"Theremonial" es el primer disco producido en España en el que el
theremin es el único instrumento empleado y muy probablemente el primero a
nivel mundial en el que este aparato asume todos los roles musicales
(percusión, bajo, armonía, melodía, ruido etc). Por mucho que cueste creerlo
al escucharlo no se ha utilizado ningún sampler, ni ningún otro recurso
sonoro aparte del propio theremin, en ocasiones sonando limpio y sin ningún
tratamiento sonoro y en otras filtrado a través de pedales de efectos.
"Theremonial" es un disco solo de theremin pero no un disco de
theremin solo, no es un disco solista sino un auténtico caleidoscopio de
sonidos que destaca por la singularidad de tener como única fuente sonora
este instrumento. Nota importante> no se ha empleado ninguna herramienta
de corrección de tono (pitch correct), contradice la lógica y el espíritu, tanto
del proyecto como del propio instrumento, el theremin y su complicada
afinación suena tal cual se ha tocado, para bien y para mal. La mayor parte
de los temas han sido compuestos y grabados de noche. Han sido muchas
madrugadas abstraído de la realidad, rastreando la inspiración en el infinito
de notas que es capaz de reproducir este cacharro. De alguna manera extra;a
cada tema me ha hecho revivir sensaciones pasadas o recordar lugares más o
menos evocadores. De ahí tanto título geográfico o connotativo. No era algo
premeditado.

Yes, there is rock, but it's so deformed that not even no wave could help you

the most authentic band in the world or that this record matches the
production of El/P, but instead here you have some of the most exciting
musicians in Berlin coming together for the first time, interpreting some
lyrics from Mattin, dealing with our fucked up times and the search for
overcoming them. To say that there is no authenticity is not to fall into the
postmodern relativism that has been a debilitating force in the struggle
against the new wave of neo fascism. In fact, the latter also claim their own
authenticity> race realism. Nor surprisingly, authenticity was also at the
core of Heidegger, which somehow connects National Socialism and its French
deconstructionist critics. Even if this record for some might sound like
deconstructed rock through electronic noise and improv, it is also doing
something else like building a Frankenstein monster in the form of
rock/as/zombie/avatar> as if Lou Reed would haunt us from the other side
connecting the motherboards of our devices to our brains, giving us all
electroshocks for not being able to stop this fascism/as/the/new/punk regime,
while he shouts at us> they got the traction on danger and you need to
take it back!

con este discazo. Dejan de lado su parte más punk y divertida para adentrarse

apreciado por los punks ni tampoco por la escena metalera pero precisamente
ahí radica lo bueno que lleva implícito este disco. Está a medio camino de

AL MASSRIEEN - MODERN EGYPTIAN MUSIC
In the beginning of Habibi Funk, our search was focussed on vinyl records.
Around a year ago though, we got to the point where we realized that it
became substantially harder to discover music, that we enjoyed and hadn't
heard before. It became apparent that it was time to start looking for other
formats. Cassette tapes were the obvious alternative. These were introduced
in the arabic world around the late 1970s. In some countries they took over a
bit earlier, in others a bit later, but eventually they pushed the vinyl
format out of the market in the 1980s. In Egypt this trend already even
started in the late 1970s. Al Massrieen was one of the first bands I learned
about once I discovered the tape format for myself. They were really popular
in Egypt
in the 1970s and the more of their music I found on either tapes or Arabic
pirate mp3 sites, the more I was becoming a fan. Only very few bands from the
region can match the band's versatility as well as their strive for
innovation. Hany Shenoda is the man behind the Al Massrieen band. He is a
reknown figure of the Egyptian music scene and has worked with everyone from
Abdel Halim Hafez to Mohamed Mounir. Al Massrieen was his attempt to
introduce his ideas of modernizing Egyptian music, heavily encouraged by
Naguib Mahfouz *Egypt-s only winner of the Nobel Price for literature( after
discussing his ideas with him. Al Massrieen-s sound goes from lush disco like
"Sah" to psych rock like "Horreya" or incredible jazz
fused pop on songs such as "Edba Mn Gded". I was shocked to realize
the band seemed to be hardly known outside Egypt, even though I feel they-re
at least on the same level as Ahmed Fakroun. An relative obscurity which I
largely attribute to the fact that their releases never have been pressed on
vinyl *apart from a Greece
best of LP which wasn't a strong compilation of the group's songs(. One way
or another it felt like this band and especially their composer, band leader
and overall brain Hany Shenoda was in need to get some recognition outside of
Egypt. The release is fully licensed from the band and comes with an
extensive booklet with liner notes, interviews and unseen photos.

unfathomable depths. The music is sparse, almost whispered at times, like a
secret. The title gives everything away, though. During the gestation of his
2002 album Impasse, which will receive a new vinyl pressing from Merge
Records on March 31, 2017, Richard Buckner was stuck. But, with perseverance,
what began as one of his most troubled recording attempts ended as one of his
best and most pivotal / a capstone for his wayfaring early period before he
planted roots with Merge. @You don-t really know what you-re writing at the

The Features, perhaps more than anybody, were the band that provided the
stylistic delineation between punk and post/punk in the Auckland,
New Zealand
scene. The band formed in late 1979, led by Jed Town *guitar( and James
Pinker *drums(. Both were members of The Superettes with Paul Kean *later The
Bats(, and when Kean left to join Toy Love they pulled in Karel Van Bergen *vocals,
ex/Primmers(, and Chris Orange *bass, ex/Terrorways( to complete the line/up.
Drawing from the likes of Public Image Ltd, Wire, the emerging New York
no/wave movement and Town-s passion for late period Beatles, the Features
offered a far more experimental and jagged sound than most of their peers and
were instantly popular, drawing strong crowds at the assorted hall gigs that
were increasingly regular weekend events in the city. Their first release was
the single -City Scenes- on the new Propeller label, which reached number
No.32 in the New Zealand
charts in June 1980. The label was created by Simon Grigg especially for the
band, who then entered Harlequin Studios, where they recorded eight tracks
for a proposed album. Despite their brief lifespan and handful of releases,
Features are repeatedly named as a primary influence by many acts that
followed them, breaking down, as they did, the barriers that had been
constructed by the first and second waves of New Zealand punk.@

Motorhead with Lemmy's Jack Daniels/gruff vocals replaced by those of the
trippier and more psychedelia soaked Nathan Von Cruz. Through 6 more songs
they pout and spit, thrash their guitars, destroy drums and generally make a
mess of the place. There's nothing pretty about The Hip Priests but they
preach the 60's, 70's and 80's gospel according to sex, drugs n' rock n'
bastard roll in an all/out, full frontal assault on your heathen ears, and
the word is good. For fans of Zeke, Turbonegro, Misfits, Dead Boys, Stooges,
Motorhead... among other great Rock bands.

Keith ^ Tex hoy en día son un icono del Rocksteady jamaicano, con clásicos,
ya para toda la vida, como ¶onight', ¶his Is My Song', un To The Rocks',
oodbye Baby' y, por su puesto, top That Train', un tema mundialmente conocido
por su aparición en la película ¶he Harder They Come' de Jimmy Cliff. Keith
Rowe y Philip Texas Dixon, ambos procedentes de la ciudad de Kingston, se
conocieron por un amigo común y rápidamente formaron el duo Keith ^ Tex
acompa;ados por otros cinco músicos cantando allá donde les dejaban,
esperando que les llegara la oportunidad de grabar algo de material. Hicieron
audiciones con los más grandes en Jamaica en esos días, con Duke reíd, Prince
Buster y Coxsone Dodd, pero estos no demostraron especial interés por el
grupo y acabaron por disolverse como conjunto pero el duo no se rindió y
siguió trabajando hasta que les llegara su momento. Y ese momento llegó
cuando conocieron a Derrick Harriott y empezaron a trabajar para él plasmando
los mejores momentos del duo en formato single a finales de los a;os 60 con
canciones como top That Train' *originalmente un tema ska del grupo The
Spanishtonians(, ¶onight', ¶his Is My Song', don-t Look Back' *una version de
The Temptations( y Let Me Be
the One'. Pero la historia no duró mucho, dejaron de grabar joyas en 1970
cuando ambos emigraron> Keith a EE. UU. y Tex a Canadá. Desde entonces
siguieron de algún modo u otro ligados a la música pero no de manera
profesional, hasta que en 1997 se juntaron para ofrecer algunos conciertos y
grabar un disco. Ese mismo a;o Keith emprendió una nueva carrera como locutor
de radio con el programa ounds of the Caribbean', una apasionante aventura
que duró hasta 2013. Desde entonces no han querido apartarse nunca más de la
música y en los últimos a;os han estado actuando en festivales bastante a
menudo por EE. UU., Europa y Japón. 2016 ve la salida de nuevo material
original producido por Roberto Sánchez en A/Lone Ark Muzik Studio con la
edición de un single con dos temas inéditos, lanzamiento al que le sigue este
álbum que sostienes en tus manos, editado ya en 2017. Un disco compuesto
exclusivamente de material propio, guardando la línea Rocksteady de la que el
duo fue abanderado en la época dorada que transcurrió de 1967 a 1969, pero dejando
algunas concesiones al Ska y al Reggae a lo largo de las 11 canciones que
componen este nuevo disco. Un álbum que prueba el excelente momento en el que
de encuentra el duo que sumado a la impecable producción de Roberto Sánchez
hacen de este disco una auténtica joya.

THE KENNY AND THE KASUALS
Kenny and the Kasuals are an American, Dallas/area garage rock band founded
in 1962, whose records are considered "among the most collectable LPs of
the -60s" The band was formed at Bryan Adams High School in Dallas,
Texas, by Kenny Daniel, and was managed by Mark Lee, who later opened Dallas-
punk club, The Hot Klub. In 1967, their self/released single "Journey To
Tyme" garnered some national radio airplay, including the Number One
spot in both Buffalo, New
York, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the Top Ten on Dallas station KLIF. Prior to recording
"Journey To Tyme", the band had released an album titled "The
IMPACT Sound of Kenny and the Kasuals Live At the Studio Club"(although
it was neither live nor recorded at the Studio Club). Only 500 copies of this
album were pressed, and nearly half of those destroyed by Texas summer heat, but the remaining
copies have become some of the most sought/after vinyl records of the 1960s.

The third album by this combo from Bologna
is the apotheosis of their histrionic verve. Directed in studio by Italian
progressive rock luminary, Paolo Tofani, Kinotto was released in 1979, and as
Freak Antoni himself declared, the album was closer to new wave than previous
efforts and its best-known track, "Mi piaccion le sbarbine", was
soon on heavy rotation. With Kinotto came also the artistic consecration of
the Skiantos, who went from being a cult band to one of the most energetic
and histrionic in Italian rock. Invited to replace Italian rock superstar
Vasco Rossi's back-up band in 1990, and undoubtedly a source of inspiration
for the evil doings of Italian "mock rock" band Elio e Le Storie
Tese, with Kinotto the Skiantos wrote one of the most thrilling pages in
Italian music.

In 2010 Freak Antoni, the undisputed leader of the Skiantos, received the
prestigious "Premio Tenco" award in honor of his incredible career
as leader of one of the most emblematic groups in Italian rock. Often
mislabeled "demented-rock", the Skiantos were in reality an
exception to the rule. This reissue of their second album is, therefore, a
road to understanding to what degree rock music was putty in the hands of
this band from Bologna,
who away from cumbersome references to British and American rock chose to
follow their own path to originality. Their youthful and unprejudiced energy
together with the personality of great thinkers became an oft-debated
manifesto, but one that is destined to maintain its importance in the years
to come. The album's cover art picturing an enormous dinosaur destroying a
building is testimony to their ironic, but biting attack on institutions,
which when translated into music paid homage both to Italy's
eccentric singer/songwriter tradition as well as the heretic dialectics of coeval

In the early nineties these three bands became a springboard for many other
interesting projects. From the ashes of Hoover
raised other bands like The Crownhate Ruin, June of 44, Regulator Watts or
the matter in hand, The Sorts. In a scene /Washington DC&Dischord/
dominated by highly inflammable post/hardcore bands like Fugazi or Jawbox,
bands like The Sorts or Smart Went Crazy presented a more relaxed way of doing,

copies !! Tearing through the speakers like a swamp monster summoned from
some dark cosmic morass, Texas riffmasters Wo Fat unapologetically blast out
a southern fried, blues/infused version of Psychedelic Doom, conjuring up
visions of hoodoo shacks, prowling undead, hell hounds at the crossroads,
Lovecraftian cultists and ghouls, and worlds beyond where the riff reigns
almighty. Wo Fat rose from the deep and began their psyche/doom/adelic quest
circa 2003 when guitarist Kent Stump formed the band with drummer Michael
Walter and bassist TimWilson. Their goal was to create a music that is crushingly
heavy, but that stays within the paradigm forged by Black Sabbath, Jimi
Hendrix, ZZ Top and the other 70-s greats. A music that allows for
improvisational freedom, extensive jamming and interplay between the three
members yet that, at the same time, allows them to crank out monolithic,
fuzzed out, downtuned riffs, all the while staying true to the haunting blues
that wail and moan deep within their souls. Their 2006 release, @The
Gathering Dark,@ which was the first documented, hazy, smoke/filled trip in
their ongoing Riff Quest, gave us the blueprint that they would expand upon
in later albums. This blueprint was a mixture of dark, Mississippi Hill
Country blues, extended acid guitar freakouts and heavierthan/Led,
Sabbath/style riffing.Wo Fat took things up a notch with their next album,
@Psychedelonaut@*2009( and again with 2011-s @Noche del Chupacabra,@
continuing to offer up even weightier and more crushing riffage coupled with
moments of spaced out trippiness. Both of these albums garnered much critical
acclaim and helped to establish them as an up and coming force to be reckoned
with in the Stoner&Doom world, with @Noche del Chupacabra@ landing on a
number of Top Albums of 2011 lists. Now,Wo Fat has joined the Small Stone
roster and, after another psychedelic journey to the hoodoo shack, is
offering up a new epic album / @The Black Code@ / five hefty slabs of

Keith ^ Tex hoy en día son un icono del Rocksteady jamaicano, con clásicos,
ya para toda la vida, como ¶onight', ¶his Is My Song', un To The Rocks',
oodbye Baby' y, por su puesto, top That Train', un tema mundialmente conocido
por su aparición en la película ¶he Harder They Come' de Jimmy Cliff. Keith
Rowe y Philip Texas Dixon, ambos procedentes de la ciudad de Kingston, se
conocieron por un amigo común y rápidamente formaron el duo Keith ^ Tex
acompa;ados por otros cinco músicos cantando allá donde les dejaban,
esperando que les llegara la oportunidad de grabar algo de material. Hicieron
audiciones con los más grandes en Jamaica en esos días, con Duke reíd, Prince
Buster y Coxsone Dodd, pero estos no demostraron especial interés por el

profesional, hasta que en 1997 se juntaron para ofrecer algunos conciertos y
grabar un disco. Ese mismo a;o Keith emprendió una nueva carrera como locutor
de radio con el programa ounds of the Caribbean', una apasionante aventura
que duró hasta 2013. Desde entonces no han querido apartarse nunca más de la
música y en los últimos a;os han estado actuando en festivales bastante a
menudo por EE. UU., Europa y Japón. 2016 ve la salida de nuevo material
original producido por Roberto Sánchez en A/Lone Ark Muzik Studio con la
edición de un single con dos temas inéditos, lanzamiento al que le sigue este
álbum que sostienes en tus manos, editado ya en 2017. Un disco compuesto
exclusivamente de material propio, guardando la línea Rocksteady de la que el
duo fue abanderado en la época dorada que transcurrió de 1967 a 1969, pero dejando
algunas concesiones al Ska y al Reggae a lo largo de las 11 canciones que
componen este nuevo disco. Un álbum que prueba el excelente momento en el que
de encuentra el duo que sumado a la impecable producción de Roberto Sánchez

Sandy Nelson was an important contributor to the early days of rock and roll,
and helped fashion what has become known as the original "surf
music".As the first instrumental artist to bring the drums front and
center on a Top 40 hit (1959's million-selling "Teen Beat", which
also featured future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston), the Santa Monica, California
native was declared by Rolling Stone magazine to be "...the father of
the extended rock drum solo".After such achievements as playing drums on
Phil Spector's first hit and a stint as a drummer for The Ventures, Nelson
went on to have many other hits of his own. His lengthy early 60's
experimental pieces were precursors of he psychedelic jams which were to
follow half a decade later. From his early beginnings, all the way to the
