Applicationsfor the second FastStart to Radio Sales Success Minority Scholarship program from the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) and BMI are being accepted now through January 17, 2003. A total of 25 minority scholarships will be awarded for a full session of intense sales training at the RAB Radio Training Academy in Dallas, Texas during 2003.

Candidates may apply online at RAB.com or by calling RAB's Member Services at 800-232-3131 to request a faxed copy. Recipients will be announced at RAB2003, the Radio Sales Management & Leadership Conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans, which will be held January 30 through February 2.


The RAB Radio Training Academy provides on-site training and sales marketing skills that allow new salespeople to accelerate their early progress and build a foundation for long-term success in the radio industry. Classroom and interactive sessions last a full week, but the actual training experience continues long after with ongoing faculty-student contact, periodic appraisals, and additional opportunities for advanced training after graduation.


The Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) is the sales and marketing arm of the radio industry with more than 5,000 member stations in the U.S. and over 900 additional members in networks, representative firms, sales and international organizations.

Virtual events, an idea that was born of pandemic closures, may be falling by the wayside as in-person makes its comeback. The RAB says only 13% of stations surveyed said they are planning virtual events this year.


The 47-page analysis, which covers the activity of more than 3,000 radio stations, was compiled by Borrell Associates and is sponsored by Marketron. It leverages Borrell's database of ad revenue and expenses for more than 11,000 local online operations in the U.S. and Canada, including 3,645 local radio stations. It also tapped into a survey of 1,107 local radio advertisers. Borrell also conducted an online survey of 256 radio managers representing approximately 2,900 stations in December and January.


The 47-page report is being made available to RAB members. The trade group is also hosting a webinar on Wednesday, Feb. 16 detailing more of its findings. RAB members and survey participants can register for free here.
