| | "Punk" was one of the first photobooks that came out about the punk movement not just in Spain but in Europe. Almost half a century later the book is now available again. This updated edition includes unpublished photos from Costa's own archives, preserved by his wife and children after his passing on 30 October 2008, and also short texts and comments by members of Gen X, Eater, The Models... With only six singles released between 1965 and 1966, and from an apparently remote place such as Lima, Peru, Los Saicos created a raw, wild and visceral sound, the Southern Hemisphere equivalent of the garage rock that was coming out of the US North West at the same time. Theirs is the same DNA shared by The Sonics, Rocket From The Tombs, The Cramps and Black Lips. This release compiles all their recordings and tells their amazing story. | | |
NUEVAS ENTRADAS EN DISTRIBUCIÓN | | Four tracks from the band from Carbondale, Illinois, which has now been around for over two decades. Pop punk presented with gusto, combining good melodies and anthemic sing-alongs. The Copyrights have long since freed themselves from half-baked comparisons and cultivated their very own trademark sound, which is definitely not based on stagnation. As good and relevant as ever! | | | | | Back in stock!! Explosión, leading Spanish 60s garage/punk act since the mid-nineties, is back with a surprise. A remake of one of the most remarkable early tracks of the band, "Baby please go" (Veste'n si us plau), and a cover of James Brown "I'll go grazy" (Perdo l'esma) the way Catalan 60s band ogrup adapted in the mid 60s, and both tracks sung in perfect Catalan language - well, Barcelona's accent, that's fine. limited to 500 numbered copies. | | | | | The sparsely-recorded Exits must be considered one of the greatest Los Angeles 60s soul vocal groups. Jimmy Conwell was their driving force, but all four singers contributed. Jimmy and fellow Exit Godoy Colbert, along with label owner Hank Graham co-writing both of these songs. Graham licensed 'Another Sundown In Watts' to Kapp records but with the issue being incredibly scarce compared to the demo, it may not have had a proper release. The song is hugely popular among both discerning northern soul fans and harmony lovers and now fetches over £1,000. Coming up fast on the rails is the catchy dancer 'I Don't Want To Hear It', issued on Cleveland's Gemini label two years previously. It's another mid-tempo harmony jam, ideal for today's ageing dancers. | | | | | 'The Pain Gets A Little Deeper' was soul music's equivalent of Frankie Lymon's 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love' - young, vulnerable, heart-felt vocals that belied the singer's years. It entered the charts in January 1966 and catapulted the 14 year-old Darrow Fletcher to fame in the R&B world, particularly in his home city of Chicago. Elton John has cited the recording as one of the best soul records he has ever heard. The 'My Judgement Day' flip demonstrated that there was depth to Darrow's talent and a fruitful career followed. | | | | 0029667039178 SOUL HARMONY | Barbara Long's exquisite vocals on 'Take It From Me' are backed by a heavenly backing group that was no doubt arranged and maybe featured Raynoma "Miss Ray" Gordy, Berry's second wife and co-founder of Motown. This song was written by Eddie Singleton, Ray's new partner who set up Shrine Records with her in Washington DC. The record came out on their sister label Jet Set, but sold poorly and is very sought after now. Singleton wrote another beautiful harmony ballad, 'Poor Loser' for his main group the Cautions - issued on Shrine in 1966. It was their second single and got lost in the company's implosion with most copies incinerated in record distributor Waxie Maxie's fire. Its Northern soul flip makes it a £2,000 record on original. | | | | | The Phantom Surfers makes the final point to the "Colección Instromundial" with this EP. Four classic tracks translate into spanish to called it "Cantan es español"... you can play it and discover how they can sing_ or not!. "La Llorona" is a classic mexican song, "Museo Desconocido Stomp", "Barbacoa con amigos" and "Playa Raton" complete this record that is a "must have" record for your parties. | | | | 5056321697974 LAVIDAESUNMUS | Pyrex's post-apocalyptic punk slithers out of the melting pot that is New York City, nodding to influences ranging from early thrash to Crass Records post-punk and the city's own storied hardcore lineage. Rooted in the classic acid-damaged sound of Chrome, Pyrex takes notes from disparate influences like Poison Idea, Needles and Crazy Spirit, delivering a rolling boil of punk nihilism with hints of psychedelia simmering beneath. Their latest, Slugman, is four tracks of irate punk fury packed into a taut eight minutes_all toxic sludge and raw nerve spilling in abundance. It's nasty, unhinged and volatile but won't leave your turntable for a long while. Approach with caution | | | | | New instro EP for the "Colección Instromundial" thing, now from Argentina The TORMENTOS with their surf-ism classic to celebrate their 25 years in the music scene they present 4 Brand new tracks. Great band to enjoy with the classics like Dick Dale, Ventures, Phantom Surfers among others. | | |
| 4059251706694 SUNNY BASTARDS | Double A-Side release by two of Englands best Streetpunk/Oi! Bands with two new songs on a ltd vinyl 10inch! GIMP FIST celebrating their 20years anniverary with brandnew track "History Repeats"."HISTORY REPEATS" is something very special in every way: The song surprises with a sound that is very atypical for Gimp Fist, with excursions into folk punk, and for good reason: It is released exactly 20 years after their first pub concert back on June 6, 2005, in Bishop Auckland, and it has captured just that atmosphere musically. Instead of merely celebrating themselves as is usual with anniversary songs, the lyrics convey a clear message to society and politics for mutual respect and peace, as the signs unfortunately point to 'History Repeats' with all the current conflicts worldwide. UK's Streetpunkers RIOT CITY RADIO shouting out loud to all football and soccer fans with their new song "We're still singing" A terrace themed anthem calling out all the 'fair weather' supporters who turn their back on their sports team when times get hard. Catchy Singalongs paired with melodic hooklines and straight forward guitars, for good reasons RIOT CITY RADIO are handled as on of UK's actual best Streetpunk bands! Classic black vinyl, here's the Gimp Fist cover art displayed. | | | | | Thing is, NOFX will be going to hell for this EP. 6 new tunes, 2 of which will be on their new record Wolves In Wolves' Clothing. The EP was originally released as a teaser for NOFX's '06 album Wolves in Wolves' Clothing and it came from the same sessions as that album and included two of the same songs ("Seeing Double at the Triple Rock" and "The Marxist Brothers"), as well as a cover of the 1984 song "Golden Boys" by Germs offshoot Vagina Dentata. From the drunk Jesus on the album cover to the lyrics, this EP continued the political vibe that NOFX had on previous album The War on Errorism, taking shots at right-wingers, Christian fundamentalists, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, the NRA, Mel Gibson, and more. (And on the Clash-like reggae/punk of "The Marxist Brothers," Fat Mike poked fun at Propagandhi, who had poked fun at him on a song the year prior.) If you've never heard Never Trust A Hippy, it _ like most NOFX records _ is classic NOFX. Black Vinyl 10 | | |
| | From Montreal (Canada).Initially influenced by the skinhead scenes of France and Italy, their new LP "Renaissance" borrows from sounds outside the subculture, orchestrating harmonies to unite the punks, skins and moshers. The comparison to L'INFANTERIE SAUVAGE is undeniable (they even cover "Les poings levés mais les poings liés"!) with odd song structures switching from slow melodies to fast punchy pogo beats. The Italian influence also still remains, tapping into bands showcased on the "QUELLI CHE URLANO ANCHORA_" compilation (BASTA, NABAT, ROUGH, etc_). However on this LP, there is a subtle influence of early American hardcore bands, adding more stomping rhythms and upping the pace of the songs. | | | | 7640148983631 VOODOO RHYTHM | "Irritating Post Punk New Wave Kraut Disco Trash Duo from Switzerland in Glitter Tights and Spandex Wigs with obscure and high potential Dancing Beats and and songs that stick in your brain like chewing gum". It's their fith' full lenght amd second for VVR! THE GREAT ART OF REDUCTION: BLIND BUTCHER is an abstract m artists/musicians duo from Lucerne, Switzerland. They wear glittery leggings and hide their faces behind a fluorescent spandex curtain. Their aesthetic and clothing are designed by Corinne Odermatt, but above all, they impress with their music, which, when experienced live, never ceases to amaze and leaves you perplexed. Like two obscure creatures from another galaxy, they drive their disco beats through the room or, as here, onto the groove of a vinyl record. This second production for Voodoo Rhythm was recorded at the renowned Swamp Land Studio in Toulouse, France, with Lo Spider (Destination Lonely and mastered in Detroit by Bill Skibbe at Third Man Mastering. | | | < |
