Greg, it looks like bad news for us with the Adobe CS5 updates. I
downloaded the Adobe Dreamweaver update and it seems that they have
changed the format for the updates yet again. There is an
AdobePatchInstaller.app that runs a binary, which installs the file
from a folder names payload sitting in the .dmg file.

To give you an idea of the structure:

AdobeDreamweaver-11.0-All-Update.dmg
AdobePatchInstaller.app
Binary that presumably runs stuff from the payloads folder.
payloads
(Various adobe-specific installer items in here)

It almost seems like they are intentionally sabotaging any effort at
installing these updates using a management system. I cannot believe
they are doing this crap.

I was reading the OOBE blog and found this slightly useful info:

sudo [Path to AdobePatchInstaller.app]/Contents/MacOS/
AdobePatchInstaller --mode=silent

That kicks off the installer "silently" but it does not give any
feedback on the status. I suppose I could make a custom package that
has everything in the update .dmg and then a postflight that runs this
command. Any ideas?

That sounds like it should be straightforward to add to munkilib/adobeutils.py. Do you have to deploy today? I might be able to have something for you to test in a day or two.

I won't need it today, no.  I'll absolutely need it if any security flaws come up, but until then I can wait on the non-essentials updates.  I had noticed that Flash Pro 11.0.1 was out and went to get it ready for munki and noticed what format the updates were in.

Thanks,

Nate

I just used munki to successfully install the Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.2 update.

Code in svn on code.google.com/p/munki.  --  Revision 551.  At a minimum pull munkilib/installer.py and munkilib/adobeutils.py.
