Released in 1973, Stillpoint remains one of the most innovative and enduring progressive albums of the period. The two hit singles released from the album: "Goodbye Lollipop" (the first ever release on the maverick Mushroom label) and "12lb toothbrush" (the monster crowd favourite, with its distinctive "na na na nanana na" vocal hook) were balanced by the longer, psychedelic blues of album tracks like "Salmon Song" and "Listen To The Morning Sunshine". Recorded in just six days, Stillpoint highlights Madder Lakes distinctive sound: the combination of fettes unique (often effects laden) vocals, masons understand blues-tinged guitar playing, the sparse yet effective use of McKinnons keyboards and the agile drive of the rhythm section. Influenced equally by the ragged avant-folk sounds of the Holy Modal Rounders and the Fugs, the screech of DNA and Mars, and the traditional Americana of Bob Wills and Hoagy Carmichael, TSIN instantly set themselves apart from the pack. Their music was an indefinable mixture of the old and new, the impenetrable and the accessible and the weird and wonderful. Some folks compared 'em to the Red Krayola or Pere Ubu, some to SST outfits such as the Meat Puppets and Slovenly, and some people even hail them as the world's finest No Wave jug band. The point is this: between the years 1984 and 1988 they released three magnificent albums on their own label, Lost (the last two being in co-operation with the Twin/Tone label), which have been out of print for a dog's age and never seen the light of day on compact disk. Feel presents is proud to release Happy Town Sounds (singles, live & rare), the debut CD release and first ever long player for seminal Sydney group Sekret Sekret. Serving as the missing link between electronic pioneers SPK and mainstream chart toppers The Cruel Sea (guitarist/songwriter Danny Rumour served time in both while SS frontman David Virgin was the co-writer on the first three impossibly rare SPK singles), Sekret Sekret confused, bemused and delighted Sydney audiences from their birth late in 1979 until their untimely demise some five years later. Along the way SS, produced enough material to fill three quality albums yet, typical of the times, only managed to release four independent singles including the noted underground classic; New King Jack. But all that has changed now, via the research and diligence of feel presents archivist Tim Pittman and founding Sekret Sekret member Des Devlin. Between them, the pair have unearthed some 32 tracks - 23 of which have never before been released in any format. These include: all four singles (and their b-sides); Charity, New King Jack, Girl With a White Stick, Just To Love You. Two JJJ radio sessions recorded at Sydney's infamous Rock Garden (1980) and The Trade Union Club (1983). Two further desk recordings - again from 1980 and 1983. The lone remaining track from a 1981 demo session. Additionally, and as with all feel presents archival releases, this 2cd collection comes with a 28 page booklet chronicling the rise of the band from the ashes of Sydney's infamous punk pit, The Grand Hotel, and such legendary outfits as Johnny Dole and the Scabs, The Broken Toys, Blackrunner and SPK, right through until their eventual collapse and subsequent rebirth (via three of the original five members) under the altogether more successful banner of the Cruel Sea. Amanaz was formed in 1973. 3 songs are in the native language Bemba, and 9 songs in English, recorded in Kitwe, the 3rd biggest city in Zambia up North. Musically is goes in the same direction as BLO, THE WITCH and QUESTION MARK, but this album is way cooler and stoned with amazing fuzz guitar all over which sounds like an African version of early CREAM. The cover make it look very traditional but after a few spins you are aware that this one is very special. It's soo cool, so tight produced and easily to compare with UK underground albums with a touch of African beats.
