discos Fuentes tropical all-star group Los Corraleros de Majagual. The record is high on collectors' want lists for many reasons: excellent sound quality, diverse and highly danceable repertoire infusing its grooves, and the inclusion of the Cuban genres of descarga and charanga. The album includes outstanding cover versions of '60s New York salsa but featuring the unusual sound of the accordion and the heavy bass playing of Julio Estrada.

DESUMANOS - DESUMANOS

Desumanos' fresh mixture of guitar driven melodies is as evocative as it is playful. From their native Brazil, the band casts uncompromising surf scents on a handful of songs that also drop in the mix African rhythms, cumbia and lambada. This instrumental project is made up of a dream-team of producers and musicians: Kassin (bass), who was member of The +2's and co-produced Gilles Peterson's Brazilian project Sonzeira, and former Os Mutantes member Liminha (guitar), as well as Felipe and Manoel Cordeiro (guitar), one of the lambada originators, and Stephane San Juan (drums), currently playing with David Byrne.

EMPIRE - EXPENSIVE SOUND

Empire was an offshoot of punk legends Generation X, very influential for the '80s Washington D.C. hardcore and UK neo-psychedelic scenes, acting somehow as the missing link between new wave and grunge. "Expensive Sound" was originally released in 1981, their music was raw, bare, warm - distinct from the glacial, antiseptic pop that would dominate the decade. While "Expensive Sound" may be better known for the bands it inspired - the neo-psychedia of The Stone Roses and the athletic fretwork of Fugazi - they deserve appreciation on its own merits: one of the finest guitar pop records of the era.

FOWLEY, KIM - LIVING IN THE STREETS

Kim Fowley has been a maverick presence in rock & roll history for over fifty years: songwriter, recordings with Gene Vincent, Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers and countless others, early manager of The Runaways and plenty of glorious failures along the way. "Living In The Street" (1977) is a compilation of his solo recordings, some of them dating back to the beginning of the decade, taken from several singles, alternative projects and overlooked b/sides. It also includes three new acoustic songs with a certain Captain Beefheart's or Dylanesque flavor. "Living in the Streets" remains a worthy monument to the seventies recordings of the Dorian Gray of Rock'n'Roll, the human jukebox: the unstoppable Kim Fowley. This is the first ever vinyl reissue and includes an insert with extensive notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things Magazine) and features its original artwork. This reissue is a collaboration between Munster Records and Disques Mono-Tone.

HEAD, JOWE - CABINET OF CURIOS (2LP)

First ever career-spanning compilation of the solo work of Jowe Head, an essential name in the birth and development of the UK's underground scene through his recordings with Swell Maps, Television Personalities, personal projects such as Palookas, Househunters and work under his own name. From 1981 debut album "Pincer Movement" up to 2014 recordings by Jowe Head and The Demi-Monde, plus previously unreleased tracks, these 20 cuts present Head's wonderful mixture of off-kilter pop and avant-garde weirdness, like a noise party attended by Joe Meek, Burt Bacharach and Sun Ra. A Record Store Day 2017 release. If one looks at the galaxy of stars that can be attributed as source material for today's musical DIY/lo-fi generation, Jowe Head shines as a true iconoclast. His 1973 addition to the avant-garage godfathers Swell Maps added an impressionistic edge to their psychedelic punk pastiche that drew of Max Ernst as ably as Can. Later on in The Television Personalities and his Househunters and Palookas projects, not to mention a sprawling solo discography, Jowe's persona injected color and livelihood into an often-too-cool-for-school post-punk scene around Britain while still delivering transportative sounds and open-to-the-listener interpretations. This compendium is in itself a galaxy of sounds that will never fail to deliver. Brian Turner, WFMU Music Director

Back in stock! The self-titled debut by the duo Jaime & Nair is a revelation of all sorts. Released in 1974 on CID under the influence of albums like "Clube Da Esquina" it is an expressive album full of charm through a gesture of swing. It shows an overall dreamy lullaby vibe with subtle touches of Brazilian folk and features well-known artists such as Wilson Das Neves, Orlandivo or José Roberto Bertrami as studio musicians. The outstanding and largely hailed song 'Sob O Mar' brings us back to a pure Brazilian soft-bossanova-beat adorned by luscious orchestral arrangements. It became a popular DJ tune for those in the know after being comped in the fantastic "High Jazz" series in the early 2000s, gaining this album grail status among collectors worldwide. JAPANESE GIRL, THE - SONIC-SHAPED LIFE

Debut album by The Japanese Girl, a hypnotic record that will surely put this band from Oporto at the forefront of Europe's psych-rock scene. The Japanese Girl is a Portuguese band formed in late December 2013 by Bruno Sousa, Corinna Sousa and Emanuel Cunha. Starting with two guitars, an organ and vintage drum machines, they immediately forged a raw and powerful sound somewhere between garage rock and psych lo-fi, while recently they have been joined by a drummer hammering through their opiated layers of reverb. Their intense, noise-filled live performances are accompanied by mysterious visual elements, and besides their own headlining shows the band has also played with Jacco Gardner, The Wand, Girls Names and as part of the Reverence Festival Party. In early 2015 they recorded "Sonic-Shaped Life", their debut album. It was put down on tape at Oporto's renewed studio Sá da Bandeira by Cláudio Tavares and Joao Brandao, and mastered by Miguel Pinheiro Marques at SDB Mastering. Leading single 'You Should Have Switches', released in September, gave the first clues about their own brand of hypnotic rock, where pulsating psychedelia, droney garage and shimmering, trippy pop provide the setting for haunting compositions, catchy hooks and engaging melodies. Over the course of ten tracks, the band sounds commanding in the darker passages or punked-up outbursts and shine in the more sunny, coloured moments, while the flow and pace of the album produce a wholly entrancing record.

JETS, LOS - LECCION DE TWIST (LP+CD WITH BONUS TRACKS)

Formed in 1961, Los Jets are one of the essential bands in the emergence of rock & roll music in Argentina. They were the first group (and possibly the only one) to include two drummers, they sang and did three-part choruses before The Beatles appeared on the scene, and were also pioneers in fusion as they recorded Argentine and Latin American folk songs with a rock beat. JULIAN Y SU COMBO - NOCHE DE FIESTA

Repress!!"Noche de fiesta" (1975) was the first album that Julián Angulo and his combo recorded for Colombia's INS label. With arrangements and piano by Alfredo Linares, it's a thrilling LP sought after by collectors and DJs not only for its hard salsa and instrumental "descarga" tracks but also because of the funky dancefloor cuts 'Enyere Kumbara' (covered by Quantic), NS-Rock' and 'Estoy soda' as well as the excellent original version of 'Las caleñas son como las flores' (made famous later the same year by The Latin Brothers). Angulo described his sound as "Afroantillano", combining Cuban, New York Latin and Puerto Rican elements with Colombia's own tropical traditions. The combo featured the bandleader's funky, jazzy electric guitar, a hot rhythm section and the potent brass line-up of two saxophones and a trumpet. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl. Part of a new Vampisoul reissue series of classic LPs from Colombia's INS label.

LINARES, ALFREDO - LO QUE TENGO

Repress! Alfredo "El Inca" Linares is one of the best and most beloved musicians in the history of salsa. Fans love his piano playing because of his authentic Cuban feel and 'swing' combined with progressive arrangements and uncompromising phrasing. "Lo Que Tengo" is full of rock solid dance floor killers and no filler, recorded in 1980 with some of the cream of the crop of contemporary Venezuelan salsa musicians (members of Mango, Madera, El Trabuco Venezolano, Los Dementes, Los Melódicos, Dimensión Latina, Guaco, and La Salsa Mayor) and launched there on the indie label A.L.G. Records as !Con Todo!, and then a year later on the much larger Velvet Records with a different cover. This a classic Alfredo Linares album, but with the updated studio sound of 1980s Caracas. With five perfectly paced salsas, one funky cha cha chá, a steamy bolero and a dance-friendly Latin jazz number to top it off, there is something for everybody on this record. Thankfully today's generation can now enjoy this rarity at a fraction of the cost of an original copy. Presented in its original artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl.

Charlie Mysterio's new album opens a new musical door for him compared to Los Caramelos, his main project over the years. This time he delivers an eponymous album bursting with anthem-like eternal melodies, songs that would reach the top of the pop charts in an ideal imagined world. He's a singer-songwriter with a fuzz pedal and a Roland TR-606 as travel companions on this journey, which could be another one tomorrow and will probably change again on the stage. Includes CD.

PEREGOYO Y SU COMBO VACANA - MI BUENAVENTURA

The second release for Discos Fuentes by Peregoyo y su Combo Vacaná, recorded circa 1967, is rich with diverse sounds and festive rhythms, from the exotic trance-inducing coastal Afro-Colombian polyrhythmic syncopations of the currulao, abozao chocoano, porro, cumbia and aguabajo to the more well-known genres of Cuban and Puerto Rican origin like descarga, bomba, guaracha and son montuno. The nine-member combo was formed by composer and tenor saxophonist Enrique "Peregoyo" Urbano Tenorio in the Pacific coastal city of Buenaventura. His stated mission was to modernize the folkloric music traditions of his region, proudly displaying Afro-Indigenous origins and spotlighting previously marginalized musical roots yet playing in a contemporary way with Cuban-inspired instrumentation and arrangements, uniting disparate genres into a commercially viable whole, thus contributing to the foundation of future developments in transnational tropical Latin music. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl. Part of Vampisoul's reissue series of classic Fuentes LPs.

SILVER THUNDERS, THE - ME GRITAN MELENUDO

Along with Speakers, Flipper's, Beatniks, Ampex and Streaks, The Silver Thunders were responsible for one of the most exciting chapters of the early rock years in Bogotá, Colombia. Eccentric and volcanic, the quartet recorded an album in 1968 which wasn't released at the time. Rescued from old cassette tapes, that recording finally comes out five decades later, displaying the rebel spirit of a group influenced by Mersey beat, surf and garage. "Me gritan melenudo" contains 'Alma agobiada', their only original composition, plus raw covers of The Beatles, The Monkees, The Troggs, Lovin' Spoonful, Miriam Makeba and The Ventures. It also includes two more Beatles songs and a couple of covers from the Wild In The Street soundtrack recorded in 1970 by Los Yoguis, as the group was known at the end of their short-lived career. Plus many photos, a family tree and the detailed story of the band.

SOLER, TOTI - EL GAT BLANC

Like a long drag of hashish in the morning when the alarm clock rings in the open air, the synthesis that works in this album is aromatic, hypnotic, luminescent. somewhere between Hispalis and the Catalan Mediterranean. Spanish guitar and flamenco metonymies flourish on this transitional instrumental work that ablutions in flamenco waters, scented with folk-blues salts. This 1973 album is seminal in creating flamenco fusion. The arid but magnetic notes of the first track on the album, 'Sardana Flamenca' delve deeper into the subconscious, which Soler recorded on his own with his Spanish guitar, except the electric pieces where members of the band OM helped out. Reissued on vinyl for the first time. Includes an insert with notes and a rare Toti Soler photo.

THIRD EAR BAND - MACBETH

Commissioned by the acclaimed film director Roman Polanski, the English cult band Third Ear Band faced the challenge in order to insert a hell of imagination and creativity to his very own, author cinematographic version of Macbeth, a play by William Shakespeare. The resulting 44 minutes of imaginative sounds, divided in 16 outstanding pieces, is an astonishing example of an archaic, twisted, abstract psychedelia, rooted on medieval and classical textures. A Monster-Munster gem!

TITO CHICOMA Y SU ORQUESTA - CUMBIAS Y BOOGALOOS

Peruvian trumpet player Tito Chicoma dedicated his 1968 LP on MAG to recording two fashionable rhythms at the time: "Cumbias Y Boogaloos". Although Colombian cumbia had gained popularity much earlier, Boogaloo in Peru was championed primarily by the MAG record label, which kept its listeners abreast of tropical music developments in New York, releasing and distributing records by Alegre Records and recording versions of hit songs. An extremely rare and obscure tropical gem loaded with dance floor tunes, reissued now for the first time.

VALDEZ, AL - GOZANDO!! (2022)

Repress! New cover! One of the 'holy grails' of 1960s Cuban music was not recorded, produced or released in Havana or New York; in fact it was made in Lima, Peru. Perhaps due to the fact that it was recorded in South America, Gozando!! has more than simply Cuban and Nuyorican genres like pachanga, mambo, descarga, guaracha, and bolero; there is also a fantastic cover of the Colombian cumbia classic 'Tabaquera'. Overall, this swinging MAG sessions sound like a long-lost record by Cachao and Tito Puente if they led an orchestra with Charlie Palmieri on piano and Tito Rodríguez on vocals. Always an extremely rare collector's item, Gozando!! Is available again with this first-time ever faithfully reproduced reissue.

WARSAW PAKT - NEEDLE TIME (+7")

Real high-energy rock'n'roll in its most potent form is best captured live and in the moment. Maximum thrills, minimum frills. In 1977, London's Warsaw Pakt took that premise one step further, recording their album live, straight through, direct to the cutting lathe. The blazing urgency of the band's performance, combined with a set of edgy, memorable songs makes "Needle Time" one of the most exciting releases of the '70s punk era. It's also one of the most neglected. More than forty years later, "Needle Time" stands as one of the most authentic documents of the lean, visceral sound of London punk rock in its banner year. LP + 7" single pack reissued here on vinyl for the first time. Includes insert with extensive liner notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things Magazine) and individually hand customized record cover.

Wganda Kenya was a group formed by Discos Fuentes under the idea of developing an African and Caribbean sound in order to appeal to the Coste;o Colombian market and also inject a little international exoticism into the label. This 1976 album has become a collector's favorite waiting to be reissued, and it's not hard to understand why since it's full of so many Afro-Funk, Congolese rumba and Caribbean-flavored dance floor burners. Special edition reissue containing two non-album bonus tracks from the same period that appeared on 45s and various artist compilations, as well as an insert with liner notes. Pressed on 180g vinyl. First time reissue.

ZULU - ZULU

One of the last great albums of the first wave of Peruvian rock, originally released in 1974, linking psych-tinged rock with Afro-Latin American beats and folk pop. This first record by (former Traffic Sound and Los Nuevos Shain's member) Zulu was also his last and one of the most enigmatic albums released in Peru in the 0s, as the artist vanished into the religious path, making sure his music got as unnoticed as possible... Reissued for the first time with the collaboration of Zulu, including extensive liner notes and one extra track.
