Hello all,
This is to share with you how citizen's were involved in getting the 'Rain water harvesting' projects sanctioned in Mumbai:
1. We met the Assistant Municipal Commissioner Gajanan Bellale ji
on 9 July 2019 with a suggestion to use Rainwater harvesting in
F/N ward to de-flood the areas prone to water-logging during
monsoons (original idea by Chunabhatti-resident Sunil Chheda ji).
Letter also submitted to MC, AMC and Storm Water Drainage Dept as
attached.
2. The following week, the AMC with his officers visits our Sion's Avanti society to see the Successful rainwater harvesting – Die Hard Indian. Managing committee member Nirav Shah is present to show the project.
3. Meeting in August 2019 of Hon'ble Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale
ji at Avanti society in the presence of M/S Sunil Chheda,
Gangjibhai Dedhia, Mahendra Oza, AV Shenoy and Ashok Datar, where
we formally proposed this Rainwater harvesting solution.
4. Put forth the proposal for solving the flooding problem in Mumbai on 8 June 2020 to Hon'ble Municipal Commissioner Iqbalsingh Chahal ji and Mumbai Congress Youth President Ganesh Yadav ji as per email below.
5. On the same day itself, Chahal ji forwards the email to AMC and SWD department (as below).
6. On 9 June 2020, Chahal ji forwards the email to BMC Infrastructure (Projects) department (as below).
7. This is followed by an immediate site survey and subsequent implementation at flooding zones at King's Circle and Hindmata.
I would like to thank all the known (and not known) stake-holders for their positivity towards our suggestion. I would like to publicly and profusely thank Chahal ji for the speedy implementation.
Its success remains to be seen during the coming monsoon season, but this may be the best time for citizens and activists to approach the super-proactive MC with suggestions to improve the quality of life in our Mumbai.
Thanks and Regards,
Gaurang Damani

Hon'ble Municipal Commissioner

Dear Sir,
I was given to understand by Shri Ganesh Yadav ji that you are working on a solution for the water-logging problem at Gandhi market (near King's Circle station). We had submitted a proposal for the same about a year ago (as attached).
The solution involves creating big underground pits. These pits can be either built under the footpath or in a nearby RG/PG ground at Sundar Kamala Nagar. The rain water can easily percolate down into the ground. This will not only solve the water-logging problem during monsoons but also recharge the groundwater water table.
Kindly consider this solution and implement at Gandhi market if deemed appropriate. If successful, this solution can be implemented across Mumbai
Thanks and Regards,
Gaurang Damani
