Is there any good way to deploy munki over a load of clients, all initially having the same manifest? Customer is not using any sort of MDM, with munki being their only form of automation (or that's currently the plan!)
Thanks

Do you have access to Apple Remote Desktop (ARD)? You need some way of pushing out to all these clients, even if it's not a traditional MDM.

You can use something like Packages:

Make a package that distributes Munki to a temporary location (e.g., /tmp) and then runs a script that writes the appropriate values to /Library/Preferences/ManagedInstalls and then installs Munki.

Just keep in mind that Munki will require a reboot right after installation, so if these are laptops (or desktops that are in use during business hours), it may disrupt users if you do it remotely in an automated way.

We have a self-service webportal set up with a customized munki installer (contains a script that sets the clientidentifier) that people can download and install.
They need to be admins for that though.

You could use the site_default manifest initially and then move from there.

I am a newbie when it comes to Mac Administration but its something I really would like to excel at. I have a new Munki environment setup with a few machines but the systems were all setup installing Munki Tools then a separate script that creates the ManagedInstalls.plist with repo and client identifier set.

I do have a working Deploy Studio workflow that does all the setup needed during the imaging process but I can't run Deploy Studio on my existing MAC's.

I  want to setup my remaining 13 or so MAC's that are deployed to our dev engineers ( yes I am in a small shop) but want to do it with a custom package. I am trying to figure that app Packages that Mr Alan Siu suggested but having no luck.

Is there another method to create this custom installer that installs Munki Tools and runs the script all in one feel swoop? I know we are all busy but any help or guidance would be certainly appreciated!

Thank you!

-Mike
