DESUMANOS - DESUMANOS
Desumanos' fresh mixture of guitar driven melodies is as evocative as it is
playful. From their native Brazil, the band casts uncompromising surf scents
on a handful of songs that also drop in the mix African rhythms, cumbia and
lambada. This instrumental project is made up of a dream-team of producers
and musicians: Kassin (bass), who was member of The +2's and co-produced
Gilles Peterson's Brazilian project Sonzeira, and former Os Mutantes member Liminha
(guitar), as well as Felipe and Manoel Cordeiro (guitar), one of the lambada
originators, and Stephane San Juan (drums), currently playing with David
Byrne.

Drought", originally recorded in November 2005, where the band goes

Here's the reissue of the impressive
second album by Kill Devil Hills, where the band continues in the direction
of their first work, "Heathen Songs", but adding dirtier nuances
and rock. If in the first album we talked about Nick Cave and Hugo Race as
mentionable influences, in this second one we can easily add THE BEASTS OF
BOURBON to the list of influences on their sound, when listening to some of
the rawest songs of it. This gang of animals from Perth, Australia, take
their swampy folk-blues and take it to a new world of more extreme and wild
sounds where melodies and violins create a wall of sound that involuntarily
forces you to stand and listen. After their successful tours of Australia and
America, THE KILL DEVIL HILLS released this album in which they showed you
that they were not "the next big thing", they were really a great
band with overwhelming live shows. A key band and a pillar of the new
emerging and ardent scene that has once again made Australia a hotbed of

Peruvian trumpet player Tito Chicoma dedicated his 1968 LP on MAG to
recording two fashionable rhythms at the time: "Cumbias Y
Boogaloos". Although Colombian cumbia had gained popularity much
earlier, Boogaloo in Peru was championed primarily by the MAG record label,
which kept its listeners abreast of tropical music developments in New York,
releasing and distributing records by Alegre Records and recording versions
of hit songs. An extremely rare and obscure tropical gem loaded with dance
floor tunes, reissued now for the first time.

This sampler compiles 14 killer tropical tracks for the dance floor, all
taken from the vaults of Peru's MAG records, including cumbias to descargas,
boogaloo to salsa. Classic songs such as 'Arroz Con Coco' or 'Aprieta (Oye Como
Va),' and also obscure recordings like the stunning 'Ritmo Veregua' by Tito
Chicoma or the totally under-the-radar -recorded in Lima- 'Mi Son Combinado'
by Cuba's legendary Orquesta Revé. MAG will turn 70 in 2023 and is a pivotal
label in Peruvian music, mainly focused on tropical rhythms although its
extensive catalogue also includes rock, pop and jazz recordings. This
compilation celebrates the recent addition of Discos MAG to the Vampisoul
family, where the best and most elusive titles from the MAG archive will

"paulista" of all Tropicalistas. He came from Bahia, but his wry
urban poetry, infused with the uncomfortable sounds of the largest metropolis
of South America, is pure Sao Paulo. The variety of musical genres in the LP
- samba, sertanejo, bolero, xote, repente and forro - reflects the cultural
diversity of the Bra's neighbourhood, a meeting point of Italians,
nordestinos, Africans, and latinos. This reissue includes unseen photos, new
testimonials from Tom Ze himself and a lengthy article signed by Bento
Araujo, author of the book series Lindo Sonho Delirante. Away from radio, TV
and with live performances increasingly scarce at the end of the seventies,
Tom Ze was a risky investment for record labels, agents, and gig promoters.
Always eager to please his sense for innovation and his creativity Tom Ze
wanted to release an album again after the cult Estudando o Samba (1976). So
came this, a record where the tension was at the script, in the distressing
real life chronicles that the artist interpreted and reported also in an
autobiographic manner. At Correio da Estacao do Bras (1978 - 2022) Tom Ze had
done what seemed impossible: contemporary working-class music not for the
elite but for the people itself.

Delirante. Todos os Olhos is one of the most emblematic and essential records
of the confrontational music of Brazil. By denouncing, criticizing, and
mocking the trend of "heroes" who made "protest music" at
the time, Tom Ze' signed his eremitic letter of exclusion but not without
"contest the contestation". Excommunicated from the MPB and even
from Tropicalia, in Todos os Olhos Tom Ze' presented, with a lot of courage,
an unusualway of fight Brazil's military dictatorship. All that would be
later triggered in Tom Ze's career is here, always ready for a new
rediscovery.

includes unseen photos, new testimonials from Tom Ze' himself and a lengthy

Delirante. After a few "strategic mistakes" in his career, Tom Ze'
found a new home at Continental label. It was there that he made four albums
for the remaining 1970s, beginning with this one. When this LP was released,
in 1972, Tom Ze' had a relentless interest in the unexplored, in the
experiments, and in the unusual. These songs revealed a more mature Tom Ze',
addressing social issues, outdated concepts, false traditions, and the

1976 unites a dream team of musicians from OS MUTANTES, BLACK RIO, SOM NOSSO
and special guest DOMINGUINHOS, into an amazing fusion of Brazilian regional
rhythms of capoeira, forró and candomblé, with the heaviest funk, soul, rock,
progressive and psychedelic music ever released in Brazil. In his own words,
Eduardo Araújo stated in 1976: 'Our musical philosophy remains the same:
mixing rock and northeastern music to make a universal sound'. It is curious
to observe the aesthetic changes that Eduardo Araújo underwent until he

CAYMMI, DORIVAL - BRAZILIAN CLASSICS
Dorival Caymmi was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, actor, and painter active
for more than 70 years beginning in 1933. He contributed to the birth of
Brazil's bossa nova movement, and several of his samba pieces, such as 'Samba
da Minha Terra', 'Doralice' and 'Saudade da Bahia', have become staples of
música popular brasileira. Equally notable are his ballads celebrating the
fishermen and women of Bahia, including 'Promessa de Pescador', 'O Que É Que
a Baiana Tem?', and 'Milagre'. Caymmi composed about 100 songs in his
lifetime, and many of his works are now considered to be Brazilian classics.
Both Brazilian and non/Brazilian musicians have covered his songs. Ben
Ratliff of The New York Times wrote that Caymmi was 'perhaps second only to
Antônio Carlos Jobim in -establishing a songbook of the 20th century-
Brazilian identity. This anthology is truly a majestic entry into his own
influential lifetime.

Oliveira from 1987 to 1993. Jocy is considered a pioneer in avant-garde

Bério, John Cage, K. Stockhausen and Xenakis. Her main musical tools are

pieces, Jocy talks about imagination, mythologies connected to the sacred
feminine and contemporary physics cosmology. Jocy plays synthesizers in all

Made In Japan is the third album by Japanese rock band Flower Travellin'
Band, released in 1972. After meeting Lighthouse at the Expo '70 festival in
Osaka, Flower Travellin' Band were invited to visit Canada. While there, the
group recorded Made in Japan with Lighthouse keyboardist Paul Hoffert helping
produce. Due to George Wada becoming ill with tuberculosis, Canadian drummer
Paul DeLong plays on some tracks on this album. The lyrics were written by
Yoko Nomura, the wife of the band's manager, who translated conversations she
had with the group and their ideas into English. 'Heaven and Hell' was
written by Yamanaka in Japanese and she translated it. The song 'Hiroshima'
is a re-imagining of 'Satori Part III' from their previous album Satori. The
introductory first track is an advertisement for a concert at Stanley Park
Stadium by Flower Travellin' Band, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Bob Seger and
Teegarden & Van Winkle, with a clip of 'Lucky Man' playing in the
background.

Legendary performance by Fowley and Chris Wilson of Barracudas/Flamin'
Groovies plus unknown band here named as Ivan Kral Band, which was
interrupted when go-go dancers came on stage and later ended by the
organizers. One of very few live recordings of Kim Fowley to survive and
amazingly, he survived this show as the audience boo-ed him off the stage.
The resentful backing band played with awkward but authentic garage fire, but
hadn't rehearsed properly and mid-show, the organizer asked the audience if
they wanted the show to continue and even though they emphatically replied
'YES!!!!', Fowley and the band continued on, oblivious to the jeering
audience. Eventually, he was -removed- from the stage. Tracks 1 through 9 are
all that remain of the original concert, 10 through 16 were recorded at a
rehearsal. Taped October 26th, 1992 in Berlin, featuring Chris Wilson of
Barracudas/Flamin' Groovies The first time Kim Fowley has ever recorded live
(anywhere!) Selections 1 to 9 were recorded before a Berlin Independence Day
audience, Oct 26, 1992, other selections from the rehearsal at Huxley's Neue
Welt at Oct 25, 1992.

Esther Marrow began singing professionally in the early 60s. Her big break
came in 1965 when she was asked by Duke Ellington to take part in his
ground-breaking Concert of Sacred Music at the Grace Cathedral in San
Francisco. Marrow toured with the Duke Ellington Band as well as Harry
Belafonte and came to the attention of Bob Thiele who recorded and released
this debut album on his Flying Dutchman label in 1969. Musically, it's a compelling
mix of funk and soul, occupying similar terrain to Alice Clark's great album
that was released on Mainstream in 1972. For example, Jesse Stone's 'Money
Honey' is given a crunching funk arrangement and is one of three tracks that
tempt collectors to pay big money for an original copy: 'Walk Tall' and
'Chains Of Love' are the other two. 'Chains Of Love' was originally recorded
in Detroit by J.J. Barnes and became a Northern Soul classic. 'Walk Tall' is
one of the album's highlights and features music originally written by
pianist Joe Zawinul and performed by Cannonball Adderley, with lyrics by
James Rein and Morrow. It has become something of a jazz standard, but no
version ever bettered this original track. Pressed on 180gm vinyl, we have remained
faithful to the original pressing replicating the Flying Dutchman label style
and gatefold sleeve.

controlled than previous recordings. On the one hand, it invokes the same raw
intensity of bands like Black Witchery and Demoncy, and on the other it
conjures a hypnotic dissonance akin to that of a band like Antaeus, as well
as a ritualistic dimension similar to that of Necros Christos and Teitanblood.

Back in stock! The entirety of Necrofago's recorded legacy is encapsulated in
their activities during the years 1897 and 1988 with the most important piece
being their 1987 demo entitled "Brutal Mutilation". One of the most
unique sounding recordings to have come from the Brazilian scene,
"Brutal Mutilation" exemplifies, unlike any other recording, the
emphasis those bands placed upon harsh aggression and raw recording
techniques. The demo sounds like the result of the potent collision of
immense quantities cheap alcohol and inhalants in brains already awash in
adrenaline and youthful testosterone. Lacking in nearly every category of
technical proficiency, Necrofago focused their entire effort into creating a
monument to savagery.

PHOBIA (NOR) - SLAUGHTERHOUSE TAPES
The emergence of the Norwegian Black Metal movement is often regarded as a
sudden paradigmatic shift in sound and aesthetics. But it didn't take place
in a vacuum< many of the key players in the scene were already involved in
underground metal. So it was for the founding members of Enslaved *Grutle
Kjellson and Ivar Bjornson( and Theatre of Tragedy *Hein Frode Hansen(, all
of whom initially played in a short/lived but impressive Death Metal band
called Phobia. The "Slaughterhouse" to which the title of this
collection refers is Gamle Slaktehuset, or "old slaughterhouse," a
community youth center in the small town of Haugesund that served as an
incubation center for numerous adolescent bands in the region. Equipped with
multiple rehearsal rooms, a studio, a café, and a performance space,
Slaktehuset offered everything a fledgling band needed. Ranging in ages from
12/18, the members of Phobia coalesced around Slaktehuset, where they wrote
and rehearsed original material and eventually recorded their demos,
"The Last Settlement of Ragnarok" and "Feverish
Convulsions," both of which were released in 1991. (The first Enslaved
and Immortal demos were also recorded at Slaktehuset later that same year).

What about a funk group from Chicago paying homage to the famous russian
prophet&mystical ? The band, founded in the early '70s by session musician
Martin Dumas Jr, debuted with a killer album on Cotillion (a subsidiary label
of Atlantic, operating from 1968 to 1986) in 1971 showing their intense power
and a full/on blaxploitation aesthetic. Their sound was mainly a mix of fuzzy
guitars and tight horns arrangements, with lots of cool percussion thrown in
! At times, you can tell there's almost a Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band vibe
to their approach, but mixed with some lysergic influences - think about
early Funkadelic -verging on their more rock side of things .

his split combines recordings by two of the most impressive, but overlooked
bands with which NWN! has ever worked. These bands, though separated by a
vast geographic and temporal chasm, nonetheless utter their respective
incantations in a similar tongue. Resuscitator's doom drenched death metal is
among the darkest and most atmospheric to emerge from the sick corners of
mid/1990's Southern California. These tracks presented here were recorded in
1994, but were never released. Worshippers of the band's
"Iniciation" LP will find a continuation of the sound that was constructed
on that release. It should be noted that the more recent releases using the
name Resuscitator belong to a completely different lineup, and the recording
here bears virtually no resemblance to that recent lineup's output. While
Resuscitator play death metal in a traditionally North American style, there
can also be heard a tremendous influence of early Greek black&death such
as Varathron and Rotting Christ. At the time, few if any North American death
metal bands were incorporating the melancholy sounds cultivated by the
Hellenic masters into their style as masterfully as Resuscitator. These
tracks mark the last unreleased material from this era of the band's
existence. Like Resuscitator, Australia's Sacriphyx also envelop their sound
in one that is largely attributable to traditional Greek influence. Sacriphyx
do not rely so heavily on a brooding death metal sound, however. Instead,
they construct epic hymns that convey the triumphant and tragic spirit of
militaristic combat. Focusing on a nationalistic reverence for soldiers from
the hellish realm down under, every track Sacriphyx writes is a magnum opus
to the spirit of combat. These two bands were combined on this split release
to illustrate the specific nexus in their respective styles. The resulting
music covers a broad spectrum both stylistically and thematically, but the
bands' convergence is perfectly sufficient to also permit a continuous
listening experience. Black vinyl, comes with two patches.

The title of Thomas's third album for Bob Thiele's Flying Dutchman referenced
Oliver Nelson's classic 1961 LP "The Blues and the Abstract Truth".
Released in 1972, "Blues And The Soulful Truth" featured an
expansive all-star band that included Pretty Purdie (drums), Stanley Clarke
(bass), Cecil Payne (Baritone sax) and the unsung Neal Creque (keyboards).
It's a soul meets jazz meets the blues masterpiece with arrangements from
ex-James Brown horn-man Pee Wee Ellis. Pressed on 180gm vinyl we have
remained faithful to the original pressing, replicating the Flying Dutchman
label style and gatefold sleeve.

Upside is a legendary hardcore/punk band from Sassuolo near Modena (Italy)
that started in early 80s and is still performing to this day. They were part
of the scene that gave us bands like Stigmathe, Raw Power, Nabat, Dioxina,
Cani, No Jap, Hydra, Stalag 17, RAF Punk,... In 1983 they debuted on vinyl
with Nati Per Soffrire 7" but even before that they recorded the first
demo tape with great songs that never came out elsewhere. Political punk
verging on hardcore tinged with dark overtones, both musically and lyrically.
Very critical, almost apocalyptic lyrics about the society. Their music
influences seem to merge early UK 82 stuff with Italian HC/Punk of the time
as well as 80s Finnish HC, although not as fast as most of their Scandinavian
counterparts. 10 songs (plus a hidden track) from the demo, remastered, for
the first time on vinyl. Comes with a foldout 12" insert with band
photos, lyrics, flyers and band's history in a deluxe 350 gr laminated cover

This is probably one of the US private press scene's greatest treasures. The
sole album published by this American five-piece was released in 1973 in a
ridiculously small run and soon was elected as a contemporary cult. The band
from Indianapolis consisted of brothers David Zerfas and Herman Zerfas, and
was originally formed in 1969. While they released just a single self-titled
album, they continued to play gigs until 1983. All the material is
self-penned which comes as a surprise as the tracks are uniformly strong,
with lots of keyboards, sound effects, and some outstanding harmonies. An
excellent mix of proto-garage, psych and even prog with a strong effort on
studio wizardly. A rare gem all in all !
