Statement of the Problem:
The 1st Gulf War ended in 1991, after the weapons of mass destruction were destroyed in Iraq. However, in the early 2000s, the United States and the United Kingdom claimed that Iraq still possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and these weapons posed a threat to their security and that of their coalition/regional allies .The UN then sent their team to inspect and verify the possession of WMD but no such devices were obtained. But Iraq still did not allow the inspection team to enter some places saying that they were "off limits”. Therefore the US was not satisfied. They wanted to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, to end Iraqi president, Saddam Hussein's, support for terrorism, and to free the Iraqi people. They then passed Resolution 1441 that gave Iraq "a final opportunity to comply with its disarmament obligations". Will Iraq oblige by the resolution or will the world see one of the bloodiest and costliest wars of all times? Only time will tell. But it is now in the hands of the Security Council to come up with a peaceful solution between the two warring countries.
