GONTRAN - L'ENVOL
In his youth days, Gontran lived on the road. He describes himself as a
member of the alternative hippie generation, not of those who claimed wanted
to change the world, but of those who actually took an alternate way of
living. He travelled, took any jobs available to make some money to live
wherever he was, and wrote beautiful songs accompaining himself on guitar.
From time to time, when the stars aligned, when there was the chance, he
would rent some studio time and lay down his compositions, always in a pretty
bare way with little arrangements added on the spot, mostly by musicians who
happened to be there and who improvised their parts - one take, we have it.
With this procedure he released Funambule in 1975 and L-envol in 1977. He
also worked with Dominique Le Roux on a joint venture LP in 1979. On offer
here is the first ever vinyl reissue of Gontran-s second album L-envol,
recorded in two hours on a Paris studio with a bass player (F.D. Aldonse) and
two female vocalists whose surnames have been lost in the depths of time -
Victorine and Theodorine. As the other Gontran albums, it was self released
in a limited run private pressing which has nowadays become an elusive piece
in the collectors market - so rare that it doesn-t even appear on Phileas
Folk-s great The French Folk Magic Time Guide book. The Wah Wah reissue has
been made with the great help of Gontran himself and features a faithfull
reproduction of the original album artwork with the addition of an insert
with photos, lyrics and liner notes. It is an edition of 300 copies
only!

Clear Vinyl. We Three, recorded in a single session on November 14, 1958, was
the first American studio date as a bandleader for the diminutive and
legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes, although with pianist Phineas Newborn on
board (along with bassist Paul Chambers), it really is a set dominated by
Newborn, whose busy, two-handed technique here works in tandem balance with
Haynes- cool refinement. Newborn was all about amazing and dazzling piano
runs that on some dates created simply too much flash and clutter to allow
pieces to flow and breathe properly, but Haynes has always been about grace
and flow throughout his career (if a drummer's style can said to be elegant,
Haynes fits the bill), and here he rubs off on Newborn, who exercises just
enough restraint to keep him in the proper orbit, resulting in a fine album.
Highlights include the easy, pure swing of the opener, a version of Ray
Bryant's 'Reflection', a wonderful and bluesy rendition of Avery Parrish's
'After Hours' (which finds Newborn in perfect balance between explosive
ornamentation and smooth functionality), and a jaunty, fun spin through
Newborn's own 'Sugar Ray', a tribute to boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. This trio
had a brief recording career together, but as this solid set shows, they made
the best of it.

HINE, RUPERT - UNFINISHED PICTURE
Recorded in 1973 at the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Paddington, London,
Unfinished Picture is Rupert Hine's second LP. The songs where all composed
by Hine with lyrics by David McIver and Simon Jeffries. On its sessions, Hine
was surrounded by a host of outstanding musicians that included Simon Jeffes
(Penguin Cafe Orchestra), Mike Giles (Giles, Giles & Fripp / King
Crimson), Mick Waller (Cyril Davis, The Steampacket, Jeff Beck Group), Ray
Cooper (Eric Clapton, Elton John) among others. Rupert Hine's recording
adventures started with the release of a 7" 45 by the folk duo Rupert
& David 'The Sounds Of Silence'. In 1971 he was approached by Purple
Records for the release of his debut solo LP Pick Up A Bone, which despite
its lack of commercial success featured a strong collection of critically
acclaimed compositions that made Purple Records want him to record a second
album - Unfinished Picture, on which Hine showed a fantastic evolution to a
more conceptual, cinematic approach. Echoes of Ray Davies, Kevin Ayers or
hints of Nick Drake taken to a more -happy- territoire mix with beautiful
strings by The Martyn Ford Orange Ensemble and even some ARP synth
explorations to build a fantastic collection of sounds that take the listener
on a trip through the worlds of folk, psych and prog. Hine's career would
soon take off as a famed producer, he did work with Kevin Ayers, Milla
Jovovich, Jonesy, Steve Tilston, Anthony Phillips, Camel, Saga, Rush, Tina
Turner, Howard Jones, Bob Geldof, Suzane Vega, and many others. The Wah Wah
reissue offers the original artwork in its gatefold cover & insert and is
limited to 500 copies only!

"En la onda de" (1967) by Los Jockers is released now on vinyl,
from the original IRT masters! Los Jockers were formed in 1964, and started
playing live in 1965, and were one of the first rock groups to have great
success locally. They used flashy clothes, influenced by the British mods at
first, and by psychedelia, and had a very aggressive and raw live show. Their
music was called "pop contracultural" (counterculture pop). Their version
of the Rolling Stones' classic "Satisfaction" hit the radios before
the original Stones version was known locally, and it was such a smash hit
that during their show at the "Viña del mar festival" they had to
play the song five times!!!

L.A. WITCH - L.A. WITCH (COOKE BOOTLE GREEN VINYL)
The name is a partial misnomer. Though the band hails from Los Angeles, they
do not partake in any sort of witchcraft. Yet their ability to conjure a
specific time and place through their sound does suggest a kind of magic. On
their eponymous debut album, L.A. Witch's reverb-drenched guitar jangle and
sultry vocals conjure the analog sound of a collector's prized 45 from some
short-lived footnote cult band. The melodies forgo the bubblegum pop for a
druggy haze that straddles the line between seedy glory and ominous balladry:
the production can't afford Phil Spector's wall-of-sound, but the
instruments' simple beauty provides an economic grace that renders studio
trickery unnecessary: the lyrics seem more descendent of Johnny Cash's
first-person morality tales than the vacuous empty gestures of pre-fab pop
bands. This isn-t music for the masses: it's music for miscreants, burnouts,
down-and-out dreamers, and obsessive historians.

Repress! Gail Laughton, born Denzil Gail Laughton (1921-1985), was an
American jazz harpist. He worked in Hollywood, playing on many film and
cartoon soundtracks. Originally released in 1969 on the small imprint Rapture
the record has been produced by famous sound engineer Paul Beaver (Beaver
& Krause, Lalo Schifrin & Orchestra) the man who introduced the moog
to Stevie Wonder and Frank Zappa. Standing on the verge of both modern
classical and space age, the record featured the track 'Pompeii 76 A.D.' as
heard on the movie Blade Runner. Gail Laughton can easily be considered a
forerunner of new age, as documented on the highly influential compilation 'I
Am The Center, Private Issue New Age Music In America, 1950-1990' assembled
by project manager Patrick McCarthy for Seattle based Light In The Attic.
'The shimmering, ethereal quality of the harp sings out under his loving
care'.

NIRVANA (UK) - LOCAL ANAESTHETIC
After Patrick Campbell-Lyons and Alex Spyropoulos dissolved their
partnership, they both went separate ways in the music scene. Campbell-Lyons
began work on the Local Anaesthetic songs while going through a series of
personal matters which ended up being reflected in the tone of the album. He
did release it under the Nirvana name in 1971, but what we have here is a
totally different thing. He decided to break with what had been doing up to
that moment, and came up with an experimental progressive rock album that was
perfectly suited for the Vertigo label through which it was released.
Musically, it has been compared to 'something Frank Zappa could have done'.
It was not inspired by Zappa, but it certainly explored similar boundaries as
he may have done in his works, often moving away from that pop sensitivity
that had characterized Nirvana's previous outings. A unique sounding piece in
their catalogue. And although being so far from what was the Nirvana sound,
we have another excellent LP here that has become a most sought after piece
among collectors. Pianist/keyboardist Patrick Joseph 'Pete' Kelly helped
Campbell-Lyons complete the LP, which also featured collaborations by Jon
Field, with whom Campbell/Lyons had the pre-Nirvana band Second Thoughts and
who would later go to form The Tomcats, July and Jade Warrior - Jade
Warrior's Tony Duhig had also played in Second Thoughts. Some brass
arrangements are thrown in, but the orchestra is gone in favour of a harder
free form, prog-rock sound. The Wah Wah reissue is housed in the original
gatefold sleeve and features one bonus track with the 1971 single version of
TheSaddest Day Of My Life. It-s the first ever official vinyl reissue since
1971. 500 copies only!

time Songs Of Love And Praise showed a return to a more classic Nirvana
sound. Campbell-Lyons revisited two of the most loved songs by the band,
Pentecost Hotel from their debut LP and Rainbow Chaser from their second one.
The album opens precisely with the amazing uptempo beat of Rainbow Chaser,
which while sounding faithful to the original recording, it comes with a
totally different approach on the arrangements. Campbell-Lyons states on the
liners that he went for a step further in that field, and looked for a jazzy
atmosphere. It sets the tone of the album: upbeat good vibrations songs that
differ from the dark mood of the previous Local Anaesthetic LP and that
besides these two songs revisited presents all new material. Uplifted and
positive, Songs Of Love And Praise gives what the title promises to take the
classic Nirvana sound from their first three albums one step further with the
collaboration of Bobby Harrison (Procol Harum, Snafu) Lesley Duncan, Maggie
Bell and Sylvia Schuster (who had already played live with Nirvana at the
time of their debut album). The Wah Wah edition is the first ever official
vinyl edition since 1971. Housed in a glossy textured reproduction of the original

Gil Scott-Heron was twenty-one years old when he was signed to Flying
Dutchman by Bob Thiele to make an album of his poetry. The resultant
"Small Talk at 125th and Lenox" was recorded before a small live
audience and, released in 1970, sat perfectly in a world where the Last Poets
had just tasted Top 10 success with their debut LP. "Small Talk at 125th
and Lenox" opened with a spoken word version of 'The Revolution Will Not
Be Televised' and also featured poems and musical pieces like 'Omen',
'Brother', 'Plastic Pattern People', 'Paint It Black' and 'Everyday' that
reflected on the black community and its condition within America at this
time.

Repress!! Originally released to capitalise on the success of Scott/Heron's
then/current hit ¶he Bottle' and his subsequent signing to Arista, this 1974
compilation has since become the definitive distillation of his early work.
Contained within the original 11/track selection were the title track, hitey
On The Moon', ome Is Where The Hatred Is' plus eight more. The expanded
CD version offers a more rounded view of Scott/Heron's work with the addition
of nine tracks among them hen You Are Who You Are', used in a recent
television commercial, Think I'll Call It Morning' and the original
spoken/word version of ¶he Revolution Will Not Be Televised'. By way of a
bonus, edited versions of several of his poems are also included.
Replicating the original 11/track running order and packaged in a heavy
duty sleeve, the vinyl reissue features the original LP's inner gatefold
artwork on the inner bag.

New reissue of the Stonewall Noise Orchestra legendary album Constants In An
Ever Changing Universe. It was quite chaotic putting this album together.
It's recorded in 5 different locations. Rehearsal rooms, a living room, a
super professional studio, high and low really. I guess it was quite a
challenge for Robert Ekholm to do the mixing. It was also some personal
challenges at the time which resulted in John Hermansen doing the vocals.
John is an incredible singer and an awesome dude, we're very thankful he
helped us keeping the band rolling. The album was supposed to be released
earlier than it was but due to all kinds of stuff out of our control it took
some time. In the middle of this chaos was the music, the constant in an ever
changing universe. It's an album we're proud of and we still play many songs
from it live.

The Troggs' 1966 debut British LP was substantially different to their first
American long-player, although eight of the songs appear on both records.
'Wild Thing' is the highlight of the disc, and the rest of the set shows the
primordial power of 'From Home' and 'I Just Sing', as well 'Jingle Jangle',
the first of Reg Presley's tuneful ballads. The album jumped to number six in
the British charts all of a sudden. Often labeled as proto-punk pioneers for

VARIOUS - THE OTHER SIDE OF FUTURISM (+FANZINE)
FIRST TIME ON VINYL ! Originally released on cassette in the spring of 1984
together with the 5th issue of Tribal Cabaret fanzine - included here in its
original format - this is an invaluable document focusing on the obscure side
of the 80's Italian post- punk scene. A composite picture drawn by a bunch of
different and often under recorded groups from various Italian regions and
cities. All together they contribute to defining a prominently dark yet vivid
soundscape based on different approaches and styles. All these aspects are
perfectly translated through the b&w art and graphics of the beautiful
Tribal Cabaret fanzine. If you want to dive deep into the fringes of the 80's
this is one of the places to start.

Bunny Lee was the first to actually use reggae in the title of a record with
'It's Reggae Time' Striker's propensity for creating hit records during this
period was unmatched and he was awarded the prestigious "title of
Jamaican Producer Of The Year in 1969, 1970, 1971 & 1972" the years

"Winter of Discontent" has been compiled by Saint Etienne's Bob
Stanley and Pete Wiggs, the latest in their highly acclaimed series of albums
that includes "The Daisy Age", "Fell From The Sun" and
"English Weather" ('really compelling and immersive: it's a
pleasure to lose yourself in it' - Alexis Petridis, the Guardian). The era's
bigger DIY names (Scritti Politti, TV Personalities, the Fall) and the
lesser-known (Exhibit A, Digital Dinosaurs, Frankie's Crew) are side by side
on "Winter Of Discontent". Mark Perry's Sniffin' Glue command -

VATICAN COMMANDOS - PONT ME TO THE END (+ BONUS TRACKS)
Formed in the wealthy coastal town of Darien Connecticut in the early 1980,
hardcore punk band Vatican Commandos released their debut EP, 'Hit Squad For
God', in 1983, followed swiftly by the 'Just A Frisbee EP'. Recorded in the
summer of 1984, shortly before their ultimate demise, the blistering EP
'Point Me To The End' captures the band at their most competent, bolstered by
high production values, with a one-off poem by beat-punk poet Earl broadening
the boundaries< this edition is made complete by the inclusion of crucial
bonus tracks 'Your World Is Flat' and 'Moralit'y,- from the ultra-rare
compilation 'Make It Work'.

VELVET NIGHT - VELVET NIGHT
Recorded in 1969, these White Plains NY kids created a horror show of late
psych, which they fully admitted to on 'Freak Show', a slow bluesy creeper
with spirally spiderweb organ and the fantastic and sexy sorceress vocals of
Lynn Boccumini. Recorded in New York-s Record Plant under the guidance of
cult producers Jimmy Curtiss and Steve Kanyon (best-known for their
involvement with popsike favourites The Hobbits and The New Hobbits), this Italian-American
psych rarity originally appeared in 1970 and has barely been heard since. A
mixture of covers of songs by Cream, Donovan, The Band and Tim Hardin and
eerie originals such as the hard acid-rock title track.

Souls' Fire House Rock was released by Greensleeves in 1981 to enduring
