Fungus Cerebri (Selected Tracks From Cassettes 1981-1989) is a double LP in
gatefold sleeve which includes a selection of tracks by Esplendor Geométrico
originally released on cassette, recorded between 1981-1989. They have been
remastered from the original tapes for this edition. The 16 tracks are taken
from "Sinn & Form" cassette compilation (Daterverarbeitung
1982), "En directo Madrid y Tolosa" (EGK 1987, cassette),
"Esplendor Geométrico en Roma" (EGK 1986, cassette), "Madrid
Mayo 89" (Línea Alternativa 1990, cassette), and "Diez años de
Esplendor" (Línea Alternativa 1991, double cassette). The 80s are a
period particularly appreciated by the followers of this cult band, pioneers
of the more rhythmic strain of industrial music. Minimalism, raw and harsh
analogue electronica, distortion, Arabic sounds, shortwave radio
recordings... are typical elements of their style during this first period of
Esplendor Geométrico, when they achieved a sound ahead of its time which is
still imitated nowadays. Esplendor Geométrico were always very present within
the 80s international scene of underground cassette labels. This double LP is
the first one of a series dedicated to this movement in Spain, still
very unknown despite its activity at the time, with dozens of labels
operating from different cities. Artwork by Juan Carlos Sastre, founding
member of Esplendor Geométrico. Track selection by Andrés Noarbe, the band's

First ever reissue of The Unwanted-s second and final single on Raw Records.
Originally released in late 1977. Formed in March 1977 in London they played under their original
name, SMAK, for the first two months, including the recording of the Live at
the Roxy LP, before settling on the name of The Unwanted and playing at many
of London-s Punk hotspots, The Man In The Moon, Marquee Club, the Roxy and the
Vortex. Although a highly entertaining live act, consistent line up changes
resulted in a stop/start career. Members came and went including bassist Dave
Postman from Flowers Of Romance, drummer Robbie from Peroxide Romance and
those who went on to greater things, Robin Wills *later to the Barracudas(
and Vince Ely *to the Psychedelic Furs(. Their debut single -Withdrawal- *on
Raw records( was a superb slice of ramalamadolequeue, but the album they
craved, and deserved, would never happen.The rest of the year was spent
sporadically touring, before a second single, and a complete image overhaul,
occurred at the start of 1978. -Secret Police- *again on Raw( was a loping
sub/reggae single and most fans felt short changed after their original full
on punk attack. The band continued on for a few months more supporting their
long time friends Siouxsie and the Banshees and X/Ray Spex whenever the
opportunity arose. However in May, Ollie-s past caught up with him as he was
given a six month prison sentence for stealing a union jack flag from a flag
pole in Bromley the previous June. The Unwanted were no more. OLLIE WISDOM /

DNA had a massive effect on alternative & indie rock around the world,
despite the trio never releasing a full/length studio album during their four
year tenure *1978/82(. Various groups citing them as an influence have
included Sonic Youth, Boredoms, Big Black and Blonde Redhead *the latter
taking their name from DNA's most/famous song(. While the band's explosive
live performances captivated audiences, extant recordings capture DNA's dynamic
sound and savage economy in songwriting. Originally released in 1981, A Taste Of DNA
remains a primary source for No Wave archaeologists. Singer&guitarist
Arto Lindsay and drummer Ikue Mori are joined by bassist and Pere Ubu
founding/member Tim Wright. Across the EP's six anti/epic tracks, the band
charges forward with jagged guitars and dislocated grooves, while Lindsay's
guttural screams create a thoroughly personal semantics. As Marc Masters
writes in the liner notes, "A Taste Of DNA has a kind of sum/of/parts
insanity, wherein every musical element sounds conventionally off, like
puzzle pieces purposefully jammed together at the wrong ends." This
first/time vinyl reissue is recommended for fans of The Contortions' Buy and
Red Crayola's The Parable Of Arable Land.

Of Sudanese heritage, the bassist Ahmed Abdul/Malik *1927/1993( was born
Jonathan Timms in Brooklyn. After working
with Art Blakey and Thelonious Monk, among others, Abdul/Malik studied music
of other cultures. He was among the first to incorporate Middle Eastern and
Indian influences into Jazz. A mindblowing mix of jazz and Middle Eastern
influences- and a rare 0s treasure from Thelonious Monk's former bassist!
Ahmed Abdul/Malik blends together percussion, bass, and oud with some soulful

ANIMA - MONTE ALTO
Limpe Fuchs is a legend in the experimental music scene. In the late -60s,
this percussionist drummed on self/made instruments, together with her
then/husband Paul Fuchs, in the Ensemble Anima, working on the periphery of
krautrock and free jazz. During that time, Limpe and Paul Fuchs worked with
the classical pianist star Friedrich Gulda, as well as with jazz luminaries like
Albert Mangelsdorff, and continually attracted the interest of their
audiences in new constellations. Limpe Fuchs-s solo performance with
@variable wood and stone rows, ringing bronze in the pendulum strings, and a
variety of skin and bronze drums@ is a rare occasion to witness one of the
early avant/gardists of the scene from the old Federal Republic of Germany.
She attempts, while playing live, to develop her musical ideas from the
@resonance of the location where the performance takes place@ and @to make
music in the flow of time, with simplicity and emotion.@ Her main concern is
to sensitize the process of hearing> @Every tone is a sensation. Listening
instead of shutting one-s ears. Establishing silence.@ The album Monte Alto
was released in 1977 on the band/owned label Alter Pfarrhof. It may be the
best Anima album ever, if for no other reason than the wonderful freely
improvised piano piece on the B/side. This is the first reissue of Monte
Alto, and it is presented in an elaborate silkscreen print, hand/numbered,
and limited to 500 copies, co/released by Play Loud! Productions and
Youdonthavetocallitmusic. This reissue appears in advance of Limpe Fuchs and
Play Loud! Productions- release of Limpe Fuchs-s archival back catalog, along
with some previously unreleased recordings and films, and new recordings, and
follows many previous Anima&Limpe Fuchs releases that have been made
without the permission of the artists.

The Baboon Show released their 7th Album with the title ,The World Is Bigger
Than You". Although their last release ,Damnation" was just 2 years
ago and the band had played several tours all over Germany
and Scandinavia, the ,The World Is Bigger
Than You" is their most ambitious and elaborate release yet and so you
can find some of the best songs in the history of the band on this record.
Maybe it was the spirit of the INGRID Studios in Stockholm, which exists
since the 60s and already recorded some albums with ABBA, maybe it was the
collaboration with Pelle Gunnerfeldt who produced 7 out of the 11 songs of
the album, maybe it was just the simple fact that the band worked harder and
longer than ever before on their songs. Besides their own unmistakable
pieces, it is the last song of the album ,Lost You In A Secon" which is
the most outstanding one. This song was written by Björn Dixgård *Mando Diao(
for the band and he insisted to sing it with Cecilia. An extraordinary duet
and the perfect ending for the album. No, The Baboon Show are no secret hint
any more and they developed an considerable amount of attention through their
outstanding good live appearances, no matter if it was as headliner or as a
guest of Donots, Pascow or Die Toten Hosen. The future will show to which
ways the band is heading, ,The World Is Bigger Than You" in any case is
a plain and pure punkrockalbum with great songwriting and the potential to a
classic piece.

BLAUE REITER - MY INNER THOUGHT
Blaue Reiter was a seminal post punk band from Alessandria, not so far from
Turin. They appeared in autumn 1982 on compilation "Gathered",
emerging from the anthology edited the "Rockerilla" staff, who at
the time was the leading magazine for anyone interested in the new rock
trends. The song of the band / where Marco Goggi focused on vocals and drums,
Flavio Gemma played bass and Paul Boveri thought the guitar / was "A
Correct Adulation Of Himself" and was extracted from a demo, laconically
entitled "Five Songs "tune in style and mood with some minimal
post/punk, incisive in rhythmic and wrapped in gloomy atmosphere quite
appreciated in the initial glimpse of the 80's. In April of 1983, the trio
recorded four other pieces, called "Demo Tape"*!(. Definitely.
essential. Gemma and Boveri, together with Enrico Ferraris *already with Dusty
Zebra, ensemble pre Blaue Reiter( and Roberto Molded, would shortly founded

Peanut Butter Conspiracy-s mainman Alan Lee Brackett, mostly written and
recorded in 1967, when the Conspiracy was at its peak. We hear Alan exploring
a number of different styles, encompassing fuzzed out garage, sunshine pop,
folk rock and full blown psychedelia. Included are home made DIY garage/psych
recordings *on which Alan plays all instruments( and pro/sounding studio
cuts. The LP includes an insert with detailed liner notes by Gray Newell
*Shindig!, Ugly Things(, track/by/track comments by Alan Lee Brackett and
rare photos.

BUILT TO SPELL - ANCIENT MELODIES OF THE
FUTURE
Formed in 1992 in
Boise, Idaho by guitarist and vocalist Doug Martsch, Built to Spill has since
evolved radically, shed members, linked eras, and all the while endured as
one of the most tuneful and rewarding acts of the lauded Northwest indie/rock
tradition. The group signed to Warner Brothers in 1995, but Martsch was wise
enough to retain control over production, and by 1999 he'd helmed the group
towards commercial and critical success with Keep it Like a Secret. It was a
touchstone album, and yet 2001's Ancient Melodies Of The Future bested that
career highlight with considerable grace and craft. Marsch's studio
proficiency is immediately evident in the alternately delicate and
devastating mix of mellotron, keyboard, and inventive guitar overdubs that
characterize Ancient Melodies Of The Future's sonic palette. Melodic
curlicues distinguish the minor hit "Strange," while woozy grooves
propel the mid/tempo ballad "Trimmed and Burning" through an
incendiary solo section. As the album title suggests, Ancient Melodies Of The
Future stands outside of history in a realm of its own.

BURROUGHS, WILLIAM S. - CURSE GO BACK
William Burroughs was in and out of London
from the mid/50s through to 1974 and for several years quite settled in a
flat near Piccadilly. During this latter time he developed and refined the
techniques he used for creating cut/ups on tape, working closely with Ian
Sommerville, who helped acquire the various tape recorders that Burroughs
used and abused in these experimental works. The work here is in 2 sections,
which in their original form lasted for over an hour and first appeared in
1998 under the name Electronic Revolution as a free CD with French magazine
Crash. This edition is edited down to 46 minutes and comprises the core of the
original recording. It employs the now familiar techniques of random drop/ins
and cut/ups of readings. The readings themselves also being cut/ups of words
on the page. The first section of the tape uses fur/ther processing by means
of a 2nd tape recorder. Recorded in Duke
Street c1968, the tape was then passed on to
Brion Gysin in Paris
where it remained in his archive until 1998. Closer to a work of sound poetry
than anything literary. Includes a 12"x12" insert with an essay by
Ben Harper and several previously unseen portrait photos of Burroughs taken
by Harriet Crowder..

John Cage and Christian Wolff-s self/titled 1962 LP was an early showcase of
both 20th century composer-s experimental chops, and is highly regarded as
some of their finest work. Cage-s piece, which spans the whole of side 1, was
originally composed in 1960, and like many of his pieces, would never be
performed the same way twice. It involves the overlaying of transparencies to
create the @score@, while performers manipulate phonographic cartridges in a
variety of ways to create amplified sound. To add to the effect, this
particular performance is actually the superimposition of four performances.
In all, it is a truly groundbreaking piece of 20th century classical. Wolff-s
side, while less extreme, is equally innovative, and a window into his
particular pointillist vision of music.

In 2015 The Cavemen swapped their native New
Zealand for the grimy streets of London. And 2016 sees them rising from the
gutter with a brand new record on which these four miscreants have spurt out
13 syphilitic tracks of rock'n'roll apathy. The Cavemen touch on everything
from lost love, murderous desires and their burning disdain for sophisticated
artistic expression. Features plenty of greasy riffs, uncouth howl/ing, and
road/rash/raw garage punk. Think a dose of Dead Moon, with a little of the
Cramps and the Stooges, and then throw on a whole heap of vintage trash
punk's debauchery. That's essentially The Cavemen. It's sex, drugs, and rock
'n' roll conveyed via lo/fi, psychotic '77 era punk rock. Both nihilistic and
hedonistic at the same time, this is a rec/ord to shake the cobwebs out of
your ears. It isn't sophisticated or remotely complex. It's one of those
wonderful loose/nut albums that reminds you that life is short, and when it's
not being nasty as hell it's simply dull as ditch water. So you might as well
crank that volume knob to eleven, snigger at intentionally juvenile lyrics
and get busy making your own filthy fun, before you die in some tediously
mundane fashion

Letchworth, Hertfordshire, Chron Gen released their classic uppets of War- EP
in 1981 and immediately reached number 4 in the indie chart, which gained them the

with Discharge, Anti Pasti, Anti Nowhere League, and the Exploited. After a
second single on the Step Forwards label, they moved to the legendary SECRET
label to release one of the best hidden treasures of the whole UK82 movement,

2001-s Getaway maybe best illustrates whatever mercurial, inexplicable
musical power animates The Clean. After the band-s initial rush of activity
between 1978 and 1982, the trio lay dormant until the end of the -80s, when a
string of reunion shows inspired the Kilgours and Scott to start recording
again. After three well/received albums in the first half of the
nineties/1990-s Vehicle, 1994-s Modern Rock, and 1996-s Unknown Country/The
Clean disappeared again until the end of the decade, when another tour
inspired another record. Speed and spontaneity defined Getaway. Robert says,
@I remember writing -Silence or Something Else- while the others went for a
long walk. It was done by the time they got back. I probably would have gone
for a straighter version, but I still like it.@ David remembers, @Hamish
wrote the instrumental ala- in about five minutes in a motel outside of
Turangi.@ At one point in the process, Yo La Tengo-s Ira Kaplan and Georgia
Hubley were visiting from America, and they ended up on the record too. A
live version of the pulsing, soaring @Stars@/along with a couple of other
Getaway songs and Clean classics like @Fish,@ @Side On,@ @Quickstep,@ and
@Point That Thing Somewhere Else@/appear on the rare 2003 album Syd-s Pink
Wiring System. That record is included with the Getaway reissue, along with
the more experimental, pianodriven EP Slush Fund, from the same era. These
bonus tracks reinforce the idea of the Getaway/era Clean as especially

Credit for this album is partially due to Miles Davis, who had somewhat
recently purchased Coltrane his first soprano saxophone, previously it had
been little used in jazz. This 1961 album also seems to fully mark Coltrane-s
transformation into modal jazz, another Davis influence, and his modal take
on the the classic standard, @My Favorite Things@, from The Sound Of Music
soundtrack, remains one of the more iconic jazz songs in history. Rounded out
by 3 more standards, performed in modal interpretations that completely
redefined the meaning of a @standards@ album, My Favorite Things, is one of the
many transcendent jazz albums the legendary John Coltrane is responsible for.

A highly important and unreleased soundtrack created in 1972 by musician
Delia Derbyshire and artist Elsa Stansfield. A mix of concrete ideas, sound
design, tape manipulation, natural environmental sounds and birdsong. The
recording was originally commissioned by director & producer & art
collector Anthony Roland for his 1972 film about the slides of radical stills
photographer Pamela Bone. The film is rarely seen. The soundtrack has never
been released until now. This is the longest known work by Delia Derbyshire -
either alone or in association with anyone else and has been licensed by
Trunk Records exclusively worldwide from the Anthony Roland archive &

album( of German band Die Regierung-s 1984 debut album Supermüll, which
Michael Ruff *Spex magazine( called @the best German record of the 80s.@ In
his liner notes for the Sturm und Twang! compilation *Big Cat, 1995(,
Christoph Gurk writes, @Led by an acidhead, who is already in his thirties,
the singer&songwriter band has lived through an erratic career.
Originally founded as a home/recording outfit, Die Regierung *The Government(
released a seminal debut album *Supermüll&Super Trash&1984( in the
aftermath of German New Wave *NDW(.@ With Supermüll, Die Regierung
anticipated the sound that, years later, became known as the Hamburger
Schule, and set the tone for German independent music in the early -90s. Die
Regierung had a huge influence on Germany-s most famous independent Hamburger
Schule band, Tocotronic, but they never hit it big. Now this seminal and very

FALL, THE - HEX ENDUCTION HOUR
Hex Enduction Hour was originally conceptualized as the death knell for The
Fall. Beleaguered by career uncertainty and guided by vague premonitions of
collapse, Mark E. Smith declared that one full hour was needed to thoroughly
and perhaps finally state his case with The Fall. This framework resulted in
a true classic of the post/punk era and an album that gave The Fall their
first taste of album chart success, thankfully removing surrender from the
equation. Recorded in haste in both Iceland
and England
in late 1981, the performances on Hex Enduction Hour are among the band's
most urgent and distinctive. The album begins with the severe provocation of
"The Classical" and the terse punk of "Jawbone And The
Air/Rifle," but it's "Hip Priest" that stands out as Smith's
calling/card theme, a song that would become inextricable from his character *or
perception thereof( in the years that followed. The elongated "And This
Day" fittingly positions the band as spell/casters, closing the hour by
filling every conceivable bit of space with wild, primitive percussion and
whimsical electric piano. Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that
Hex Enduction Hour has been available on vinyl domestically since its initial

FALL, THE - ROOM TO LIVE
On Room To Live, The Fall take the hurried, all/or/nothing approach of their
preceding Kamera Records releases to extreme ends. Forged via Mark E. Smith's
continual disassembling of players and focus on previously unrehearsed
material, the album collects The Fall's most experimental and improvisational
recordings. As proclaimed on the album cover, "Undilutable Slang
Truth!" would be revealed throughout Room To Live. With the album's
comparatively lo/fi production and always/teetering performances, the title
track comes closest to a stab at pop *by The Fall's standards(, built on
fantastically bent saloon swaying under one of Smith's by/now characteristic
dressing/downs of square life. "Detective Instinct" is an
unshakeable creeper, as languid and ominous as the band would get during the
Marc Riley years. "Marquis Cha Cha" is a post/punk rhumba,
beginning with fury and then easing into something only The Fall could
conjure. Superior Viaduct's edition is the first time that Room To Live has

Limpe Fuchs is a legend in the experimental music scene. In the late -60s,
this percussionist drummed on self/made instruments, together with her
then/husband Paul Fuchs, in the Anima ensemble. During that time, Limpe and
Paul Fuchs collaborated with the Austrian pianist Friedrich Gulda as well as
jazz luminaries like Albert Mangelsdorff, and continually attracted the
interest of their audiences in new constellations. Limpe Fuchs on Gestrüpp,
which was produced and recorded between 2012 and 2014 by Andi Schmid and
Hans/Joachim Irmler at Faust Studio> @I am a composer and performer of
acoustic and visual events. In the studio I am lacking the visual element.
Therefore I like to work with multitracking. As a soloist I listen to my
field recordings and integrate them into my new compositions. I do love radio
plays and that is how I create a sort of audio theatre with the aid of my
very special instruments and noises.@ Limpe Fuchs-s solo performance with
@variable wood and stone rows, ringing bronze in the pendulum strings, and a
variety of skin and bronze drums@ is a rare occasion to witness one of the
early avant/gardists of the scene from the old Federal Republic of Germany.
She attempts, while playing live, to develop her musical ideas from the
@resonance of the location where the performance takes place@ and to @make
music in the flow of time, with simplicity and emotion.@ Her main concern is

astonishing debut album World Music. Commune continues on with World Musics
acidic grooves, hypnotic incantations, and serpentine guitar lines but also

releases. Starting with the layered percussive groove, Eastern guitar

GOAT - WORLD MUSIC
Repress!!For those who are unaware, Goat are a collective of musicians who
hail from a small and very remote village called Korpolombolo in deepest
darkest Sweden.
Legend has it that for centuries, the inhabitants of the village of Korpolombolo
were dedicated to the worship and practices of Voodoo. This strange and
seemingly unlikely activity was apparently introduced into the area after a
travelling witch doctor and a handful of her disciples were led to
Korpolombolo by following a cipher hidden within their most sacred of ancient
scriptures. The reason it led them there is unknown, but their Voodoo
influence quickly took hold over the whole village and so they made it their
home - there, they were able to practice their craft unnoticed and unbothered
for several centuries. This was until their non-Christian ways were
discovered by the Church and they were burned out by the crusaders, the
survivors cursing the village over their shoulders as they fled. To this day,
the now picturesque village
of Korpolombolo is
still haunted by this Voodoo curse; the power of the curse can be felt
throughout the grooves of this Goat record. The nine track album follows the
underground success of the now sought after 7" Goatman, which is also
included in this selection. The band takes in many influences, from the Afro
groove that is central to the album, through to head nodding psych,
post-punk, turkish rock, kraut repetition and astral folk. The band are at
present preparing a ritualistic live performance that will be gracing stages
across Europe in October, including an appearance at the great Supersonic
Festival.

Turkish ancient melodies get an 80s electro/funk treatment on this obscure
album, originally released on the Diskotür label in 1985. Probably the work

During the first half of the 80-s, while the Cramps were gaining underground
popularity in the USA, and the STRAY CATS were hitting the charts on both
side of the Atlantic, a newborn wave of rockabilly revivalists came out of
the ashes of the UK early punk rock scene. Bands like the Meteors, Demented
Are Go, and Guana Batz, playing hopped up rockabilly with the speed and the
aggression of punk rock, invented the sound and the aesthetics of what soon
became known worldwide as psychobilly, an 80-s revision of the 50-s rock and
roll spirit filtered through the mohawk punk movement, 80-s horror movies
imagery, and a lot of booze. Formed in Feltham, MiddleSex, in 1983, Guana
Batz are among the pioneers of the genre, and their 1985 debut album Held
Down... At Last! is one the best episodes in the history of psychobilly.

the first authorized release of Hinten since its original 1971 release.
German krautrock band Guru Guru was formed in 1968 as The Guru Guru Groove by
Mani Neumeier *drums(, Uli Trepte *bass(, and Eddy Naegeli *guitar( *later

Jack Orion, Bert Jansch's third album, may have surprised some fans upon its
1966 release, as it features no original compositions by Jansch. While nearly
all of the eight tracks *four of which include guitarist John Renbourn( are
interpretations of traditional folk songs, Jansch's experimental approach breathes
new life into this repertoire through his exploratory use of open tunings and
passionate, gritty vocals. According to Melody Maker, "his
interpretations illuminate the songs from a completely new angle. As sung by
him, with brilliant accompaniments, the brutal world that created the old
ballads doesn't seem so very far off." The ten/minute title song
foreshadows the future through the past> with his sublime retelling of
this dark tale of desire and revenge, Jansch embarks on a musical trajectory
he would further develop with his group Pentangle. In "Black Water
Slide," a haunting ballad he first heard from Anne Briggs, Jansch plants
the seeds for future versions by Led Zeppelin and Sandy Denny. Jack Orion's
unique combination of medieval themes and progressive arrangements would pave
the way for the next wave of the British folk revival and beyond. This vinyl
release has been carefully remastered from the original master tapes and
features liner notes by Richie Unterberger.

black metal craziness, mixed with medieval melodies sung completely in Latin

North East of England
outfit Red Alert originally formed in their native Sunderland
in early 1979 with a line up of Steve Smith on vocals, Tony Van Frater on
guitar, Gaz Stuart on bass, Kid Stocker on guitar and Mitch filling the drum
stool. It was this version of Red Alert that recorded the legendary
"Third and Final" EP *sometimes know as "Border Guards"(,
which was released on their own label in the summer of 1980 with all 250
sleeves actually glued together by the band themselves! Leading Punk label No
Future Records picked up on the band *who by now had Nobby on drums and
slimmed to a four piece with the departure of Kid Stocker to Red London( and
their first release for the label was the legendary "In Britain" EP
which shot to the top of the then important Independent Chart. Incidentally
the two demos featured on this release, "S.P.G." and "I Tore
Your Picture Up", were actually recorded at the same sessions as
"In Britain" but, until now, had remained unreleased. A second
Indie Chart hit came via mid 82's "Take no prisoners" EP and they
became a leading live attraction following gigs with the likes of The

"City Invasion" 7" preceded the release of Red Alert's debut
album "We've got the power" which, in true Punk value for money
style, contained none of the bands singles releases and a different version
of "S.P.G." from that which had appeared on the legendary
"Carry on Oi!" LP. A top 5 Indie Album Chart entry, the LP was
followed by the six track 12" "There's a guitar burning"
thought this turned out to be the bands last release for No Future as the
label folded in early '84.

soundtrack on Steam. Composer Jonah Senzel on the soundtrack> @Pony island
is a game with two distinct faces> the cheerful outer facade, and the evil
lurking under the surface. Most of the soundtrack is based around this idea
of the @devil within@ that-s present throughout the game. The most fun part
of writing the soundtrack was composing really over the top cheerful cutesy
Tracks for the cheery sections and then turning around and getting as gritty
and evil sounding as possible for the devil sections. For the happy sections
I channeled my inner children-s TV composer using fun, light and bouncy
melodies played on old school 8bit synths as well as real instruments like
the ukulele. For the demonic sections I also took a lot of inspiration from
classic video game chiptune sounds, but I modified them to sound like they
were glitching or broken in some way. Compositionally I incorporated some
elements that connect back to the game-s main theme, like the use of
augmented fourths within chords Which were banned in earl classical music since
they were thought to be the ???????????????????????????????????????? evil-s
interval-. Overall it was really exciting to write for such a unique and
interesting game. I-d like to thank Daniel Mullins for creating the perfect
world for this crazy soundtrack to live in.@ A trippy and unique experience
that will make the player desperate and stunned at the same time. Pony Island
is probably most enjoyable when played without knowing what to expect.
Without giving too much away, it can be said that the game works mostly on
the meta/level and it will take some time to figure out where the story is
heading. A marvelous game for long and sleepless nights that will leave you
pondering and amazed, while enjoying it-s varied music that perfectly fits
the constant ups and downs of cheerful and vicious moments. For more

McRae, each on various tracks. While the album undoubtedly swings, this
piano/less quartet definitely prefigures the trailblazing free/jazz work the
two leaders would be involved in for the remainder of the decade, and beyond.

When Spacemen 3-the seminal, drone/indulgent English psych duo comprised of
Peter Kember and Jason Pierce - split in 1991, Pierce shuffled off to acclaim
in Spiritualized. Meanwhile, Kember charted a less predictable course. As
Sonic Boom, he released Spectrum in 1990, then, after taking a liking to that
handle, released Soul Kill *Glide Divide( as Spectrum in 1992. Kemper
alternated between those monikers and Experimental Audio Research *E.A.R.(
throughout the 1990s, building a rich, probing catalog of synth and
electronic explorations of which 1997's Forever Alien is an undeniable
highpoint. With theremin, vocoder, and an array of modular analog
synthesizers *depicted lovingly in the cover art( Kemper, along with Alf
Hardy and Pete Bassman, fused cosmische abstraction and the pulsation of
minimalist composition to more traditional psych elements epitomized by early
Pink Floyd. Landing between the unfettered experiments of E.A.R. and Spacemen
3's songcraft *"How Does it Feel_" is scarily reimagined(, Kemper
crafts unnerving atmosphere on the title track and an enduring catalog high
point on the consummate opener, "Feels Like I'm Slipping Away."
Forever Alien leaves no doubts about the reasons for Kemper's sought/after
production today *he played a vital role for Animal Collective and sculpted
Panda Bear's most recent album(-nor the essential status of his post Spacemen
3 output.

Ende Vom Lied is a genre/spanning collection of punk, post/punk and
avant/garde bands from the former East Germany, chronicling the work of free
spirits pitted against government restraints and implied genre limitations.
The underground scene in the German Democratic Republic was a hydra, a noisy
mix of musicians, poets, painters, photographers, filmmakers, punks and
freaks. In the immediate aftermath of the primal scream that was punk, music
often bred with poetry or painting in short/lived liaisons or enduring
collaborations to produce a new generation of bastard genres. With the lines
blurring between forms, a search for new shapes began. In the German
Democratic Republic, this search constituted a tightrope walk, a dance for
expression between subculture and a dictatorship. In German, Ende Vom Lied
literally translates to @The end of the song@, but is more commonly
understood as a saying roughly meaning @The upshot@, @The end of the story@
