Password Protect Excel Read Only

I would like to password protect my document, but have the option to read only if you do not have the password. If I go to 'Info' and set to password protect and read only, it still makes users enter the password then opt-in to read only. I'm using Office 365 Excel. Other excel sheets in my organization can do this but I can't seem to do it on mine. Maybe their documents used another version of excel when they were created...

How would I make a vba program which enables readonly function but also needs a password to open the document up when launched and im not refering to the password I would need to edit the document if in a read only state.

I want to make one of the worksheets in an Excel 2010 workbook read-only, but I don't want to use a password. I just want to make it so that I can't accidentally edit the sheet, and I don't want to have to deal with a password--not even a blank one. If it's to prevent yourself from accidentally editing the sheet, one solution is to draw giant rectangle that covers all your data and set it's transparency to 100%. This will allow you to see everything but prevent you from clicking on any of the cells. However, it would still be possible to use the keyboard to navigate around and edit the cells under the shapes. This idea serves mostly as a reminder since it's easy to simply delete the shape and use the sheet normally. It's not very robust and it's annoying to apply but quick to remove.

Can it be moved to a sub folder of the existing folder? If so you could put it into a subfolder then share out that subfolder so only the other employee can view the share then set the permissions on the folder/file to read only of that user.

User A is the owner of the document and not allowed to set a password to the document. It should be read only. I am worried that the document will not be able to cache anything in an office document when the document is read-only.

OK then what you would probably need to do is use deny permissions for second user on the contents root folder and read only of the root folder itself then remove inherited permissions on the specific file then grant read only permissions on that file for second user and full permissions for first user. You should then be able to create a shortcut to the file. Granted this is a very dirty way and not recommended way of doing things as really it should be in a different directory so the root directory can have specific permissions for each user as using deny permissions can be a pain.

Turns out what I had to do was make a new sub-folder then give modify access to that folder. Then turn off inheritance on the document, then move it to the newly created folder and enable read-only.
