hello,

We have a situation of no VPP account, and a need to update iWork applications (especially Numbers). Anyone tried the method of getting the pkgs using Max Schlapfer‘s AppStoreExtract and deploy them as updated apps to computers that already have iWork? Is this a valid method?

Best regards

The only method I recommend is described here: https://github.com/munki/munki/wiki/App-Store-Apps

The method you describe might also work; why don’t you try it? Certainly other people are doing something similar. The only way to know for sure if you will see issues in your environment is to test it in your environment.

Thank you,
The environment is on client's premises. They are fighting to get the VPP done since summer, and now they are facing an issue with the new Numbers updated format. The Max Schlapfer‘s AppStoreExtract claims that the pkgs got are not tight to Apple ID.
Main concern is that: will those pkgs of the _updated_ apps when set as managed updates OR self-service apps in Munki, will update the iWork apps in the machines? Will test tomorrow.

Best regards

They will _replace_ the iWork apps with new versions that don’t have _MASReceipts.
The ramifications of that are what you need to understand and test.

No issue with that since no machine is under vpp now. It may produce an issue later, I guess to show the apps as not installed in the AppStore app or similar.

Will both approaches (updates for and self service) update the apps? They are pushing me to add as self service.
I will do a test tomorrow...

Best regards

A new version of an app is _not_ an “update_for” an older version of the app; it’s just a new version.

So add them as managed installs or self service.

Or managed_updates.
