Is there a way to roll out applications to clients completely automatically according to a schedule?

Not sure what exactly you mean by “according to a schedule”.

You as the admin define your expected “state” as far as what software should be present (and perhaps what software should not be present). The Munki client attempts to get the actual local state to match your defined state every time it runs (approximately once an hour).

Munki can definitely install software silently in the background (is that what you mean by “automatically”?)
